Having worked in a couple of call-centres, trust me. Some people really can be this heartless in real-life.

In my previous job, I had someone pretend to be calling from the hospital with news that the manager's wife was dying in hospital in a bizarre attempt to speak to them. Note sure what they expected.

Manager: Hi, my wife, how is she?
Caller: Oh, I was just joking about that so I could speak to you. Now, here are some problems I'd like fixed. Hello?.... Hello?

I think the ITC who regulated a lot of this were quite strict.

The ITC seems to have been replaced by ofcom and they say

16 (a) Product placement is defined for this purpose as the reference to a product or service within editorial material in return for payment or other valuable consideration to any ITC licensee (or any representative or associate of either). This is prohibited.

    (b) A reference to a product or service may be included in editorial material only where it is clearly justified by the editorial needs of the licensed service. This is not product placement but no undue prominence may be given to the product or service.

I can understand the tv companies not wanted to give free advertising. Imagine Pepsi paying for an advert slot during the break and then that show has a prominent Coke machine in the background for no good reason. This is pure speculation on my part. I don't work in tv, I just watch too much of it.

I think it's a common 'mistake'. Seems similar to the confusion over "Have your cake and eat it" (The modern version), and "Eat your cake and have it" (Closer to the original version of the quote). Although the former is more common, it's confusing. The latter and original makes more sense to most people.

it is a bit embarrasing though when you correct someone, rub it in a little and then realise that you're both sort-of right. Depends whether you speak English or American.

I think it's because the question is fairly easily answered. A trip to apple.com or a quick google should provide some concrete reasons why some consider Macs to be a good option.

The question itself is quite a simple one and the insulting way it was asked is probably why a mod decided it was just trolling. Your response here is hardly likely to change anyone's assumption that you were just trolling.

They also have pretty strict product placement rules. Some years back, if they had to show a shop in a show (such as Coronation Street), the shop would be stocked with these strange products you've never heard of. They even invented a fictional brewery who's name they used on the beer pumps.

This has been relaxed a bit but product placement is still restricted. As someone from the UK, I definitely place a fairly large amount of trust in their output - a lot more so than I would trust Sky News.

The lack of adverts is definitely good. It's amusing to watch some America shows, and count the number of times it fades between scenes and then shows a quick recap. Seeing as well, a tv show episode rippped from a US tv station as well amazed me. Seemed to be having adverts every 10 minutes.

Seriously, that theme tune is the kind of thing that dad plays when the wife and kids have gone out so he can remember the old days when he had a mullet and a bandana.

Orchestral music has a lot going for it and it seems to fit the genre better. Who can remember 2001 A Space Odyssey without remembering that blue Danube song from the docking sequence?

It's reasonably easy to find a half-decent kebab shop but when you find one that does a decent chilli sauce, oh yes you are one of the lucky ones.

Ah, that sensation of a fire in your mouth and the feeling of lamb fat on the roof of your mouth. I miss that now that I've moved to Ireland. Sure, you can visit Abrakebabra but their chilli sauce just tastes like tomato soup. It wouldn't even make a baby uncomfortable.

Trying to say I support slavery because I believe it legal protest is a knee-jerk child's response. Most laws have a moral purpose behind them, and when they don't you are right to oppose them.

I don't think it's possible to justify illegally using someone else's property. Let's get one thing straight here, I had and still have music that I downloaded, I'm not saying that I don't do it. What I don't do though, is try to justify it by saying "Damn those rich record companies".

Yes, you do make a reasonable point about a boycott being difficult. I still believe there has to be a legal way to settle this. Either through a boycott, joining a group lobbying for copyright reform or writing to your representitive in government.

That situation where there is a tax on CD-Rs and hard drives is completely wrong. I could understand a tax on tapes because, very few people seemed to buy tapes to record their own material.

Taxing CD-Rs is a pretty piss poor idea since CDs are clearly used widely for data backup and moving stuff around.

The record companies without a doubt do not deserve the amount of money they get, I completely agree with you there. I think widespread music copying is counter-productive though. Although you could argue that they don't need an excuse, it does provide them with one when record companies claim they need laws or DRM to protect their businesses.

Sharing music is a wonderful thing. I wouldn't be listening to half the bands I do if it weren't for browsing other people's MP3 collections. I can't justify that though, it is wrong and I'm probably being hypocritical here.

Call me old fashioned but I do believe in boycotting companies I disagree with and letting them know why I'm doing so.

If you believe that record companies make unfair profits, the way to combat that is to boycott their products, not to steal them. You can always look for indie bands.

Saying that you would not have bought the track anyway (and so they aren't losing a sale), is irrelevant. Just because you didn't think it worth paying for, doesn't mean it's okay to download it. Either you want it enough to pay for it or you don't want it.

If I don't think MS Office is worth the cost, does it make it okay for me to download it and use it for free? I was never planning to buy a copy, I just want to have it around for little projects.

Baldurs Gate (the first one anyway), didn't have MP capabilities out of the box but a patch was released later on to add MP. You can find it on version tracker.

True, some games lose something in the port but others have been improved. Features added to the Mac version that were not present in the original PC version. No examples come to mind but I know I have read this in the release notes of one of my titles.

I think games are important but not everything. Things have improved a lot over the past 5 years. I'm playing World of Warcraft, Call of Duty and Unreal Tournament 2k4 and have more games available for purchase than I could reasonably afford.
