  3. Problems - Heat generation on Shaking Hard Drives Instead of Spinning? · · Score: 2, Insightful

    Heat generation is one problem.
you have to speed up and slow down the point several for every half cycle.
This is a lot of energy, even assuming it is all on 'springs' you will get some mechanical loss due to friction.
This will likely be much more heat and power consumption then a current rotating drive.

What about the cost of many heads? Right now a hard drive is a small number of expensive heads, and a large area of cheap media. This could cause the cost to skyrocket.

I also get pissed off when columnists consider the Charter/Constitution/Human rights laws "technicalities" that let off criminals.
Yes maybe they get off because of that, but I'd rather the government be in a struggle to control, then to just let them run the whole country.

If you are a member of a democracy you should always make your opinion heard.

Tell your President, Prime minister, governor premier mayor, MP, MEP, MPP, senator congressman, alderman, councillor etc what you want.

Their job is to represent you, and work in the best interest of their consitiuents and the area as a whole.
To do this they MUST know your opinions.

If you were them and lots of people write/tell you what they want, don't you think that might influence your stance on issues?
If the politicians really thought they wouldn't get re-elected if they voted for the invasion of Iraq, they wouldn't have authorized it.
With recall legislation becoming more popular this is even more important.
Even Bush would get a little nervous if people started recalling their Republican Governors to replace them with Democrats.

FWIW I emailed my MP (Federal representative) about a do not call registry, his assistant emailed back the letter my MP had previously sent requesting such legislation.

His administration has made good progress in at least parts of some issues. He isn't as big a protectionist as Kerry, even though there is a lot of pressure to just "Ban Offshoring".
I think he's making a mess out of Iraq, but he did a pretty good job in Afghanistan, gaining international support to invade and to rebuild.

As for intelligent and education correlating, I don't quite agree. In your 20's young and idealistic and at college, you see some of the mess and get an idea of how it can be fixed, by voting for these liberal guys. They've got it figured out!
They'll strengthen the unions and save jobs, and make the company uncompetative till the US steel industry collapses.
Lets build an expensive system of social programs to help the poor. But this is expensive, so we'll raise taxes, leaving less money available to invest in a new manufacturing facility to give those same people jobs.

I think the objections in the US would be even stronger.

If the US were to start killing civilians in such a manner, it will breed even more terrorism with the attitude "The US must be stopped no matter the what". And it won't be just the axis of evil saying that, it will be almost everyone.

Assuming google did have 2 billion in the bank, at even 10% bank interest, that is only $200 million, with a market cap of 40 billion, that is works out to 0.5%, not even enough to cover the brokers commission when you buy the stock.
