I thought parlement decided to start taxing the Queen? If that is the case, she has to raise money to pay for her lifestyle, which I would guess is in the tens of millions of dollars a year. I bet she gets that money by selling to people a chance to join her aristocratic click- get invited to parties at buckingham, etc...
While Bill Gates is on his knees, will he provide the Queen with oral sex? I can just imagine it. She with a sword above his head, gates down below her royal snatch.
I guess my opinion of the Brits just went down. They will do anything for a few dollars.
What happened to a title meaning something? I guess getting knighted is going to be like getting a CCNA, everyone with the $100 bucks and a review book can find a way to get it.
This kind of thing happens all the time. If you look at the history of Europe and the aristocracy, you will see much inbreeding to concentrate power and wealth. Most Kings, Queens, Princes of different countries, and so on were all related by blood. Knighting Bill Gates is probably has little to do with his "innovation" and more to do with his wealth, concentrating that power into a closed circle.
If you ask me, I think the Queen is stroking Gates for some unknown reason. Money is the obvious guess, but I think there might be even more to it. Who knows what kinds of deals are struck behind closed doors in smoke filled rooms. Gates becomes a knight, and the Queen lobbys her contacts in parlement to not force open source consideration in government?

The spacecraft is composed of three main subsystems, as shown. The Payload Module, developed at MIT, provides life support capabilities and data telemetry/storage from onboard experiments; the Entry Descent and Landing system, developed at the University of Queensland, carries the payload safely back to Earth at the conclusion of the mission and protects it from heat and impact shocks during descent and landing; and the Spacecraft Bus, developed at the University of Washington, contains the orbital systems providing navigation, propulsion, power, communications, and environmental regulation throughout the mission.
How much extra will it cost to bring the unit back to earth? I would save a little money on the return trip and add more sensors (or better sensors), maybe plan more experiments.
This is cool. If I was a physics student in highschool, I think MIT jumped to the head of the class. What is Cal-Tech going to do to top this?
The problem is they lied about it. And I would ask you to recosnider just giving away personal information because of national security. Will this really improve your security?
Maybe it is just my tinfoil hat, but I see a slippery slope with government taking away more and more freedom, while collecting more and more information on its citizens. Is that reason for alarm?
The number of people downloading music illegally surged a month after recording companies began suing hundreds of music fans, a marketing research firm said Thursday.
I still say it is not illegal. If it was legal for me to get a tape and record off the radio, then why is it illegal for me to use my pc? Also, what I HATE about the music industry is they rip people off. They all made secret deals to keep prices high, and they do not pay the artists anything. Why does a CD cost $15 bucks when I can buy a blank one for $0.05 and burn it myself? And if the artist is not getting money, then who is? Plus, this dollar a song crap is just as bad, it still costs 15 bucks to make a CD (yet minus the manufacturing costs, warehouse costs, and store costs). The recording companies are still overcharging.
I say people should keep sharing. If I find some song which tells me something or makes me feel something, I want others to know about it. And if I own that song, I have a right to make as many copies and give them out to whoever I want. I could care less about the RIAA terrorists.
To all the smart people at slashdot. I need your help.
There is a streaming WMA my school uses for distance education lessons. Sometimes I can not access those pages, as their server is crappy. Other times when there are many people using the server, I get 30 seconds of play then it buffers again. And they only leave a lesson up as long as it is going to be on the next test, then they take down the lesson. Is there ANY way to record a WMA to a hard drive? Please help!!!
What is wrong with MPEG's???? Those are easy to use, save, and play.
For those 3 out of 1000 emails that complied to the can spam law, I bet you they were not of the viagra variety. So filtering the compliant emails will not fix anything. For the hell of it, why not block anything that is not can spam compliant and only allow the compliant email in. Is that possible?
I have an idea. Why not use a slashdot like feature with emails? You can have your friends, foes and such. And you can rate -1 to +5 sources of email. And you can set a threshold for what emails you accept. Something like accept all emails from friends, and anything with a +2 or higher. All we would need is one database to keep track of the ratings.
Wow, that is alot of conversations Uncle Sam was listening in on. What I would find to be more interesting is how many arrests were made from those 2,200,000 wiretaps.
Can VoIP be encrypted in such a way that even if it is intercepted, it is useless? What is to stop someone from writing code that does that? Or will the NSA get involved?
Many companies do this. H&R block will give you a "loan" check when you fill out your taxes, based on what you will get back from the government. How is what this website does different? They are giving people products based on how much money Microsoft will owe them. What is the big deal? Nobody is forcing people to use that service.
I do not want to call you names, or insult you. I did not have to "Accept once". What I had was a warning saying the name on the certificate did not match the site.
Second, this is not a question of OS platform, it is a question of buisness ethics. Maybe you are in that 1% that has a system set up in a sandbox, but what about my mom or dad that does not?
As a result of the player engine being developed in the Helix community, we're able to offer the benefits of the new RealAudio and RealVideo in in the Helix Player for Linux. We read Slashdot here at Real, especially when the subject of our company or technology comes up, so we know some of you may not have liked recent versions of our player. This release represents a much friendlier direction for us; more options that were 'opt-out' are now 'opt-in'.
