What is next, will they give rankings to computers? Will the new grandmasters all be computers.
I don't like this. Chess is a human game. You can't play chess with a computer any more than a monkey. It is like sex. Sure, you can get porn off the web, but the human element is best.
Real chess is about looking across the table, sizing your opponent, psychology, not always logic. Can I bait this guy? No. What can I do. Do I want to play to beat him with the clock?
I know, they can program a computer to know every possible move, to know all past games. But what happens when the computer gets an updated OS or new CPU, does its ranking change? A person can't get a new brain, or more memory. And if you have a computer, it is only as good as the number of moves it knows in its database. A human can learn on the fly.
And what will this tell manufacturors? I am sure someone over at GM is looking at this and wondering how many more jobs they can cut and replace with computers. I hope people like talking to computers and not customer service reps. I feel bad for the people in India, they are about to get outsourced.
I take awe at people who can accomplish great things. I take awe when I watch the olympics and I see the worlds fastest people. I don't take awe when I see a hyundi on the highway at 70mph.
One more thing to consider. Would a machine ever have gone to Yugoslavija during a time of sanctions? Bobby Fisher did, and with it he sent a political statement.
And what are you going to do when Walmart is the one taking your house? Shoot 100K share holders? Or more likely, the rent-a-cop, or the CEO corporate flunky? As long as you're making a blood sacrifice, that will even the books? Are you willing to destroy your family's economic survival to prove a point?
You are missing a point. There are people out there who are smart. They won't take a gun and walk in a Walmart and shoot the cashier who is making $6 an hour. They won't even shoot the manager. They won't make any noise at all, they will not say a word.
People here are too smart for that. Look at the Unibomber, how many good years he had before his brother betrayed him. He got stupid, he tried to explain to people what was wrong with the world. If he would have kept quiet and just did his work, he would still be changing the world.
I think what will happen is a war of the classes. The rich are getting so fucking wealthy that the gap between the rich and the poor is so wide the poor will no longer be able to live. I'll give you one example, something everyone needs. Gas. If I work for $10 an hour, I have a set amount of money I can spend on gas and transportation each week. Now, if you are making $100 an hour, and decide to buy a big gas guzzler, and are willing to spend $4 a gallon on gas, that fucks me. You are using so much gas, driving up demand. My simple needs of getting to and from work will cost more. The gas I used to pay $1.33 for now costs 3 times as much.
I am starting to think we don't need a mimimum wage, we need a maximum limit. Maybe 2 times what the poorest person makes. It would be to societies benifit to make sure nobody is left behind. If the salary of the rich was tied into the sucess of the poor, maybe college tuitions would not cost $100,000 for a 4 year degree. Maybe everyone would have a chance at schooling.
This court deicsion is one more step to enslaving the poor. Now, not only are they screwed by low pay, but they can have the little bit they have, their small houses taken away if some rich guy wants to build a shopping mall.
I'd say toss up on whether more bush/republican judges would help here. Both democrats were in favor, but so were three republicans
Clinton is NOT a democrat. Clinton shares nothing in common with LBJ or Kennedy no matter how many times he invokes their name. Clinton is a peice of crap who lies and steals and cheats.
Clinton took away the saftey net that many people relied on for food. He took away welfare from people who can not work, are mentally ill, or are somehow fucked up. But Clinton expanded corporate welfare. It was under Clintons watch that Enron happened. The whole whitewater attitude was in place.
And while I am at it, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a rotten, dirty, skank! She never should have been confirmed by congress. If Ginsburg was a southpark character, she would be a crack whore.
We should do away with the Courts. Instead, every citizen should be given two things. #1- A copy of the constitution. #2- A gun. No courts needed. Life would be so simple. Want to avoid conflict, stay on your land. Want to start conflict, fuck with someone elses land. I almost wish every person had a gunbelt with gun like the old wild west flicks. It would be the great equilizer. No longer would the crack addict who wants to rob you have the upper hand because he has a gun and you don't. And at the same time, no longer would some evil corporation be able to take your land or screw you, because when 200 people with guns showed up outside his office, he would be fucked. I will repeat that, it will be more effective to have 200 people with guns than a march of 10,000 protestors.
In general the government is only supposed to do this stuff when the value to the community outweighs the harm to the individual.
This is easy when building a road. The people need a road, your house is in the way, government offers you fair value, and you move. Nobody is making money off the road.
But this is evil when we start talking about favoring people. There is a guy who wants to build a McDonalds. He offers you money for your property, but you say no. Next thing you know, the McDonalds Corp starts lobbying the city council, and the city votes to sell your land to McDonalds. Someone is getting rich, and it won't be the people working for minimum wage.
