I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra. The claimed fuel consumption is in L/100km 8.5/6.1 City/highway I consistently get 6.8-7.1. I'll admit that I do a lot of highway driving, but I also drive quite aggressively in the city. If you're constantly speeding or changing speed you're wasting gas. If you floor it at every green light, you're wasting gas.
If you sit on cruise control at a single speed at a lower speed (around the speed limit) you will get much better mileage.
I think the slight preview is kinda neat. It only takes a small amount of screen real estate, but looks like the window. This should make it easier for someone to remember what these half minimized windows are.
Myself I'll stick to shading windows, but I think this could be useful.
I believe that the employee should be encouraged to improve the performance of the company. Profit sharing or other performance related compensation is a good idea.
I'm not even opposed to stock options.
I am opposed to people insisting that they have no cost, and throwing them around like such.
The company creates new stock. The 'loss' is that the company doesn't get the full value of what that stock would be on the market.
It doesn't matter if they bought it or create it, they are still 'out' that money. If they buy it from the market this is obvious, if they just create it the 'loss' is that they could have sold it to the market to get that same money.
Yes it is a good idea to link company and employee performance. But when something is given the value must be recorded.
Options have value, and people will pay for them. By giving them away the company is basically giving away money. To say there is no cost is not accurate, and the owners deserve to have the most accurate picture of comapny finances available.
The tobacco industry ones are pretty good, of course it helps that some of them are even true. The JFK assasination has some good ones, well thought out and logical.
Now stuff like the faked moon landings I'd consider a third rate conspiracy. The disappearing crosshairs is the funniest one. If I was to fake a moon landing, I'd use a camera with crosshairs, and not edit them in.
I is possible to have a near dictatorship in the Canadian Parlimentary system. Just look at the Ontario Liberals, it is possible that they might keep 1 of their election promises (they've broken two hundred of them so far). They've also rewritten and changed laws to make their behaviour legal.
I think any democracy can be perverted into a dictatorship if the governing powers wish it.
I believe Moore was looking for enlisted soldiers in Iraq. Politicians sons are likely going to be officers, so they wouldn't apply to Moorse skewed statistic.
That being said you can be sure Moore had more then a few hours of film on the cutting room floor.
But he is doing the duty of EVERY patriotic American. He is pushing his ideas on how to make a better America. Every citizen of every country has the same duty.
Rather then blindly sitting by he is trying to promote change in the behaviour of the people.
He has not given any aid the the enemy, he is only trying to stop a war. I've had people say "the time to argue is over, don't try to change things, this is the way it is". If that was the way democracy was blacks wouldn't be people, and women wouldn't have the vote.
I suggest that anyone even considering to take this movie at face value make a list of the top 3 things that outraged themselves and go do research on the issues
I can't agree more. The problem is that people will listen and not think for themselves.
One of the obvious things that got me was the SS protection of the Saudi embassy after 9/11. I think it is a responsible thing to have additional security protect ANY embassy that might be the victim of crime.
As for a large US corporation having meetings with Saudis. Assume for a second that the Saudis control 6-7% of the US economy, at that rate it is pretty likely that almost any US based company is going to have interactions with a Saudi influenced company. There is no conspiricy required.
As for Saudi investing in Texas oil companies this makes sense. They get their money from oil, why not use this to get involved in oil and energy worldwide. This way no matter what happens to their Saudi oil, they benefit. If there is a massive uprising in Saudi Arabia, they get money from oil in other countries. They're just hedging their bets.
Face it, everyone wants to hire an experienced proven employee, but then not have to pay them much.
Realistically the 'requirements' are more of a wishlist. For full time employees they want someone with the basic skills with a personality to handle the job. (smart, fast learner, plays well with others....
I'd apply to these jobs, point out any experience, if you get an interview tell them what you know, and where you want to go. Nobody ever gets the perfect candidate, just show that you are a good choice.
The postage systems aren't intended to stop spam, only to limit the quantity. It is the volume of spam that bothers most people, if you make it sufficiently expensive to send the email, only legitimate business will send it. Ideally they will turn to specifically targetted advertising (like google searches)
I was actually attacking the attitude in the origional article.
I might not have been clear in my post.
1. Rocket engines can be dangerous. 2. Many things are dangerous. 3. Harsh laws and regulation mostly harms law abiding citizens.
The article suggested that rocketry isn't dangerous, and these people wouldn't do bad things. I agree proper care can make it safe, and amateur rocketry clubs aren't going to blow up the US. The problem is that the 'baddies' of whatever stripe don't care about the law, and will still have access to the same materials. The more prominent or widespread the legitimate use the less likely they will ban it. Note that air travel, diesel fuel, rental trucks, fertilizer and box cutters are still widely available.
If the legitimate use is limited they are more likley to push it. P2P, guns near schools, model rocketry.
Sorry rockets and rocket engines are potentially dangerous. They like fertilizer and diesel fuel could be used in such a was as to have devastating effects.
Think of a 30' rocket, replace some of that with an explosive, or hazardous chemical. You could have a pretty dangerous weapon. It isn't a scud, but the V2 rockets weren't happily received either.
Again, like most potentially dangerous things this legislation will harrass the legitimate law abiding users, and the bad people will still have access to them.
Previous or Existing business relationship. That is a biggie, I don't know how to get them to go away.
Political and Charity groups. I haven't gotten any (except the police charity), but I would inform them that their rude interruption means I will specifically not support them. Fortuneately few real charities have ever called me. You could also follow this up with a contact to the group that you don't approve of this. I'm sure that they'd be glad to know that you are voting against their candidate soley because of his telemarketing like behaviour.
If they know an election can come any time now, maybe they'll keep their promises. The Ontario Liberals are certainly acting like everyone will forget sometime in the next 5 years.
I wouldn't worry about it. Slashdot moderation tends to work okay. Meta moderation also helps. I watched it go from my origional post down, then back up again.
Even on slashdot the raving anti MS zealots are a minority. Many of the viewers/moderators seem to be reasonable people.
Make your point, speak your mind, meta moderate to help, and don't worry about being modded down.
MS can survive with Open Source. For all the bashing the slashdot crowd gives they aren't all that bad.
MS has made some nice stuff. They have some skilled people and good marketing. They just need to create value.
There have been some good things they have done. MS Flight simulator, long history of an excellent product here. Defined a standard window system, does anyone else remember back in the DOS days with a new GUI system for every app? MS also did a good job with VB making it trivial to hack together a quick GUI app.