We, we, we? Who are you? Who compromises the "we"??
BTW, I was unable to see the helix website because my browser said the security certificate did not match the name of who it was granted to.
So how many more hidden things are "opt-in". If you hear us, then why hide spyware?
So, does this mean that the acceleration of the earth has changed, and if so, does that that mean we will continue to slow? If we do slow, won't the gravity of the sun effect out orbit? Will we see more el ninjo effects, or other wierd phenomenon?
One second could be a big deal.
S3 has set its sights on the midrange price/performance category, which is currently dominated by ATI's Radeon 9600 XT and nVidia's GeForce FX 5700, both of which are under $200.
Since when is $200 and under the midrange? Isn't that where video cards top out for most of the market?
I only purchased one video card in my life that was over $100 and it was noting spectacular compared to video cards in older systems I had around the house with half the video memeory. What are you people doing with video? Heck, I had a system with a 16 meg voodoo card that can play DVD's. And they are selling on ebay for 10 bucks.
don't the cable companies have a rental charge for those boxes? if you order service and pay for it, don't they charge you for each additional descrambler you have to rent. how is owning your descrambler any different from buying a cable modem. you still pay for the service, but instead of renting the equipment, you own it. why should anyone be forced to rent the box? this sounds to me like they are shifting the burden from proving you are doing something illegal like stealing cable, to saying we know you have the box, now prove you are innocent.
also, for the money you spend, why can't you buy individual chanels from the cable company. why do you have to buy them in a package? what if all i want to buy from them is just cspan and cnn? why cant i buy just those two chanels? what do i also have to get a package? because they are a monopoly and the only other option is a dish, and if you live in a condo or apartment and do not face south, you are screwed.
One more thing. Why not punish the sex offenders instead of using this as a reason to take away freedom from everyone else?
How about we give each sex offender a GPS device, so we know where they are 100% of the time. It can be a condition of parole. If they ever get stopped and do not have it, they go back to jail. If they go within a certain distance of a school, they go to jail.
It would provide a much better system. Not only would you protect the kids better by knowing where all the sex offenders are, you would not force the rest of us to have to submit to an invasion of privacy for a system that does not work.
I also hate the idea of teaching kids that getting photographed everywhere is okay.
Then why not go all the way. Lets get a camera and radar detecter on every highway and mail tickets. Why not force everyone to get fingerprinted, and use them instead, whenever they want to buy something (so they do not counterfit or use stolen credit cards), whenever they take an exam, whenever they go to a bank, or enter a school. And the government can keep all this data in a database. Heck maybe libraries can use this too, to track what we read.
Make jokes about the tinfoil hat, but if history proves one thing, when those in power are given an oppertunity for more power, they take it. Sorry, but I for one do not want to blindly give it away. I would rather have a very in depth discussion about how it is used and what safegaurds are in place to stop abuses.
Let me ask you this, are you one of the people who supported the Patriot Act?
"If it works one time, locates one missing child or saves a child from a sexual attack, I feel it's worth it," said Arpaio, a tough-talking sheriff who has previously gained notoriety for his chain gangs and prison-issued pink underwear.
From a sheriff who issues pink underwear? I think we found the purvert.
Seriously, there is the potential for abuse. Why not just do better background checks of who the school hires? This is a scapegoat. First, it will not work, as some human has to be there to make a final decision if two photo's match (las vegas casino's have a system like this to catch cheaters, but they pay big bucks for analysts who run the software). This software is not like a fingerprint. Second, it may relax the current hiring, with officials thinking "eh, the camera will catch what slips by us". Third, what if this does lead to other more invasive losses of privacy, such as finger printing each child- some may see this as a slippery slope.
While I am all for keeping kids safe, I think there are much better ways to do it rather than getting kids used to having camera's everywhere.
Although based in North Carolina, Virginia is asserting jurisdiction over Jaynes because he sent messages through computers located in the state.
So he hijacked other computers in Virginia to send the spam. If that is the case, I hope they throw the book at him. And if this law works, I hope other states adopt it.
If for example, you picked a time 10 years ago, and looked at a person from that time, one might think that there were many possibilities of what could happen in those 10 years to that person; like a tree, with each leaf being a possiblility of today's existance. That makes sence to the person 10 years in the past, they think they are making choices.
What the original post said was someone had the idea of slowing down time to look back in the past. There is only one route to today's future, or should I say only one route to the past. No choices. Going backwards, you could connect all the dots. There are no choices. Perhaps our idea of freedom and choice is just an incorrect way at looking at time.
Yeah, if George Bush gets re-elected, then you will have the trifecta.
I thought parlement decided to start taxing the Queen? If that is the case, she has to raise money to pay for her lifestyle, which I would guess is in the tens of millions of dollars a year. While these swimming trunks might look very tight and small and unimpressive, I can gaurentee you there are 4 gigs hidden down there.