Here is the ultimate problem. What is to stop a Corporation from spending money helping people get elected who will do their bidding? The current city council does not want to force you off your land; fine, the Corp spends money getting someone elected who will force you off your land. But the reverse does not work. The city is filled with people to evict you, how do you raise the money to fight them. It is a tremendous amount of work and time.
I would not be opposed to more control on the internet. An easy way to stop problems is for the government to ban websites and troubled IP addresses from outside the USA. And it would be lawful because the only person who is having their rights violated is from outside the USA, not a citizen.
Those who live in the USA must conform to their community standards. Law enforcement can go after them easily.
I would hate to see what society would do to Newton if he was alive today. There is a guy who 100% would look at anything and everything, and probably not be able to tell the difference of right and wrong
I have no idea what this has to do with anything. You think Newton would be persecuted today because we don't like people looking at kiddy porn?
I don't remember all the details about Newton, but I remember some. He was a very troubled man, never loved as a child. He had so many sexual fetishes he would make Clinton look rather tame. But unlike Clinton, Newton was a rather powerless man. I believe Newton was a virgin into his 30's, and his first sexual contact was with a member of his immediate family. If Newton had the internet, I can only imagine to what newsgroups he would be a member. I doubt he would be a contributing member, but he would be there nonetheless.
Then there is all the talk that Newton stole his ideas from Liebwitz (spelling??).
This makes zero sense to me, we are going to lock people up in jail and pay for their incarceration for looking at something.
For all the people, before there is a holy war, let me set some things straight. If a person arranges to meet someone underage, send them to jail. If a person chats with someone underage and tries to solicit sex, send them to jail. I am all for sending people to jail who harm others.
But when it comes to looking at something, should this be a crime?
I am afraid the direction we are going in. Are we protecting children, or are we making ourselves feel like we are protecting children because we locked up people who looked at the wrong websites?
This is an issue that is only going to get worse. What about websites with instructions on how to make bombs? What about websites that don't explicitly tell you how to make a bomb, but give you all the information in a way that anyone could figure out?
Okay, so you want to talk about intent. What is the intent of the person looking at a website? What is the intent of a person looking at a website with a naked girl? Are we going to start measuring the sexual excitement a person has?
If the real goal is to protect children, how about going after the website owners? Why not spend the money which would lock up joe sixpack for his browser cache violation, and use that money to find and hunt down the people who abuse the children? It seems to me that hunting down the website owners, and those who commited the violent act is much more effective than spending money on joe blow because one morning at 2am after drinking all night he went on the web and found the wrong website.
I feel like it is so difficult a position to defend, yet if we want free speech, free expression of ideas, then we have to draw a line when it comes to throwing people in jail, to those crimes that harm someone or something.
I would hate to see what society would do to Newton if he was alive today. There is a guy who 100% would look at anything and everything, and probably not be able to tell the difference of right and wrong. How he figured out calculus between the fits of emotional turmoil and pychological collapse is beyond me. Maybe we can have a wing of the prision for thinkers, people with an IQ over 140. Wait... that might be a bad idea.
The House voted Wednesday to block the FBI and the Justice Department from using the Patriot Act to search library and book store records. Despite a veto threat from President Bush, lawmakers voted 238-187 to block the part of the anti-terrorism law that allows the government to investigate the reading habits of terror suspects.
I don't trust government. I think they are liars. They distract the public, to make everyone think they are doing the work of ALL people. Well, not even all, but those who work and have families.
How about this for an idea? Members of Congress hear the outrage of people, about big brother in the library keeping tabs on what you read. So in a public showdown, congress repeals the provision of the patriot act which allows government to obtain your reading list.
Act II. People forget about the other provisions of the patriot act where the FBI can search records without a court warrent, records like your bank accounts, or even your home. And even after the search, they don't tell you!!
Act III. The Education Bill is passed. What is in the Education Bill? A provision which requires libraries to keep tabs on what people read, "to better spend tax dollars".
Act IV. People disappear. Kinda like Guantanamo bay, but Americans this time. Of course, no lawyers allowed. Okay, government will cave, we'll give you a military lawyer.
Act V. Hell folks, if it gets to Act V, we're all doomed. Some say we already are.
SOLUTIONS
#1) We take all money out of politics.
As long as public office can be purchased, we are screwed. Money is being concentrated in the hands of a small minority. If it takes $7 million per Senate seat, and some believe that the NY seat will be a multiple of that amount, then who can run? Even congressional seats are over $1 million each.
If all money was removed from political contests, then it would be a level playing field for ideas. The people own the airways, we could order 10 hours for each candidate to recieve public airtime. But we don't even get ideas, we get marketing.
