The thought of the gov't simply filling ouy a form to login "as me" anywhere is chilling... imagine your email etc... if your email provider, online message boards etc. allowed for, or even required this... at least with open-id I choose the source for authentication.
Well, I've experienced plenty of documents that pull in real-time data for a portion of the document... unfortunately Flash is commonly installed as a "safe for scripting" active-x plugin in windows... I prefer simple pdf viewers, and don't open unexpected attachments... I really would just prefer that there were two differing extensions for such "interactive" documents, opposed to read-only, no interaction...
Any app written in vb6 should run fine in an emulated environment , I would expect a modern arm 1.2ghz cpu to run around a 400mhz pentium-2 comparable speed common when vb6 was king.
I'm guessing with 8 they'll dump direct support for a lot of legacy apps, and on x86 have some transparent (to the user) vm for sandboxed legacy app support... Most new apps will probably target.Net...
other than floss ports to windows and some games.., I can't think of many apps that aren't in.net recently (or other portable platforms, java, python, ruby etc) over native apps... as long as the api support is good,.net aps should be a sinch... Time to double-down on Unity Technologies, I would say...
I know this is meant to be funny, but I'm guessing anything beyond hardcore and driver development will be done in.Net or something similar to google's web-app concept... This isn't a bad thing perse, but as android's increased popularity has shown, end user installed malware can be more than effective on a system without root priv's, and some firewall and av protection is probably very prudent still.
Well, XP had some sort of similar attempt... to be honest, imho the most successful windows market is the Steam system... which if Valve came out with, or extended Steam for general applications, they would be in a far better position for success... perhaps a buyout of Steam from Valve from Amazon would be helpful as well, though not sure I trust Amazon enough now.
My problem with integrated viewers, is it makes it a pain to just get a save-as dialog... At least half of the time I get a PDF, I want to save it for later..
Depends on which android based phone you get.. some may be more locked down than others... and with the Nexus S only on T-Mobile for US and looks like AT&T is buying T-Mobile, I'm jumping ship to verizon (better than AT&T) in a couple months when my contract is up... need to find a power user friendly android phone for the big V (Motorola phones need not apply)
I'd be all for eliminating rights of an individual to companies in leau of eliminating taxes on corporations so long as they don't hold over more than 5% of said companies value or $10 million whichever is higher for more than 5 years in a row. Re-invest or pay out dividends to investors... then nuke corporate tax structure. Would certainly make things more likely to see as taxable earnings from corporations...
I'm pretty close to that... I tend not to buy sony label products, and let people I know also know that I do as such.... I think what really needs to happen is pressure to break sony corp up in order to sell products in the US.. of course they own like 40% of big media, so that would be a hard sell.
It doesn't even take rooting an OS.. though it does help to prevent being removed by AV programs later... a trojan can be installed with user permissions and run by the user's desktop when said user is logged in... It doesn't take root, but helps... on non-windows OSes, most users aren't running any kind of AV scans which would make it easier.
1. Build Java(cross-platform) puzzle game/clone
2. Inject email spamming software into the game.
3. Send billions of spam...
4. Profit!
I fervently disagree... I would consider myself fairly pragmatic with some libertarian ideals. I find that it isn't practical to completely revert to the constitution, but do find the current levels of taxation, and bloat in government to be more inhibiting than progressive. Bureaucracy breeds inaction. I do find it is the role of government to provide for defense and common infrastructure. It is the limits of what can be considered essential common infrastructure that is open to interpretation. However, I do feel that a government that was more limited with that POV would work out better. Neither the dems or repubs really support that and the groups you mention above are very far from describing me.
What are you talking about... redhat customers will get patches... it's just the source for back-ported patches will e a little harder for Oracle to rip & apply
I don't think they are going to reduce their infrastructure... however, I refuse to be an AT&T customer, my contract is up next month, so may be moving over to Verizon. T-Mobile's customer service has always been a lot better than my experiences with AT&T.
As mentioned above, the transaction isn't the only operational cost.. covering fraudulent activity is a huge issue, unless you'd prefer to have individuals foot that bill...
First off, the actions of the elected don't always represent either the will of, or best interest of the people they are elected to serve. Secondly, it's possible for a majority to simply be wrong. Third, there are inherent rights that are not, and should not be governable without being a punishment for a crime (ex: incarceration). Just because a government *can* do something, doesn't mean it has, or should have a given right to. However, I tend to be very Pragmatic with Libertarian ideals.
To your second point, how would you suggest a prosperous country, such as the USA invoke population control over one with a greater need for it, such as say India? Other than War, which we have no place being in, I don't see how it would in any possible way be appropriate, even under more classical anthropological cases. We aren't in direct competition for scarce resources, and aren't in a territorial conflict.
If there were a safe way to introduce birth control hormones into the food supply, with an available counter-agent that didn't pose a risk of sterility, or overdose issues that might be a possibility... as long as the counter-agent were available to anyone who asked, also at tax payer expense, and the only people not eligible are those on government assistance for children they already have. This would probably be a relatively fair way to handle such a situation, however to my knowledge no such medication is available that would match given criteria to seed into the food supply. And allowing for those who want to have children the opportunity, with minimal restriction would be entirely necessary. Of course, you get into religious issues regarding more puritan sects.
In any case, the better path is increased education. Though we're such a spoiled society and our youth generally far less structured in education than in any recent history. Then again, widespread public education facilities is a relatively new concept as well.
Just the same, it isn't an appropriate role of government to control/limit breeding... And, again, those societies most out of control aren't the country I live in...

Yes, that's not so great either... however, letting DHS be your authentication source for your social networking comments isn't at all chilling.

You fool, there is no way a college could have existed in Cambridge before the revolution... everyone (GP included) knows that...
The key I miss the most is the vertical tab... give me that over media keys...

The fraunhoffer (sp) patents are royalty free for players... it's the encoders that they charge...

Ogg Rectum? Damn near killed him.
No, Thor. You insensitive clod!
