www.runbox.com - Runbox offers a bunch of domains (like FastMail), POP and IMAP access, interesting support of text-messaging notifications, lots of storage (including FTP file storage access) for a pretty low price.
I've been using them as a provider for many years now, and have been very happy with the service.
Just try to get through to Vonage Support now...

The End for Vonage?

I have had Vonage (Canada) for about a year, and up until today it has been pretty darn good. Can't beat the features/price with any other carrier up here.
Now, today of all days, my ATA won't connect... So I have to call support... Oh my. It must be bedlam over there, because after 5 calls, and over 2 hours on my cell phone, I could NOT get through to tech support. I can reach a human every time, but they can never assist me, and queue me up in a never-ending wait....
I guess it's time to make the jump to Packet8 or some other Voip supplier before the whole house of cards comes tumbling down. It may not be Verizon that kills them, but the stampede of their own customers panicing....
I dunno about what everyone else thinks, but I don't really believe that price is the major reason that the Zune is an apparent 'flop'. Sure it has interesting features, but in my opinion (any my wifes), the thing is too-big, and too-ugly. The market is so fashion concious (hence the color options appearing, just like cell phone covers) I don't think the Zune would do much better if it was priced $100 less than an iPod. Now add in the easy in-car integration and home-audio integration available for the ubiquitous iPod, and you have quite a tough sell....
Besides, until Microsoft creates its own 'reality distortion field' like Apple has, they are basically out of luck:)
EMI was clear that this will be a level playing-field -- they will wholesale unprotected tracks to all of its resellers. Now that said, I understand why many might think this is a real boon for AAC, however isn't it quite possible to have the exact opposite effect? Quality issues aside (yes flame on, audiophiles) I think most people who are using AAC extensively has been because of the iTunes store. It is probably the best store, and bu default iTunes will use AAC for all your own tracks, in addition to the store. The use of AAC I could attribute to the close ties to iTunes and the iTunes Store. If the market now opens so the 'Rhapsodys' of the world can sell un-molested MP3, WMA or OGG files, there certainly would be less of a need to use iTunes to make purchases. iTunes will always import your DRM-less audio, and will continue to do so. So couldn't this new-era of digital delivery actually be a real benefit to all of the 'other' formats out there?
Think of this - if you could buy all your favorite tracks from another store in the format of your choice (OGG perhaps), would you not tend to use that store more?

Yes, I know you can completely 'disable' the sounds, but with Vista I am hoping that I could simply lower the volume of the sounds exclusively from Messenger (or any other app for that matter).
Yes, but have you ever tried to 'turn-down' the volume of MSN Messenger? You can't -- unless of course, you turn down the entire 'WAV' slider....then you can't hear your DVD no matter how the volume is set within the Media Player app. With audio control brought to an application level, I am hoping that I could 'mute' the ouput from messenger while leaving the other media player alone.
I wonder if you will be able to use Nero (with its H264/Mpeg4 codec) to code your own video and transfer it to the new iPod? Think Steevie limited playback support to DRM'd and items purchased vis iTunes music store? I would love to transfer my own videos for playback and have little interest in music videos.
New iPod announced -- 2.5-inch display, 320 x 240 resolution, MPEG-4 support, and video out. Engadget caught that they are 30% thinner than current full-size iPod. Will be available in 20GB and 60GB versions for $299 and $399, respectively.
New iMac, and 'FrontRow' remote as well...
*IF* this is real, what DRM would Apple use?

So if this actually turns out to be real, what kind of DRM do you think Apple would use in it? I am assuming that they would want to offer an iTunes like experience and have the ability to purchase & download video. Can the Fairplay scheme work on video? [I have no idea how this whole DRM thing works... I leave that stuff up to DVD Jon:-) ]
Any opinions?
I can't wait until Microsoft unveils its music-download service for 'ermerging markets' -- you know ala 'windows xp starter' style. For only 1/10th of the regular price, they'll sell you 9/10ths of the song.... more than enough for those guys:) Won't the Music industry execs love this one!
And alternative that is not free, but very full featured is RUNBOX (www.runbox.com). Runbox offers 10GB email, and 1GB of file storage. They also offer POP, IMAP, Webmail, WAP and Mobile access. They even provide SSL access to boot. Pretty great service for a small fee. You can also host your own domains email on their server, thus giving you the ability to keep your johndoe@mymail.xxx accounts if you desire. Check it out, I've been using it for several years and love it.
Right when I am peeved that I had to re-install, I have to get back on the phone with M$. Enough is enough - has their 'activation' programs really impacted priacy at all? Has it done anything beyond bother paying users?
Let's see, if the grapefruit I ate this morning was about 12cm in diameter the total approx. volume would be about 864cm^3.
Plutonium has a typical denisty of 19.84g per cm^3, giving us a total weight of 17.062Kg....
Thats a darn heavy grapefruit!

The Price/Performace of a VIA C5 (or C7)would be interesting to see here. No, I don't expect it to come even close in 'horsepower' to the players, but it would be of great interest for low-cost server appliances of sorts.

Kudos to a job well done. That is hilarious! I'd love to know how to do such a thing on my WRT54G....
Simple Question: Where did the Opera name come from? I've been using Opera since version 5 and love it, but do wonder where the name originated from.

So, at a zillion pages-per-minute, the ink cartriges should last, oh, 5 minutes or so?
What's with the XBOX black becoming iPod white? Aren't there enough other choices?

So if we had an open-source alternative driver, things would be rosy? I don't know jack about building drivers, so is it even possible?
Anti-Virus, that is.
Great. Now who makes A/V software for my turntable?

Hmm, can he print out some Wasabi in that 'Sushi' for me? :)
