and seems a bit of a scenester. I mean come on, conducting orchestras, playing golf...can't i find a queerbot that just like coffee and conversation???! I mean with all the videos and pictures there's prolly a paris hilton style video on the way. Besides, though that one hour battery life is well above average for non-drug-using gay boys...it just wont satisfy my needs.
I mean, i dont need to read the technical specs to know that it produces sound. Hello? There should be any number of ways to simply hookin on the transfer of data at the software level or, failing that, just grab the actual output. It's not like it requires much processing power to rip it back into something non-copy-protected.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what google does in this space. Hotmail and Yahoo just aren't very high quality/consumer oriented. If google can provide a feature rich interface that doesn't focus on upsell to the user, then they could capture a lot of interest/visibility. Right now I rarely use online email services because of the UPGRADE NOW! spam and the primitive interface.
Damn, we might have to pay for education funds out of actual taxes instead of lotteries/gambling. We might have to stop relying on the desparate/low-middle class to fund social programs. I for one find this hilarious and deserved--I cant wait to see how the loss of income from this results in either a)raising taxes on the poor/middle class, b) raising taxes on the rich/multinationals, or c) a loss of services.
Random factoid...Did you know that people spend 20k + a year for private high schools in SanFran--and that's for a school that's just opening and has NO track record.
In other news, the whole 100 billion plus on terrorism is rather much. I'd rather take my statistical chances, live in the country, and have universal health care at a price tage of 80 billion a year, tyvm. Might encourage us to be better diplomats and saaaay stop funding a country run by a guy that admittedly let 100s of innocents be slaughtered. ding ding, yep thats israel, and dont take my word for it, ask the BBC.
The centrino tests/comparisons were heavily rigged (using 16 meg video ram for the comparison processor)...I recently tried to help a young friend buy a laptop, and while researching came across Intel notebook comparisons with what appear to be rigged tests. I was amazed at the obviously crappy centrino selling everywhere...
why are they using 16 megs of video ram?
This seems to be their common practice, as the tests they have up now seem to be a newer version of the ones I saw a few months ago.
With the cost of developing games decreasing and the quality of digital animation programs improving (maya, 3ds max, truespace), video games are helping change the way information and entertainment are delivered. It may be more on the animation side, but in 10 years we should be seeing kids/adults creating their own scripted movies/characters/interactive content. The only problem here is if regulation puts middle men in the way of content distribution. hopefully that doesnt happen, i would very much like to see a system where independent film/game/animation makers can actually get their content out to people instead of running around on the 'special' film festivals and such. i really think that the increasing market for games/computer generated content will help make a more inresting and diverse entertainment world.
and hopefully result in free view camera angles for my gay porn.
I always wanted to download a 61 meg jpg. It would have been better if it was gay pr0n. but i'm sure we'll get there some day...leave it to the pr0n industry to innovate...and microsoft to copy...hmm...i wonder if a 61 meg windows logon screen is on the way.
hopefully the meta-mod knows how to set to FLAT,No threading, oldest. if you're too lazy to actually look around before negative modding, you probably should be focusing on funny/postive modding instead. i.e. i don't believe anyone commented on the actual article vs the poster's spin (which expands upon the article's).
I don't mean to flame, but it seems like the poster has been 'infected' with the FUD. We really should be careful with words like steal for knowledge sharing/conversation... of course I believe the article used the term infect. I did a find for steal on the article...nothing...it seems like even here people are implicitly buying into the whole IP/I own all my 'original' ideas system. Sigh.
Please PLEASE folks, don't get infected by what other people have to say, just go back to watching CNN and FOX News and...consume consume consume!
actually, try delaware, one of the worst abusers of tax avoidance. _if_ the international community would actually crack down on shelters, a lot of these abuses would go...but noone wants to provide information outside the US, especially when they can point at delaware and go 'well, why should we provide information about cororate tax shelters when you guys let them get away with murder in delaware?"
incorporate in delaware, you dont even have to have a business here
there are a lot of rude online gamers playing FPS games that either flirt/try to follow girl gamers around OR call them names. Sometimes the presence of a girl handle actually encourages better teamwork since letting boys know you'd rather play as a team than just go solo encourages them to do what the girl wants:) Personally, I'd like to see more girl gamers because they tend to be teamplay oriented and understand cooperation....whereas a lot of boys are dealing with their ego/competitive socialization issues online. Yes these are stereotypes, but i've been playing heavily for years and when I use a girl handle on a public server there are usually a couple of boys that actually start to play more as a team...its hit or miss though, sometimes you just get more shit. A final note...sex and rape in game talk seems to have waned a bit, a couple years ago there were a LOT of 'Dude, you got raped' comments...not exactly welcoming discourse to a population that is more frequently the victim of rape.
ender's game is also about child psychology in a very very dysfunctional society. in fact I think the main focus of the novel is growth and understanding of Other and self, not war itself, (card isn't a war/hard-sci-fi writer)...and Ender is traumatized for millenia (if i remember correctly) for his participation in the xenocide.
As to self-defense, that's a standard claim, one that ignores the history of US agression, the US supporting the violation of human rights. We would not 'NEED' this system if we weren't already at war for profit over people. Read the times op-ed today by Noam Chomsky, not something u see every day...
"It is a virtual reflex for governments to plead security concerns when they undertake any controversial action, often as a pretext for something else. "
i wholeheartedly agree.
seriously. come on, the CIA/FED has been screwing around in foreign countries, funding coups, shipping weapons, and generally encouraging anti-american anti-capitalist backlash instead of funding diplomacy. and people here are posting in support of this stuff. wake up and smell the maple nut crunch.
fear and terror makes money --it funds the military industrial complex and helps slow growth of other countries by allowing us to continue destabilizing them economically and politically. Cuba anyone? This is a control mechanism that will be used to reduce citizens rights and dissent in the US, not just to hunt terrorists. and it will perpetuate the OH NO the TERROR ALERT WENT UP! paranoia because all it will find is false positives anyway. it's about as useless as stoping cars at an airport to make sure they dont have explosives. hello, we'd hit a school, tyvm.
just like you are a consumer now (not a customer). it's part of the process of convincing people/marketing to people that businesses are people. that business is part of everyday life and that they can be hurt unjustly just like people. Unfortunately, business rarely die due to terrorism (bankruptcy/insurance anyone), and they dont have to rely on trial lawyers when their rights are infringed. By suggesting that hurting business one is commiting an act of severe violence the media/business community continues to expand the view of businesses as everyday 'people' when in fact they are their own class of immortal citizens (i believe i stole that from chomsky, shrug)
the amount changes/restriction created without congressional approval is a bit disturbing. I recently read that the FDA banned non-THC maryjane in food products for six months before a lawsuit made it through the courts to overturn the ruling. The judge said something about banning poppyseed on bagels while they were at it:) Interestingly enough we import all our hemp from canada and elsewhere...

i mean, do NPR or PBS really combat the corporate controlled distribution and content creation systems? We live in a country where people go apoplectic because an independent wants to RUN for office. perhaps we could drop leaflets about instant run-off voting over washington dc.
So some may transition. the cs programs were a travesty imho... I went through a university CS program (30 hours of coursework) on top of my other degrees (non technical english/gender studies) and got a job doing developer tech support on proprietary software. Got out of that after I realized that a good portion of the engineers were idiots (this was 2001)-- I was dealing with small and large consulting companies. A lot of the people coming out of any CS programs and in the work force didnt seem that bright or that dedicated to doing a good job. My next job for two years involved programming customization->application dev->product dev. All in all, the people that did a good job were worth the money...some of them had MAs and PhDs...few quality people didn't...there was only one very good engineer that was self taught, and he did our JSF-like implementation. I'm an average to above average developer, not a superstar, but I recognize quality, and all in all, I think the majority of CS programs and the little certificate programs produced a labor force that just wasnt well educated or well prepared. And mgmt of software development and engagements seemed just as questionable. very little quality control and very little preparation for the real business world/processes hurt confidence in software development and investment on both the mgmt and engineering side. Anyway, im rambling, but while there certainly was a lot of money involved in choosing to outsource, I must say that one of the big problems in the US was the cost + the lack of quality. and these schools certainly didnt help on the quality side.
allright mods...this is called SARCASM and it gets a +1 funny, not insightful.
" has so much money left over after ensuring it's people have the best healthcare, lowest crime and best education "
we ARE the only major 'industrialized' country without universal healthcare and the bush administration just clarified that hospitals could actually give discounts to the uninsured. why? i dunno...probably because all the insurance companies were complaining that they had negotiated discounts and that the uninsured didnt deserve them o_O
I'm sorry, I find it a clear case FOR anti-trust issues that microsoft, a SOFTWARE company (mice dont count imho), has the gall to say that they will gladly bundle a CD with our new HARDWARE. If this happened before a judge and that judge were me: Excuse me? Your market control is so deep that you can influence hardware distribution? Is this already included in your contracts with every existing pc hardware manufacturer or did you contact all of them individually before making this settlement offer?
It's kinda sad that they can even try that. Content production/distribution monopolies have already ruined the movie and cable industry imho...it's not surprising it's in the computer industry...but it's a wee bit more blatant.
I'm amused that some people think this helps them catch corporate catch cheats. It doesn't. Many of them are serenaded into a state with subsidies and tax breaks anyway. Even if they weren't, tax shelters are so prevalent and hard for the IRS to track down that it's estimated that 50-80 billion a year (nationally) is lost to corporate tax evasion. You could fund free health care with that. But you can't, not until the government chooses to get tough on tax evasion... and to pull that off means they either also have to get tough on importers (workers rights/health care/environmental laws in other countries) or stop the running Free Trade joke and have a more protective economy.
only recently have we been getting studies 'proving' the toxicity of agent orange. The traditional defense that our government had used to protect itself from lawsuits from the innocent civilians in South Vietnam and vets: "What poison?". So the government has blocked/failed to fund research for many years.
People are rightly terrified of us military applications of technology because the us military A) frequently fights the weak as opposed to the evil for political or economic gain (thereby supporting the military industrial-complex) B) has a history of human rights crimes and supporting human rights abusers. And technology makes this more easy and harder to defend against.
It's not propoganda...read the bland-old-bbc...as a less personal start for most US citizens, u might want to read the timeline about Israel and the Palestinians. What you read in the news gives a very biased pro-Israel perspective imho. Not surprising since we invest heavily in the Israeli military.

I live in san francisco, and if I'm in the park, reading a book, and someone has some long business conversation on their cell at anything over a whisper, i'd zap him. period. Why? because s/he doesnt need to talk above a whisper on his cell phone. because it's a park and if he needs to do business he can go back to his office.
