    TFA is saying that one of the reasons the valley won't manufacture cars is because they'll have to import engineers from elsewhere since the ones already in the place are only qualified in microelectronics and aren't qualified in the heavy duty engineering needed for manufacturing.

    Silicon Valley's already full of imported engineers who were brought in to work as coders. I'm one of them. I don't see why they couldn't import the necessary skills. The valley is a very attractive proposition to someone living in India, or in England as was the case for me.

    Aren't you anxious to know if a really hot curry actually does emit neutrinos, or if it is hot because it somehow interacts with neutrinos?

    I was just wondering how far down I'd have to scroll to find some racist troll rolling out the traditional curry joke. Some people just can't comment on anything India-related without having a pop at their funny food, funny accent or funny customs, can they?

    Omigod, aside from the repetitive falling runway gag, that movie was full of so much bad movie physics it was barely watchable. Like the Antonov transport plane climbing like a Harrier Jump Jet, or the giant ship bigger than the biggest oil supertanker having a stopping distance of 200 metres instead of 50 odd miles. Then there's the infuriating driving for five minutes looking at everything except the road. That's just inexcusable bad acting.

    Wow, this is like the 4th Drupal book review on Slashdot in less than a year. I've never tinkered with it, but I've yet to talk to anyone who has had any problem getting it up and running, let alone needed a book. How about a few book reviews on something we aren't familiar with?

    The learning curve for Drupal was more than I could be bothered with. I ended up going with Wordpress and had my site up and running within half an hour.

    You could use the same business model that they used to colonize Australia. Prison guards would have to be well paid though. But it seemed to work out well for the Aussies. (Sucked for the Aboriginals, but that's less of an issue on Mars as far as we know.)

    Now I can rest easy, knowing that the folks in charge are focusing on the really important matters. It was just last night, I was jolted out of a nap in front of some program on global warming or something by an ad for American Idol...

    Does it ever cross peoples' minds that politicians sometimes get to take a break from the top-of-the-headline matters and legislate on the less prominent issues too? Somebody's got to regulate the finer details of broadcasting, road safety, food safety and other issues that don't go away just because there's a global financial meltdown brewing.

    Normally I'm pretty apathetic about political nonsense, but something about this story enrages me. This is just so unbelievably frivolous, but it sure will play well to the average voter who probably watches 40 hours of television a week and strongly agrees with the statement that "TV viewers should be able to watch their favorite programs without fear of losing their hearing when the show goes to a commercial."

    It's not that I'm especially fond of advertisers, it's just that I have trouble acknowledging a world where ANYBODY GIVES A FUCK about this "issue".

    Translation: "This doesn't bother me, so I don't see why it should bother anyone else."

    Typical slashdot "I am the only human being in the world" nonsense.

    We evolved here. Here is where we function optimally.

    We evolved in Africa. As the climate changed we decided it might be a good idea to spread out a little and try to adapt to living in a different environment. Result? We're still here after all this time. I'd like to think that we won't spend the rest of our existence with all our eggs in the single basket of Earth. Until we become a space faring race, we're one asteroid away from extinction. The sooner we diversify, the better off we're going to be.

          Trojan refers to the citizens of the city of Troy, which is now known as Truva, Turkey. There is not a Greek god "Trojan" nor "Troy".

        They were contemporary to the great Greek empires, but as I recall they were not themselves Greek. Well, we know how wars and domination during the period went, any particular place in the area could be under a variety of empires, and likely change empires frequently.

    He was talking about Zeus. "No cigar" indeed!

    Way to go double standard.

    It is odd that they allow personal blogs hosted on the corporate site complete with the logo and everything, although there is a disclaimer at the bottom:
