Yes, the guy who got a neighbour to give up her dog due to noise and then had a rush job done on his house extension with lots of power tool noise at night especially. Living in an area that used to be cheap suburbia with relatively old houses that has suddenly become trendy means a lot of construction noise and a lot of self-important arseholes parking the trophy car under the trophy house while going around telling everyone how important they are - and driving like fucking maniacs.

Anyway, my point is noise is an external thing with a lot of potential sources and the cowards that talk of killing dogs to cut down the noise sicken me.

As for Carter, to be honest most of what I know about him came via political cartoons and Dave Barry (especially the White House "dumb ray" theory where a former nuclear engineer came off sounding as stupid at times as you are pretending to be by equating a big chunk of the world's population with citizens of Iran)

The Carter efforts for rescue were likely directly sabotaged

A lot of people knew about them so the list of suspects starts in Iran and goes through many middle eastern states before it even touches anyone who is supposed to be loyal to the USA, although the political backchannels into military and spooks at the time were a worry. Sabotage of the negotiations was overt on the other hand and probably the origin of the "we don't negotiate with terrorists" line that was uttered so often by those that even funded terrorists.
You seem to be suggesting that Carter was the last President that treated citizens with honesty and that led to his downfall, if so I agree with you. Slick expensive PR with a vision of perfection seems to have beaten the imperfect truth.

  20. Test that theory by doing a "DR Test." Turn everything off for two days and see what happens.

What would happen is the bill for fuel would go through the roof and a lot of people would complain about that noise - and that's if everything works perfectly. Running for a few hours is a different situation.

On the point of tests there's a 20MW generator I saw (old jet engine) which was tested every month for about 20 years without many problems. On the one day in it's life that it was needed (to get coal conveyers and sootblowers running on a small city based power station unit when the local grid had gone down) it didn't work. You need two of everything. Fortunately stuff in the kW range is nowhere near expensive to duplicate (and about 100 times less noisy!).