I think the USA is doomed. The sad part is we are causing war in every other part of the world. We want to bring to them capitalism, so the same system of buying elections can become possible.
You either need college or an extensive apprenticeship.
That is not how it used to be. There were plenty of good paying jobs in factories that required no skill. There were Unions that protected workers, kept salaries high, offered great medical benifits to the worker and their family, and people lived happy lives.
Not everyone wants to learn a skill. Some just want to go through the 9 to 5 and go home to watch TV.
What sucks about the USA is most of those jobs are gone. Those people who were unskilled no longer have good paying jobs, good enough to buy a nice house and a new car every 4 years.
And what good is college?? Think about this before anwsering. You learn to think? When did calculus ever help the guy managing the local McDonalds (yes, they want a degree). When did world history every help the web programmer (and now they are throwing everything else in the sink, it is not good enough to know HTML but they want 10 different languages and a degree).
The point is college is not needed, but HR has made it too easy to filter non granduates into the garbage pile. What is the anwser to those who don't want college, don't want a skill, but want a house and new car?
He told the graduates that few friends could see the value of learning calligraphy at the time but that painstaking attention to detail -- including mastering different "fonts" -- was what set Macintosh apart from its competitors.
"If I had never dropped out I might never have dropped in on that calligraphy," Jobs said.
Jobs also recounted founding Apple in his parent's basement and his tough times after being forced out of the company he founded when he was only 30.
They've already infected my machine! I keep getting pop-ups for penis enlargements! Help!
This reminds me of junior high. Someone found their daddys playboy and brought it to school. In the back was an advertisment for "penis enlargment... now the women will notice you!". So me and my buddies kicked in the $49.95 (in 1984 dollars, probably closer to $200 bones today). Do you know what we got back? A peice of plastic with a pump attached to it. And the plastic was so rough, it cut the dick. It sucked. It was the worst money we ever spent. And no, nobody believed the guy who used it before, everyone had to try it out. I just felt bad for the foriegn kid, who used it last. I don't think it felt anything like the goat from India he always talked about (although never admitted doing anything with).
Seriously, it was a $0.25 cent peice of garbage. We left it in the locker room. I think the PE teacher found it, because the next day he was walking like his dick was cut. Very gingerly.
I guess it is something everybody has to try once. It is like owning a pet rock. Some asshole paid for his $10,000,000 million dollar mansion selling people rocks for friendship.
Says alot about our society and how connected we really are.
6 cents per machine? Hah! Our outsourcing group could get it done for 4 cents.
But your help hotline would be in India. No thanks!
Spammer: Hello, this is 30 year old shit in parents basement calling. I have infected 4,000 machines but only credited with 500.
CallCenter: One moment, very sorry, read off sheet. Okay. Thank you so very much for using SpamInfect. We can help you.
Spammer: Okay, about those machines I was not credited with.
CallCenter: So very sorry. Very, very, very sorry. I sure it fixed soon.
Spammer: So, are you going to credit my account or what?
CallCenter: Yes, we credit right now. Right now. All better. Now you go to www.infectspammertoo.com for your reward.
I don't know about the rest of you, but how about a little privacy?
There will be a great deal of abuse here. Imagine some girl gives out her phone number, or some guy finds it in a phone book. They find the address, they map it out. They even know what bushes to hide behind. Neat, tech helping pervs.
I can see the mafia use this technology too. What to kill someone? How about a little research first. Lets see what roads lead to his house and away.
Hmmm... and an idea for myself. By studying these maps, I bet it would not be too hard to find a vulnerable bank to hit. Have some cohorts fake a car accident on main street, that blocks off the police station from the road that leads to the bank. Lets see.... 1022 S. Lake street is a wide building with a lot next to it, no houses. We can leave a car there to switch to. It is only 3 blocks away.
The only good thing is this won't be used by people who want to change the world. I can't see the Rodney King mob looking up their way to Beverly Hills on a laptop.
But still, what good is this. Is it a publicity move? Is it dangerous?
The alumni association is supposed to care about that.
I recieved mail from the school offering membership in the alumni association. They wanted money, I think it was $80 for the basic membership, but there were no real benifits. I think they were offering a coffee mug or something, maybe a tie pin. Or maybe that was the "gold" level of membership.
What can the alumni association do to stop teachers from going on strike over salaries or tenure? The alumni association has no real power, do they?
Unless it's applied, most higher math doesn't require a calculator (at least the Calculus/Diff Eq. I've taken). Calculators belong in science class, not in math class (unless you want to teach kids how to program on them, which is what I spent most of math class doing).
