Great plan, but you know it won't be long before they tack on a $10-per-call 'Roaming' charge to your cell use..... It would be interesting it it indeed was 'free'.... Hmmm, on that note, wonder if it will be CDMA/TDMA or GSM -- GPRS at 30,000 would be cool!

Probably because we are cheap.... To get the goodies in a sub-notebook we would have to spend more. Isn't that against the law at FRY's or BestBuy -- the love BIG and CHEAP.
That said, Fry's does sell both the Sony and Fujitsu subbies...but they certainly don't have the selection you see overseas like in Japan. Wow, there is some killer gear over there... Check out www.dynamism.com, they retro-fit alot of the Japan only models with English OS's.
All I need is a great sub-notebook

Ok, I'm pretty easy to please I suppose. Here is my want-list for my personal 'computing device'
1. Small but high-resolution screen, big enough to work on an Office doc., widescreen to reduce scrolling (10-11", 1280x768ish)
2. Long Battery life, without a 20-cell monster battery -- 6-7 hours of steady office usage
3. 2 Spindles - Needs an integrated DVD player, I can't stand dongles or ouboard things to lug around
4. Connectivity, and lots of it. I would LOVE to have a universal-but-integrated power supply, so I don't require a 10lb brick to go with my 4lb laptop. Also, throw in integrated Modem, Wifi a/b/g, Bluetooth, GRPS(!) and IR for good measure.
5. Blueberry-like Push-Email capability... I would love it if I could stick a SIM card into my notebook and have it automatically update my email, without me having to completely power-up.
6. Light weight -- Less than 4 lbs, With all cables
7. Last but not least, it can't cost more than $2500....
Am I dreaming? Maybee not, the Sony TR3/5 and the Fuji P7010 are very close to what I would like.... Maybee next year.
So this means to take advantage of the latest security, I would again have to upgrade all my AP's and Clients... $ $ $
When will this whole industry be commoditized enough that we have 'soft' radios for wireless (Like AC97 Audio) that allow us more flexibility in upgrading older hardware to newer standards? Heck, with a true soft-wireless chipset we could use one RF device for WiFi and Bluetooth and whatever they dream up next...
Isn't this thought scary? With M$FT's push to get more and more Automotive applications for WinCE (or simmilar) could you imagine the impact of such an exploit? All of the sudden your vehicle stops responding, your dash fills with idiot-lights, and you are forced to pull-over and 'reboot':)
Actually I meant a little of both. Realistically, you need to deal in blocks of at least 100 shares to get a good market price -- if you try to deal your 5 shares, you are doing yourself a dis-service. Thus, mu comment of being out of my price range is more to the fact that I can't buy 100....
The problem is *IF* they can buy them back. At current rates, the existing shares are valued at arounf $1.12 per share -- With the IPO positioning the shares at $80 - $130, who in their right mind would sell back to Google?
Those shares are all fully-tradeable after September, so I truly beleive only a fool would sell back. I can see some lawsuits flying on this one.
Where did you hear about a Bluetooth Treo?! That is one thing I have been waiting for in the Treo before I make my next upgrade (Using a Tungsten W now, but not for the phone).
I've seen the new camera-less version from Sprint (great idea!), but haven't heard anything about new more-connected models...
I guess I just don't understand the target market for such a device. It's quasi-push email support isn't really corporate-ready (The inablility to directly connect to POP or IMAP servers stinks IMO, what do you do if you want to use it on another carrier down the road?).
Besides, this thing looks HUGE to me, not exactly a svelte device to slide in your pocket or clip to your belt. Ok, so maybee it is a cheap Treo or Blackberry, but if you are buying a device for robust email access and PDA functionality, then the extra money spent would be well worth it, wouldn't it?
Even as a gaming machine, the Nokia N-Gage would blow this thing away... not to mention the QD.
So my question is who cares? So what if this 'update' requires you to download a new binary -- I just appreciate the fact that someone is fixing things. I'm sure a 'patch' would have been nice if it was possible, but if its a new binary i need then so be it.
At least we don't need to wait a Month (or months) for M$FT to fix IE...
Yeah there are many other options, many available for free, but it was a nice slick interface. The DVD-X-COPY Xpress was a super-easy "1 Click" to copy and burn -- yeah even us Windows users could do it;)
Ah well, I guess I will have to try out some of the other sugestions I've seen here.
The software industry is becoming more and more like the hardware industry nowadays with the paper launches extremely premature.
2006 - That is a heck of a way off... Think that ATARI is lookign to stimulate its trailing stock price? http://www.stockhouse.ca/comp_info.asp?symbol=ATAR &table=LIST.... It wouldn't surprise me...
Yep the 5020 is a great little machine, I often get 8-9 hours on a single main battery.
Fujitsu just recently released the updated P7010 version, that ups the ante to 1.1Ghz, and is slightly lighter at 3.4lbs, and is in a more subdued 'corporate black' color.

What's next? Having your On-Star system auto-dial one of those Long-Distance scam numbers in Sao Tome? http://www.businessknowhow.com/newlong.htm
Maybee Disneys content-control stuff will help, but who knows.
Can you imagine how embarrased someone might be bringing their Lion-King PC in for service :)
(Anyhow, I do feel it is overpriced at $100)

That $13 could be put to good use (buying Slashdot subsctiptions of course) if I had it in my paws....

Summertime TV stinks, especially without TechTv :)
I can just see the 'pre-sell' boxes appearing in Best Buy and Fry's any day now.
I do agree, a great game IS worth waiting for.
