Linux is not Windows. Stop trying to make it as such.
Very true, but linux is trying to beat windows at its own game, which little "nuances" like this proves needs lots more work than some on here would admit. Not meaning to sound funny, but consitency isn't something to be shunned because windows has it. Consistency is what brings non-computer-literate people to a system. They know they only have to learn how to do something once, and it applies to everything else. On linux, as you will agree, that isn't the case. Each application has its own unique way of doing things, and that doesn't sit well with lots of potential end-users.
Which i read, however the poster was alluding to being able to use a PCI slot to connect a graphics card good enough to play modern games, which is impossible, as AGP is required for modern games.
And if those criminals didn't have access to guns, there'd be no problem. You don't think those guns magically appeared in the criminals' christmas stockings, did you? They didn't - they were once legal guns. Take away the legal guns, and the illegal guns disappear too. Train your police to be as effective, if not moreso, than an armed civilian, and you've got no excuse.
Don't be fooled into thinking person+gun=crime fighter. Unless that person has suitable training (which, the last time i checked, doesn't come included with the gun) they are more of a threat to themselves and their loved ones than to criminals. Being alive doesn't qualify you as someone deemed worthy of owning a device whos purpose is SOLELY to kill a person. You need to be seriously vetted to determine that, then trained to make sure you know how to use it responsibly.
Look at crime statistics in the US, and compare them to other countries. I'm not just talking michael-moore-esque statistics, but entire crime statistics. You'll see the US is way up there.
Guns are the problem. Inept, dumb police are more of a problem, as if they did their jobs correctly, no non-cop would need a gun.
Guns don't help anyone. Certainly not if they're being used by some guy off the street. People get attracted to the power they think they have from guns. They get the whole rambo mentality going on. In real life, that doesn't lead to anything good. Just dead innocent people in the street.
I know if I'm ever in trouble, the last thing I want is a gun. The first thing I want is a cop.
The white earphones are absolutely awful. I ditched mine after 4 seconds, when I realised they have no bass, crappy mid-range and worse treble. They're included with the ipod unit to make it functional out-of-the-box, but not increase the unit price (as they cost $.50 each to manufacture).
If you think they're "good", go check out a selection at your local electronics shop - you'll soon realise how crap the white ones are.
At least read about DRM before you get all antsy about it. You don't have to use DRM even if your computer is DRM-compliant. You can turn it off whenever you want. Remember how the Pentium-ID was going to be the ultimate privacy-killer? Except you turn it off in the BIOS. Welcome to DRM - it's the same deal. Sheesh.
Exactly. We went on in there on the moral highground. Now look what's happened - the US armed forces are acting like savage dogs. Great. Way to go, self-proclaimed "beacon of democracy". "Leaders of the free world", my ass. What a joke.
Oh - you mean the terrorist camp where those people just got married? The ones on the video, singing and dancing, with no armed people around? Those damned terrorist weddings. With their evil love. damn them!
If you still think it was a terrorist camp, there's no hope for you. You're hooked up to the pentagon's big propaganda wiener, and you're stuck on there good.
"The US (and most other nations) is a nation that obeys the Geneva Convention."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!! HAHAHAHAAAA!! OOOH! HAHAHAAAAAAA! That's a GREAT one! Seriously! Wow. That's the funniest thing I've heard all week. Thanks for brightening up my friday.
You seriously believe that, do you? What about gitmo, what about the prisoners being abused in iraq? That apache gunner shooting an injured man? I mean, those are just three occurences of actions blatantly against the Geneva Convention HAPPENING RIGHT NOW, yet I guess we all must be mistaken.
It's not hard to see who's right in this situation. After the US has "busted heads" in iraq, who picks up the pieces? Exactly. No-one. The US soldiers aren't trained for it. The US contractors over there are too busy looking for lucrative contracts or sticking broom handles up iraqis to help the people.
Europe knows that a military force has to be responsible. It has to be able to clean up any mess it makes, as quickly as possible. It has to know that civilians are to be respected (Wedding party, anyone?). It seems that the US military machine knows nothing of this. It seems to be happy sitting in iraq, killing innocent people, buggering others with cleaning implements, and not helping anyone. great.
And look how well it's doing. Iraq's going smoothly... Afghanistan is peaceful... Osama Bin Laden is singing the Star Spangled Banner every 15 minutes like clockwork, and everyone loves George W. Bush.
Big army != good army.
Fast training != good training.
Good kit != good soldiers.
If what you said was true, the US army would be the best in the world. They clearly aren't. What gives?
Wake up, mate - it's already happened. The US is so dependent on technology to do its military job it's unbelievable. It's the only explanation for the ridiculously poor job the boys have been doing in Iraq. Of course, it's the whole institution (the ethos of "what looks good must be good" runs deep - "shock and awe" anyone?).
US soldiers need to be exactly that - soldiers. Not just idiots in humvees. Take them out of their cosy humvees and attack helicopters, and they're as menacing as a class full of schoolgirls.
Don't kid yourself every US soldiers is a John Rambo waiting to happen - most of them in Iraq are scared and want to come home. Better training would have lessened that considerably.
It seems the pentagon equates soldiers' ability with how much kit they carry, and how expensive it is. The US army carries the most expensive kit of any standard army in the world, yet is nowhere near as effective as any number of other armies. Makes you think, huh?
They've already said they're going to use DRM. The Creative Commons license doesn't extend to foreigners, as they haven't paid their license fees. We pay our fees, we own it. All you other guys can go to the BBC's online shop and buy it there:)
DRM will be used to ensure the copies only play in Britain. How successful that is, I don't know, but there has to be some protection there, as the BBC is cool.:)
Don't equate DRM with closed-source. Just 'cos the beeb is working on lots of open-source stuff, doesn't mean they don't want to (rightfully) protect their/our property.
The encryption method they used to encrypt the password over the network is absolutely laughable. Using a packet sniffer on our network, I managed to grab the password TeleVantage uses to get to its DB. Secure it ain't.
How on earth is that insightful?? Muslim extremists want to be left alone. They don't want US troops running around their country, pissing on their shrines, riding around in Humvees killing wedding guests, wearing Oakley sunglasses and waving US flags around like jocks. They don't want Americans forcing the American(tm) way of life down their throats. They don't want to kill anyone, they just feel they have to to survive.
You want to end terrorism? Get the US to act like a normal country. Don't go running all over other countries as if they were second-class. Learn respect for other people. You don't win friends by beating them up.
It frustrates me so much when I hear people saying the terrorists want to "destroy america" because they "envy our freedoms" or "hate democracy". I mean come on - think about it for one second. Sheesh.
Muslim extremists just want to be normal muslims. Normal muslims just want to get on with their lives, like normal everyone-else-on-this-planet.
America has done more to cause terrorism than any other country has in recent years, possibly ever. You want to know who the bad guys are? They're on your team.
Just got to add this in here - that's not the normal operating procedure for windows. On linux, however, installing most software involves the command prompt at one stage, at least.
I'm not a pro-microsoft/anti-linux guy (heck, I'm using linux right now), but let's not ignore serious shortcomings in the OS we love...:)
It does make him a bad President. There is a seperation between church and state, remember? Every time he mentions religion in a personal context, he's breaching it, and ceases to represent all those of other faiths. If he wants to sing the praises of Jesus, become a priest.
I wrote an object-oriented PHP class to handle tag information. It would be very, very trivial to modify it to work on remote files, even doing it efficiently (seeing as it has all the code necessary to read in tag lengths, etc).

and anything's changed?
Unless you're on Fox, in which case you just have to shout and be rude.
I feel for you, but you lost my support when you "set my threshold to -1". That's where you went wrong, buddy.
Like, to install a nic and copy the game to a computer that can play it? You need AGP graphics for the latest games, not PCI :-P

It looks like you're trying to sodomize a prisoner with a cleaning implement... Would you like help?
Exactly. We went on in there on the moral highground. Now look what's happened - the US armed forces are acting like savage dogs. Great. Way to go, self-proclaimed "beacon of democracy". "Leaders of the free world", my ass. What a joke.

'nuff said.

ID3v2 tags are very interesting, in my opinion :)
It can be anywhere from 20bytes up to hundreds of KB. iTunes writes particularly wasteful ID3 tags, which are nearer 4KB.
There is a negative offset... it's called "content-length"-50 :)