Calculators are just one more needless expense. When I started college over a decade ago, no math classes REQUIRED calculators. The next year, all the math classes required them, and the bookstore was filled with TI-89's (I think they were 89's, I know they were texas instruments).
A friend I knew form highschool has a HP-48gx that he loved. He used it in chem and all his classes. So he signs up for a calculus class that requires a calculator, and the first day the teacher checks that everyone had a calculator. Because he did not have the TI-89, he was told that he could not come to the next class until he purchased the TI.
This reminds me of something else my college did. My first year there, different vending machines had different soda's, some had coca-cola, others had pepsi. My second year back, all the machines had just pepsi, it was impossible to buy any coca-cola product on campus.
Then it dawned on me, what really happened. The faculty, my first year there, went on strike for a short time over tenure and salaries. The high end of the spectrum paid teachers with a PhD and over 10 years teaching over $95,000 a year. I believe the starting salary was $38,000 per year with a masters degree (it is a community college). They wanted $120,000 for the high end, and gaurenteed tenure after 4 years teaching. The teachers got what they wanted.
Oh, tuition went from $18 a quarter hour to $21 an hour that summer, along with a $1 per quarter hour "capital assesment fee" and a $1 per quarter hour "instruction fee". That made tuition $23 an hour, up from $18. Neither of those two extra charges were explained, except they were temporary. It has been over 10 years, and the school added a few more of them since then. And I hear the teachers are talking strike again.
And here is what gets me. Schools are public institutions, created to serve the public. How the hell did the teachers railroad the community into paying outrageous salaries, how did corporations get a monopoly for selling their products (like only pepsi and no coca-cola), and at prices twice as high as off campus?? Granted, this was a community college, and everyone drove there, but if someone wanted to protest the $1.30 can of pepsi and drive down the road to buy a $0.75 can of coca-cola, they would lose their parking place.
What is next, will universities sell their naming rights? Will Ohio State University be renamed to Sprint PCS presents Ohio State University??
It is too bad. Students have ZERO power to do anything. Students rarely stay long enough, and even if a student does not enroll out of protest, the student is only hurting their earning power. Furthermore, there will be other students the university can accept.
It is a damn shame that education has boiled down to money. I would love to see "free" universities, where people who love a subject give classes. How many 60ish year old retired engineers are there that would love to teach math part time, just because they love it? Why has academia attracted people who want to make lots of money?
I'm almost positive that the RIAA will ignore this fact and still tell the public and the government that P2P is killing them
Does anyone remember when CD's were first introduced? The music industry told us the CD's would last forever. The music quality would stay perfect forever. That tapes would decline over the years.
Now I have a large collection of CD's that have rot, that don't play, that skip. I took excellent care of the CD's, I did not scratch them, and I kept CD's in their cases. And some won't play!
So I am entitled to download as much free music as I want. I am entitled to make copies and give them out for free.
The music industry had illegal agreements to keep the price of CD's high. They got caught. What was their punishment? To give libaraies CD's, and what did the RIAA give? 100 copies of the same CD to each library?
People in the USA are free. We can share whatever we want with whoever we want.
In addition you can also store it on 4 additional computers. Or is it 6 now? I forget
And how does the iTune DRM know how many computers it is on?
Is it like Windows that now calls home when making an instal? I had a copy of windows on a new system. I sold that system, and put linux on it. I wanted to take Windows and put it on a computer I built. I called the number, but they would not activate Windows on that machine.
So, now that WinMX is entering the "mainstream" (regarding public knowledge etc) does this mean they are next on the chopping block?
WinMX was awesome 3 years ago. It sucks today.
The RIAA has known about them for over a year. The RIAA has copies of songs they share that is nothing but the first 10 seconds of a song, looping over and over again. Some songs have high pitched sounds every 40 seconds that are designed to destroy speakers. I would like to see someone sue the RIAA for blown out speakers.
What we need is a network to share music where only good people can go. People who value sharing, not places where corporate greed can offer crap designed to destroy a network. Not where corporate greed can intimidate.
I have every right to share music I paid for. If I want you to hear my copy of music, it is my absolute right to show it to you.
The next step will be to have a network hosted in a country where music sharing is legal. All songs will have some moderation, saying the copy is good or bad. How many people can the RIAA send there?
The problem with WinMX is someone downloads a song and shares it. The song has a high pitched crap 50 seconds into the song. The guy checks the first 10 seconds to see if it loops, then clicks to the end of the song. Everything looks good. I'll share. But the mp3 is flawed, and people keep trading it.
Once that is fixed, we can trade music without frustration again.
