  1. MS and the USSR on MS Dissatisfaction High, Users Consider Switching · · Score: 1

The reason why the USSR fell is because Gosplan's monopoly on the USSR's entire GDP killed innovation, thus causing it to become so bloated that it ultimately suffocated under its own weight. The fact that more and more people are moving away from the Borg is a Very Good Thing - when MS suffocates under its own bloat, it won't take the entire industry down with it.

Personally, I can't wait to see what develops. I imagine that MS will ultimately do a Soviet style collapse. Don't believe me? Put it his way - if someone told you back in 1961 that the USSR would be dead within 35 years, would you have believed it?

This message posted from the Opera browser, incidentally. See, I practise what I preach. ;)

  3. That's something new? on Homemade Silly Putty · · Score: 1

Okay, so the AK-47 and the M1921AC are not chemical compounds - but they were created to kill enemies AND they have recreational purposes. :sets selector to "Rock 'N' Roll" mode:

  4. Jeebus, isn't that schitt messy enough? on Homemade Silly Putty · · Score: 1

I had some when I was a kid. It was messy, it stuck to everything, and the messes resulted in me getting a lot of spankings. Not only that, but it stank worse than my whisky farts do today.

No, I do NOT want a wad of silly putty that big. No. Damn. Way.

  5. 250Kb of bandwith taken by spam, mebbe on Good Guys 2, Spammers 0 · · Score: 1

That does seem fair - one swat against the bare butt Singapore style for every 250Kb of bandwith taken by spam.

  6. It's either a religion or a business, but which? on Dutch Court Rules That Linking Is Legal In Scientology Case · · Score: 1

If it's a religion, it's nonprofit, and has no use for "trade secrets".

    If it's a forprofit entity, it ain't a religion.

So which is it, Scientology? Can't very well have it both ways, now.

  7. Why lower yourself? on Spammer Hangout's Membership Roster Left Exposed · · Score: 2, Insightful

I mean, why not take the higher ground and just continue fighting spam? I know it's tempting, but paying back evil for evil is VERY bad karma.

Boycott spam, file abuse reports, blackhole .cn/.ru/.su/.kr, institute Bayesian(sp?) filtering, do challenge/response, sue when you can. These things work - and best of all, you don't have to worry about spammers recieving unwarranted sympathy.

    Just my USD$0.02, of course.

  8. Netscape and legal precedent. on Microsoft Prepares Office Lock-in · · Score: 2, Interesting

I'm no expert, but IIRC, didn't MS nailed for doing pretty much the same thing to Netscape some years ago?

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but wouldn't that be some sort of precedent here?
