Wait a moment... This thing has "sport photo viewing capabilities"? So I can only look at sport photos? I dunno... I prefer to see my sports through a video feed of some sort more than I like still photos.:)
Imagine what would happen if they opened up their Rent Due spreadsheet and read something like "If you are reading this, than I could have altered the amount I owe. You need better security. Kthxbye."
I was around when the Nader-ites tried to crash the Wake Forest debate. They started up the road about a dozen houses from where I live, where there's a nice convenient park, and then they marched a mile or so to the university, shouting their chants rather loudly en route. They left a ton of slogans and stuff on the sidewalk in chalk. The stuff which was close enough was erased and replaced with my messages supporting my own favored candidate. It was a fascinating experience.:)
Anyone who's listened to old radio...

Anyone who's listened to old radio shows will remember ads for BlueCoal. The blue stuff is a marketing gimmick and also helped lubricate it for coal chutes.
Well, as long as we're throwing around university name confusion, think of Miami University vs University of Miami. One of the two is in Oxford. Oh- that's Oxford, Ohio, mind you.:)
I can only assume that Microsoft will be designing Media Software that will not play non-MS-approved content. Otherwise how can it tell whether a song you are playing is something you ripped yourself, or downloaded? Surely you could burn a CD and re-rip if Microsoft enforced that type of requirement?
Consider. Of the reasons to run Windows over something else, one of the most important is the compatibility issue: "it runs the programs I want it to". Now, if Windows Media Player doesn't let you listen to "stolen" music, how about you grab Winamp or Foobar2000 or something? Oh, wait, but that won't work on the new systems: it's been DRMed out! Hey, wait a moment... what was that about compatibility? How exactly do they expect to pull this off?
The above are the opinions of one person and most likely do not reflect the opinions of the rest of/.
Indeed... I found the recent poll fascinating in describing the political demographic of slashdot. I think they're just keeping this story at the top for as long as possible as well. Everyone here loves to hate Bush. (Whether this is bad or not is a matter of your judgement.)
6667 isn't enough. Freenode, for instance, lets stuff through on port 7000. On the other hand, the 6660 series will certainly discourage casual chatters.
... then please, don't just give in without at least some idea of what it is you're supposedly violating. Surely they can understand the rationale behind this if they're at all vaguely legit.
Is this open source as in Microsoft calls it open, open source as in it's really open, or is it somewhere in between? Is it under the GPL or similar?
I'm a die-hard MediaWiki guy myself, anyway, and this software can call back when it's successfully handling an encyclopedia site of over a million articles.:)
(now there's a thought: do Encarta with this thing...)
ADAscript is not ADA!!! One is compiled to bytecode and then JustInTime-compiled and executed by a browser plugin, the other is interpreted by the browser itself.
Oh, wait, I was getting confused with something else. Carry on.

It can at least be green enough that we should choose it over what we have now.
Maybe they could do something similar with the Slashdot effect- clear the servers ahead of time so there's not that nasty burning wreck effect... :)

Rock, meet Hard Place.

It's only $5,000 right now. Things will get better in a decade or so.
Free iPods? Sure!
Well, I guess that's one way to do it...
I just keep trying to sing it to the tune of _I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General_ (Pirates of Penzance) and failing. =(

Money is money because people believe it is money.
dropped an amazing 40% after the raid. Wow. Fun.
This is a government office we're talking about. Following its own rules... that sounds like a major reform to me. :)
I suppose Jane Wyman is the first lady... and Jack Benny is secretary of the treasury!
(cut to Marty imploring Doc to listen to his tale of flux capacitors).
... and here's proof! They knew enough to schedule a shutdown in advance! COWBOYNEAL, YOU'RE GOING DOWN!!!!!1!1!1!!eleven
Note also that this is linkspam, as opposed to emailspam. Not that this makes it ethical or anything...

Dude. You had a chance to say "pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis" and passed it up. Your Slashdotting license ought to be revoked.