What will happen when Apple goes bankrupt? Or when the next generation of mini-players comes out with a new DRM?
People are paying for music, then being told how they can use it.
Fair use is simple. I can make as many copies for myself as I want. Many DRM's make it impossible to make even a back up copy. But what if I want one copy for my MP3 player, one on a CD for my car, and one for my wifes car? Does that mean I must buy three copies?
Oy, these Rebbes today, so unimaginitive. Whatever happened to REAL anti-theft devices for holy artifacts, like the one on the Ark of the Covenant that melted your face off?
I think that requires a real God. And the God jews have is not Real. They should upgrade to christianity. With the upgrade, they would get 1) Forgivness 4.05, 2) Tolerance 0.90 beta, and 3) Real God Jesus 1.0 (the first release was perfection).
The following packages will be removed: 1) Bigotry 1543r12, and 2) Narcissism 465. The package of Inbreeding will be truncated because it is incompatinge with new code (except in parts of Tennessee and Kentucky where that code is still maintained).
More attention should be focused on solving the problem itself than making it easier to apprehend the criminals.
Plus, there is the problem of finding the third world country to extradite the criminal to for punishment.
Jews have an anti-death penalty rule for other Jews (however, they will give the death penalty to non-Jews. Unfair? Yeah).
So what Jews must do is hand over the criminal to some third world country where acid, electricity, and chinese water torture are applied.
You all have heard about chinese water torture? It is horrible. They tie a person down on a table, and have a drop, one single drop of water fall on the persons forehead. They keep dropping water one drop at a time, until the one drop feels like a ton of bricks. It is said to be enough to drive any person insane, beyond any medical help.
But Judaic law "dictates that not one character can be added to the 304,805 letters of the Torah's text"
Jews have laws this tough on protecting their culture, yet they bomb the palestinans without mercy, often killing innocent bystanders and not giving a crap. Sure, they say "it is just payback", but who exactly are they paying back? Screw it... they all look alike.
Is is like the "special" law Jews have. No matter how bad the crime, they can never give the death penalty to another Jew. But they can slaughter non-jews at will.
Look at the guy who killed Rabin, he got a jail sentance because he was Jewish. BTW, the reason Rabin was assasinated was because he was close to peace, he was ready to make peace.
What makes Jews so special?

Intel Claims No DRM
·
· Score: 2
DRM = DRM. whether announced or unannounced. You added support for DRM to your hardware. That means I can't buy Intel gear anymore. End of story.
You can wrap it in acronyms. You can attempt to misdirect, obfuscate, or otherwise try to hide the fact that Intel sold out to corporate interests.
No DRM. Not on my computer. Not now. Not ever.
Yeah, wait til you have a choice.
If Intel, AMD, and Via all follow suit, then you will be doing your computing on a wooden instrument moving plastic beads around.

"If I had never dropped out I might never have dropped in on that calligraphy," Jobs said.
Jobs also recounted founding Apple in his parent's basement and his tough times after being forced out of the company he founded when he was only 30.
All is well. I am right on track to greatness.
I recieved mail from the school offering membership in the alumni association. They wanted money, I think it was $80 for the basic membership, but there were no real benifits. I think they were offering a coffee mug or something, maybe a tie pin. Or maybe that was the "gold" level of membership.
What can the alumni association do to stop teachers from going on strike over salaries or tenure? The alumni association has no real power, do they?
I want to OWN what I buy.
Sneaky, making advertising look like a post.
What is the chance of coincidence of a company president being here at just the right time, to tell everyone about his company??
What will happen when Apple goes bankrupt? Or when the next generation of mini-players comes out with a new DRM?
People are paying for music, then being told how they can use it.
Fair use is simple. I can make as many copies for myself as I want. Many DRM's make it impossible to make even a back up copy. But what if I want one copy for my MP3 player, one on a CD for my car, and one for my wifes car? Does that mean I must buy three copies?
Religion can be grouped in 2 groups. Those that follow the read God, and those who are tricked by the devil.
Christ is the only way to God. All others a sinners that will burn in Hell with the butt fuckers and suicide bombers and mothers who had abortions.
I know I am going to get flaimbait for this post, but if I helped one young person pick Christ, it is worth it.
To bad Jews don't like Apt-Get install TrueGod.
Hope that helps all the Jews! Nice day all. :)
You can wrap it in acronyms. You can attempt to misdirect, obfuscate, or otherwise try to hide the fact that Intel sold out to corporate interests.
No DRM. Not on my computer. Not now. Not ever. Yeah, wait til you have a choice.
If Intel, AMD, and Via all follow suit, then you will be doing your computing on a wooden instrument moving plastic beads around.