I don't understand, so what the company has been indicted.
Just move the domain. They don't need to physically move anything, heck they claim that domain names aren't even property.
They aren't quite rotated 90 degrees.
I think the slight preview is kinda neat. It only takes a small amount of screen real estate, but looks like the window.

The first option doesn't happen within a reporting period so this couldn't happen.
The second option would be fair, I agree with it.
I believe that the employee should be encouraged to improve the performance of the company. Profit sharing or other performance related compensation is a good idea.
I'm not even opposed to stock options.
I am opposed to people insisting that they have no cost, and throwing them around like such.
Every single additional stock dilutes my share of the company.
The only way to stop this is to buy back stock, which is a huge expense.
If options have no value, why would anyone want them? The answer is that the value is their expected value in the future.
They do have a cost, just it is an unknown future cost. The problem with not costing it is the future liability is not accounted for.
The difficulty of expensing options should not be a barrier to accounting for them.
You can currently buy stock options in the market, why not use a similar system?
The company creates new stock.
The 'loss' is that the company doesn't get the full value of what that stock would be on the market.

And who funded the hijackers?
Was it the Saudi government, the population at large or individuals in the country?
Don't confuse the government, the citizens, and the group of individuals.
Yes it is very pro American.
Democracy needs criticism and choice. If this movie can make people think, it will have made a difference.
Likely people will just jump on the bandwagon of Moores second rate conspiracy theory until a better one comes along.
I suggest that anyone even considering to take this movie at face value make a list of the top 3 things that outraged themselves and go do research on the issues
