It was annonced that VA tech actually purchased the G5 X-serves before production was in place, but were instead delivered the G5 towers as loaners to have the cluster built in time for ranking.
The cluster remains, they have not shut it down and were swapping out individual racks for the upgrade.(something like one rack of X-serves is three racks of towers.
I don't think it's been published that they have or haven't ran any data besides benchmarks.
I think this is the best method too. The biggest upside to using the hosted DNSes is speed of propagation. It's nice to have local control, but anyone who has had to update a DNS knows the pain of not getting that update to occur for the customer because thier ISP doesn't get updates fast enough. The further you can get your changes upstream, the better off you are.
I didn't think I had a problem with the DRM either. Well I don't BUT...
At work they recently firewalled off the connection to iTMS so I can't auth my work PC to play my own purchased m4p files. Using playfair I was able to convert them to m4a, post them to a website of my own and then I can play them from any web browser.
I have no interest in sharing the files except with myself. I paid my 99 cents each, if you want them you can do the same. But I found myself being a hypocrite on the matter. I SAY that I support thier DRM, but I found a reason that made me want to circumvent it, damn network admins!
I submitted this story last night when I found that the project got pulled (like 1930 EST), but at the time it had not been re-upped anywhere. I quickly URL searched a mirror for links and grabbed the 0.3 tarball and the compiled Mac OSX dmg GUI version.
I'd be glad to give this to someone with a mirror. I won't host this for a slashdotting:)
IIASCA != Audiophile But anyway... you have a system that runs in about 20-40 cubic feet. Plus you sit 3 ft from your subs (you never even hear a full note from your subs, the wavelenght to too large). All you are getting is a massage at that distance.
This stereo is filling at least 32000 cubes. And it's not rattling the crome.
I bought TurboTax Basic, as I do every year. (I guess I didn't have my tinfoil hat last year) I opened the box, took the CD out of the paper sleeve, installed it, and started my taxes. They have been finished and printed a month ago.
I didn't bother to look at any of the papers inside, so a quick check... There is no Key or serial number.
Just how does a hash of my hardware lock an install to one PC?
Once you've signed with one of the big labels, you've practically signed your soul over to the devil. You no longer control your music, and if you don't put out so much music over a certain period, you either lose your contract or you're fined.
That's the price you pay for wanting to make a buck from playing music using someone else's leverage and power. If an artist really wanted to just freely share thier music, they'd just play live for free or post thier music on P2P tools directly. Pandora's box can't be closed.
If you continue to share files that the RIAA is guarding as thier own copywrited material, then you should be prepared to "fight for your ideals".
RIAA has already demonstrated that they are able to target, sometimes missing, and harrass users of file sharing programs. Then force them to settle for fairly large fees (for a student anyway). They have been able to accomplish this within, but not always with the support of, US law.
I think your are being a bit shortsighted suggesting everyone jump off the same bridge as you.
This seems correct, that these AAC files are just "pre ripped" files. interesting that 50% of the slashdotters didn't seem to catch that.
I'm not surprised that there are little or no ways to play DVD-Audio disks on PCs. They (RIAA and artists) don't want the HQ music files to get pulled off there, this is why they are offering low-fi versions.
I don't shop for DVD-Audio, but they have racks of them at BestBuy and Tower Records.
Wait! You mean I can't listen to all those songs I got for free on iTMS? I found a bunch of pepsi caps in the office, and downloaded a bunch of songs. I even bought some while I was browsing the store.
Oh never you mind. I am using and listening to them just splendidly thankyouverymuch, and I didn't even need to get a CD or boil eGGs.
Would this really burn up? Skylab was less than 50ft long and hollow inside. Many of it's parts made it to the ground. I'd image a solid rock hitting our atmosphere at that speed would not lose too much mass on the way in and do some pretty significat damage if it hit near a populated area.
Nothing a manager hates more than a person who is at work, but is instead managing 2nd and 3rd jobs from his cell phone all day. Well except for maybe the guy that doesn't come it on time.
What exactly are you sending to your mom that you need to hide? This seems to be a major point that you "almost" agree with. I have nothing to hide from people that need to know, Sure I don't want you to have my CC# and copy of my signature, but I don't worry about the FBI getting it. If you feel the need to encrypt something so that the govenment can't review it later then maybe you are hiding something they should look at?
How many times does MS get berated on/. for security through obscurity, and not letting anyone and everyone review their IP. Information wants to be free right? Instead of encrypting, send all your emails out with copywrite licence. Then it can't be reproduced for the courts. Don't use GPL, then they can just alter your words!
So why whould domain.wipo more official than my PREVIOUSLY registered domain.com/.org/.net that I have had in place for 5 years? Meanwhile the same someone quickly snapped up domain.m to further try to redirect mobile users ability to surf my site.
I really don't see how this is a good idea at all. Making up unlimited top levels is a huge pain in the ass. For anyone out there with an original (not common) domain name and matching company name this makes securing legit traffic and users to your own site very difficult. Used to be you could get the.com.net.org wrapped up. This will be a nightmare for comanies that are trying to keep people from spoofing domains. This is stuff that should be managed in house, like yro.slashdot.org mac.slashdot.org etc.

You could always blindly elect not to support the companies that are locking you out of the BIOS and other DRM technologies. Or look into what they are trying to accomplish.
As a Sysadmin for a corperation these kind of tools are great, but as a power user I wouldn't want this at home. There will always be vendors that provide parts for the tinkerer. They might be at a premium due to low volume sales, but them's the breaks.
Actually I watched a show last night and they Highlighted the Red Team's Vehicle. After watching the show I was given no idication of any other competitors, but they didn't provide any reasons why the Red Team might not finish. Hell, after what I watched I'm wondering if any other teams are really even playing the same game... That is one high priced Hummer.

In the ~5 days it was listed on sourceforge it was the #4 top downloaded project when it got pulled.

I would have to 1) have an iPod, and 2) be able to bring it into work + connect it to a PC via USB2.0
I may or may not fit both of these criteria, but I found that publishing my own personal downloads was better for me in my current enviroment.
I didn't think I had a problem with the DRM either. Well I don't BUT...

I haven't rented a porn or bought a smut mag in 8 years, not since I found free porn on Newsgroups and later P2P.
Maybe P2P does not affect my music purchases, but my porn allowance has dropped to zero while my consumption has gone... um... up?
Wait a min.

This wouldn't be a lemmon, a single item would need to have failed 3 times.
How am I able to make any kind of informed comment on slashdot without a prerequisite groklaw.net article?
Who would try to embed some secret information in an XML file Didn't MS get a patent on XML file formats that have data encrypted inside them?
