Whoah... It thinks? This is a major developemnt - I must return to my battery lab!

It was a close call when one day down the local tavern a friend of mine tried to give me his MSN ID. I grabbed him by his big fat head and said:
"Listen, foo - you either learn to use IRC or get a damn ICQ # 'cos I ain't talkin' no jibba jabba to any Murdock foo on MSN and I ain't gettin' in no passport ID foo, foo!"
He later revealed he had spike my pint with crystal meth.

Isn't it possible for any app which really wants to phone home to piggyback something which probably does have access through 99.9% of windoze firewalls (namely IE)?
This is the reason I used mozilla on windoze and denied access to any win processes which weren't absolutely necessary.
Not because of warez, you understand - simply a precaution. *cough*

Having dumped Winwads this week (almost) entirely for Linux I tried a couple of distros. Mandrake was a hell of a lot easier for me to set up than SuSE (purely because of all the stuff SuSE didn't do for me like stick all my windoze drives in /mnt/ or install X without accounting for the fact my monitor is old and doesn't do 1280x1024@60Hz...) I know SuSE has a reputation for quality (and I'm sure it's justified) but Mandrake's reputation for friendliness is also justified - with a bare minimum of fuss here I am using thye web on Galeon. I guess Mandrake's market is Windoze abandoners like myself who don't know how to compile a kernel (yet) but want to get away from M$ edamware - there are more of us out there so Mandy should expect a jump in sales (or server bills ;-)
