    There has to be a hierarchy.
    Some people are just better/more capable/ more deserving of certain limited resources.

    It isn't just money or power, it's Friday night at the local bar, some guys get the hot chicks, and others don't.

    I've been using linux since the early 90's.
    Always the stable version, didn't have problems until I tried reiserfs, switched back to ext2 ext3 actually, and I didn't have problems again.

    The source of my problem appears to be resierfs directly or indirectly I don't know, like most users I don't really care either.

    Doctor it hurts when I do this.
    Then stop doing that.

    Good enough for me.

    I am not aware of serious problems in any US election.
    You must not be looking hard, I'm only in my 20's and I have heard of election problems at some level in many democratic countries.
    In the last Canadian Federal election at least one poll opened serveral hours late because they didn't have the ballots. In some areas peoples registration cards indicated their polling station was unreasonably far away (20+ minute drive when there is one a 10 minute walk away)

    A full scale national election is a big project, if there weren't some reports of something going wrong somewhere, I'd guess they just aren't reporting it.

    I had corruption with Reiserfs.
    Yes I have cheap memory, yes I have an AMD cpu.

    But I know I can't trust Reiserfs on my computer.
    File corruption is one of the most unacceptable errors a user can deal with.

    I think the most frustrating part is I don't even know of a way to prove out my hardware so this won't happen in the future.

    I am not aware of serious problems in the last Canadian election. There were some recounts.

    Actually in the past when there were serious concerns they have a byelection in that riding.
    If they are illegally shutting down polls or denying voters, or creating other barriers to a free election, I think the only way to overcome it is to run it again.

    The US did not permit UN election monitors in the last presidential election.

    I think that any election should have some international monitors, even if only in limited numbers. Countries should be proud that they have fair election practices.

    To do this, they use an array of small speakers, sometimes as many as 300 or 400.

    Not very surprising that 300 speakers will give you a better surround experience.

    The problem is you don't buy the item with your credit card.
    Lets look at paying via paypal with a credit card.

    You ask paypal to send some money to someone, You pay for this service with your credit card.
    Paypal sends the money to this person. There is no fraud with the credit card transaction itself, paypal did exactly what they said they would.

    Molson Canadian has at least two different versions. If you don't believe me compare them yourself, the Canadian one is better than the export version.

    Yes we have our own issues.
    The health care system is a little overloaded, but when I had minor issues I just went to a walk in clinic.
    I went a 8:30 in the morning and I got in within a few minutes.

    Banking industry has some big players, but it is pretty competative, if you don't like it just borrow from another source.
    The reason our interest rates are so high is our government set the rate at about 3% and the US is still around 1%, so the entire market is about 2% higher.

    My opinion is that the middle class life isn't going to be much different in either country, like most first world countries you'd have pretty nice standard of living.

    Add in CPP and EI. (Mandatory 'programs' are just more tax).

    I don't know about you but I pay over $2k in property tax, 8% PST, 7% GST, fuel taxes, alcohol taxes and a health care levy.

    To me this comes up pretty damn close to 50%.

    The reason it needs more study is because it is still not a proven theory.

    The current popular idea is we're bad and making a mess, and it is likely right. What we don't know is if human activity is the only cause, or if there is another factor. What about historical climate patterns, we know they are there.

    If you apply 160kW or about 200 hp of electricity to a system, it should be no surprise that something useful comes out.

    Another method is to just apply the electricity and simply split the water into hydrogen and oxygen. Then burn them to recombine.

    There are 3 solutions
    Monitor and punishement, but this can be expensive to monitor everything

    Taxes from the local community, no incentive to individuals.

    Tax the product, preferably at time of sale. Finely targeted taxation is a good idea. When I bought my car I got an A/C surcharge, but I also got a fuel efficiency rebate. When I bought my fridge I got a tax rebate.
    I think targeted action like this can help sway behaviour, and support proper disposal.

    The city should offer free or low cost recycling for toxic garbage. Otherwise they will dump illegally.
    Many cities around me have added bag limits for trash, what ends up happening is illegal dumping, or people putting their trash in front of others houses.

    Few things are more annoying then having 2 bags of garbage in August putting them out, and not having them picked up because someone threw their garbage in front of your house.

    Open source is just accelerating the inevitable results of a free market.

    The economy is a closed system. Every dollar taken by software is one dollar less that can be invested somewhere else in the organization.

    If a company needs new software, and it is worthwhile they will buy it, Off the shelf or custom written, and someone will have a job.
    If it isn't worthwhile they won't buy it and someone won't have a job.

    Artifically forcing a company to buy new software will create jobs, but forces the company to spend money that isn't worthwhile is just a waste.
