Don't get me wrong, I am linux user myself, my post merely said I agree with the author on that point. I do see it as an advantage to be able to "roll your own" and optimize, however I think that it is tricky to say that the combination of a linux kernel and GNU constitutes a platform. Not a single distro out there is just that. There is always a mish mash of other things, which may or may not work like a charm, my point is just that making an application work on system X doesn't mean it will work on system Y. This in contrary to platforms like MacOSX and Windows where the application will (most likely) work as expected on different installations of the platform.
If GNU/Linux was a platform, in the sense that MacOSX or Windows 2003 was a platform then how come you need to recompile software depending on your distro or hardware ?
LOL!! Shoot Osama into space, well actually it sounds good to me!!
*osama*
By the goat of all goats! I am in space!! Look at my yellow speedos!!
*spaceman spiff*
oh.. brother here we go again..
*robot*
~danger! will robinson!~
In addition to the limited facilities there may also be the question of the structural stresses of having a shuttle docked for significant periods of time. ISS would need to use more fuel to maintain proper orbit, if at all possible with a full size shuttle attached, and this may not be a safe option to have ISS maneovering with the Disco hooked up. Better to dump Disco and twirl about on your own.
What is Ian on about??? Ubuntu is the best thing that could happen for Debian, just think about it, Debian and it's philosophy was heading the way of the dodo!! Untill Ubuntu it looked like the universe had linux slated to be pay-ware like RedHat and Suse!!! Then came Ubuntu and challenged that model with good ol' fashion free as in beer and speech software!! I think Ian owes Mark alot and when he realises that it will be for the better.
As for (k)ubuntu, I like it alot and I am coming from RedHat/Fedora/Yellowdawg so it is a big jump. I am just waiting for it to install on firewire drives for Ppc platform!! Can't wait for that!!
If debian is to play a role in furthering linux and gnu then really they should take a lesson from ubuntu and indeed Knoppix and start driving the development rather than surfing it.
Buy a box with linux pre-installed if you don't want to geek out. Yellowdoglinux has a whole pile of em..
if I could only get kubunu onto my external firewire disk though...
Oh man.. I thought I was an old man.. Wargames...
*artificial voice*
Would you like to change a grade?
*student*
Heck no! I want thermonuclear warfare!!
Many tld administrators force this. Almost all european countries tld's are like this. Ok, it's a bummer when you get harvested and spammed but Nobody checks the street address, the neighbours must get a shitload of mail.. ROFL!! And if I want privacy a short visit to the chamber of commerce and Bullshit Limitid is in business and guess what, they operate from the same freaky neighbour!! ROFL!!!
just kidding but hey, if it helps stop spam and crapsites then I am all for it.
Duh.. and a system where you use social security numbers and birth dates as password hints??? c'mon.. this is silly.. But what a dumb chick eh? As if the professors wouldn't notice the change in passwords let alone a grade from F to B+!!! Unless the original exam material is in the same system it serves no purpose to change grades because they always have the original paperwork and class notes. And in addition to all this stupidity she didn;t even consider concealing the IP address..
This is not a "hack"!!!! She didn't exploit any technological weakness, only stole data giving access to a system.
Oh I am with you on that 100%!!! 512mb is a minimum!!! Anything less and OSX gets a headache, should've mentioned that in my original post!
Konqueror and Kate
ee, I just got Fink to try out my favourite linux apps but I keep getting dcopserver errors... can't even fire up quanta, you got your packages from fink or did you compile?
I mean, if you have to compile newer versions of code because the distro has years old stuff that's no-longer supported -- in essence recompiling the entire distro
it's open source, are you part of the problem or part of the solution?
Apple's OS software tends to get faster with every release
Funny how that is eh? Windows and even Linux seem to get boggier every release but I must say that OS X runs faster each release! When a buddy o'mine popped panther onto a 600 mghz G3 Ibook it actually speeded up!! ~impressive~ maybe if Tiger keeps up the trend the old machines will be interesting again! LOL!!
As for the Mini being adequate, considering that it's the samme guts and glory as my Ibook 12 inch, I must agree, the performance is fine especially considering the price and software bundled.
ROFL!
I'll concede that my info is second hand but it comes from someone who claims to have worked in DPRK. Of course they could be secret agents in the employ of Dr. Evil but I'll bet not.
as for me being a consumerican, not me, I ain't no seppo.

and in other news.. The EU parliament shows leniency to the council on the issue of Patent directive....
What? You wanna wait till they spam pearl harbour before you do anything about it??
oh no and they've drilled into my moho.. umm.. mojo...

In my experience their hardware does remind me of Mr. Coffee...
In EU it is the same.. and we're freakin' next to Ireland where they supposedly make the puppies..
