What do you think other users felt like with all those options there? Everytime you include a checkmark or radio box in preferences, you're forcing the user to make a choice. Sometimes choices are bad. Have you looked at IE6 preferences?
How did they ruin GNOME? I actually like having less stuff in my way. Of course, when I fused GNOME with FVWM, I guess that put me in a very small minority, come on. Do you want to actually wade through useless options to find what you really need? Most of them AFAIK are still available through gconf as well. They just took the UI element away for the n00bsters in the crowd, which I actually like.
And microsoft did everything it self? TCP controls came streight from BSD. And lets not mention all the buyouts that MS used to "incorporate" technology. And the X-Window system was around for a while before MS came out with "Windows". I've always wondered about that. MS has done little for itself, as well.
How about the GNU foundation, and the Linux kernel. They actaully are to seperate entities. Together, the wonderpowers activate to create the GNU/Linux Operating System.
Yes, but the difference is that they will still let you boot into windows (providing you with an option). While I honestly never tried getting WindowsXP's bootloader to work, the fact that I was never asked a question was alarming.
Amen, brother (The office bit). All these new Office versions just seem like a new UI to learn to me. The one worth buying is the one that comes with a real grammar check that actually works.
Wow...intellectual property. That's great. Too bad that we didn't have e=mc2 registered as "intellectual property" or who knows where we could be today?
Yeah, but its not hard to create the equivilent of a shellscript for that...its a doohickie thing that looks like an invention out of Dr. Seuess' books.
All this guy has to do is to collect enough money before anti-virus people figure out the fix, or someone figures out how to trace it. All of a sudden, he has his laywer fees paid for. Its like the Microsoft thing all over again.
I got a BSOD the very day I installed WindowsXP. Still running their default drivers for video card before anyone says "bad drivers". I tried to change the screen saver. BSOD. I knew at that point we'd never get along, and 6 months later linux was installed. Only problem was when I overclocked that very card. And then the effect was much more pretty.

I think it comes down to C vs sh. If its more complex than sh can handle, start it up with C. Of course, I don't maintain large projects, that's my $0.02.

This is "low impact" in the same way that a tornado is an air current.

In Linux, you can stick the sticky bit on the executable to circumvent that, but yes. That was the fault of the program, not MS.

w00t! Nothing like coding in m4!
I had the Sega Channel and that was awesome. its demise may have been closly tied to Sega's. Nintendo always did have the leg up on popularity.

How the hell was parent marked "interesting"?
How's "free from expensive licencing"?
I GNU there'd be someone who'd question our free superiority!
Wow. It seems like South Park was right. Canada does suck almost as much as the US.

No, it will be done in wordpad.
How do you not set it up correctly? You hit the install button! Then accept the agreement, giving your firstborn to MS.

It was some ini file you had to change. I can't remember which one though. I had black w/ red letters. Impressed my friends when it crashed, it did.
Yeah. If you really wanna have some fun, do a "cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dildo" for hours of fun!
Except /. dupes! ...okay, is it old yet?

I've got firefox pulling on 19MB. Perhaps you should submit a bug, so that the leak can be found.
