    The only way you can get spam this way is by OPTING IN like I do with my carrier for SMS notifications for monthly freebies like credits or talk time etc :D

    If someone had informed me that I could opt out (which I now do) then I would - opting out of spam texts isn't exactly well known.
    This whole /. thread is spawned from that fact.

    In the UK I've been recieving text message spam for a while, and recently there has been a massive surge in the number of text message "Scams" being sent out.
    Generally of the type "You have a new voicemail, call XXX to listen to it", where XXX is a premium rate number.

    Highly, highly irritating - now all we need is a baysian text message filter ;)

    In countries where computers/power are limited, every single box, no matter how slow it is will be used as a proper machine, not a bloody terminal.

    Yes, that may be so - but if you're a linux user wanting to talk to lots of friends who just happen to use windows, its ideal!

    I don't know about the rest of you geeks, but after a few nights of mad coding to meet a deadline switching your sleep pattern back to a semi-regular one is utter hell!

    When you read how it's done, its really not that impressive at all - essentially just videoing the area behind him, and then using a video projector to shine it on to him.

    I had the same idea a few weeks ago when wandering round a local church - imagine placing these speakers in the roof attached to positional motors.

    I'd love to see how people praying actually reacted when they heard the "Voice of god" :D

    This has been done - There was a programme on Channel 4 (UK) about three weeks ago in which they successfully built his glider and flew it. It flew very well, although it was apparently like nothing that currently exists with regards to handling, and it had no yaw (I think thats the word) at all.

    My point was that it was from a movie score, and thereby not something you would expect a service like this to cover - but whatever :)
