Well, if you're ever in the Phoenix area, that could be arranged.

In any case, my main point is that supporting a code base that hasn't been sold for over 4 years, and is 10 years from the original release doesn't really make sense to support from a practical stand point, especially when alternatives exist for the platform.

IIRC, the original observation was that the number of Transistors that could be placed on a given Integrated Circuit pretty much doubled every 18-24 months... I don't think it's held true to that timeline, as the process shrinks for die manufacturing haven't held quite that fast, and is approaching a point where interference from other points on a circuit is close to becoming an issue.

The point was that the limitation wasn't artificial, not that the reasons for said limitation have value. Considering the fact that Mozilla, Google, Apple and Opera are dedicating resources to hardware accelerated canvas and video support, it would seem that your assumption that t isn't necessary would be mistaken. As to MS not putting the effort to support their latest browser efforts to a decade old OS that hasn't been sold as a mainstream option in 4 years...

Boxee is the best for "internet" channels, but needs some tweaking, and I wish I could nuke the "social" aspects.. or at *LEAST* have it backup my added channels (and settings) if I have to login anyhow. For Live recording, it's a tossup, Media Center (Windows) does a good job with this, but outside of TV, I find that there are other options that do everything else better (though I honestly gave up since HD options for WMC were few and far between. I also wanted something like GameEX, but better online handling like Boxee... *sigh* It's not been an irritation enough, that using a combination of software bugs me enough to scratch my own itch in this space, but it is irritating to say the least.

Honestly though, it depends on the context of the application in question. If you are trying to do a quick data entry application, then there are existing UI features to use the OS's skin, and handle scaling. When it comes to games, it's a bit more complicated as sprites are much more per-device specific than other rendering/sizing options... perhaps having a multipack of sprites for different screen size ranges, or other options come into play. It's definitely more fragmented than most other scenarios. In games, we've come to expect that scaling will be handled by the underlying OS/Browser/Framework... in old-school consoles, and handhelds, there were fixed display sets, so using pixel based graphics was easier.

My main point of contention, is that outside of games/graphics/video, there is very little that even approaches difficult to do with the existing tools on the architecture, and most of the people griping aren't game, video, or graphics application developers.

I wouldn't go that far... all packets fo/from your client's endpoint should be treated equally.

Though, different users should be allowed to be given priority based on tiering and use... if User A checks his email a few times a day, and User B seeds a few dozen heavy torrents, then User A's packets should probably come before User B, based on usage alone. Beyond that, for a given user, there shouldn't be a differentiation based on the protocol, if there's encryption in place, or who it's going to/from.

The 2GB free account comes in handy enough, I use it to sync my application profiles and data between a few different systems (mac, win, lin). Good option for portable apps too (keepass, portable thunderbird, etc) I have a few other folders symlinked in my dropbox directory, and it works great.. local network syc & offsite backup. Not sure how well the truecrypt support is, but pretty cool imho.
