Spammer Hangout's Membership Roster Left Exposed

MikeCapone writes "According to an article at Wired News, spammers feel the need to be part of a community too. The Bulk Club is one such community. A message on the site states that it offers, for a $20 monthly fee, a variety of how-to articles, spamming software, a members' message board area, and 300,000 FRESH e-mails/week. Unsurprisingly, the 'Law & Ethics' section is 'Members Only.' The good part is that, because of a glitch, the membership list of this charming organization was left exposed on the website."

I was thinking a better approach would be to slip their email addresses into comments on a webpage. With the way my websites are set up, a change to one file would get the list sent out with each page on that site...it'd be trivial to include a block like this:

      <!-- Spambots, chew on this:
      foo@bar.com

Addresses in mailto links are obfuscated so that the spambots won't get them...these, of course, would be left alone.

(Damage caused directly by the projectile.) However, they do an amazing amount of secondary damage caused by the shock/pressure waves the projectile makes as it travels through the tissue. A hit in the leg has been known to cause dissection of the arterial walls all the way up to the heart. In short, the more dense the tissue, the worse the damage is. Ironically, the safest place to take a hit with a high-velocity weapon is through the chest, so long as it does not hit spine or major circulatory systems. Because of the air in the chest, the pressure wave dissipates rather than transmitting. The worst place is the head/brain, since you've got very dense tissue completely contained in an inflexible enclosure. Think - exploding melon.

Small - midsize companies can deal with just one generic PC box regardless of spam if they configure it right, and big ones can afford a real server. (I certainly would, and I hope most people would agree with me, but 150 years ago, that kid would have been beaten to death by the orchard owner.)

In other words, we can accept that a crime has occurred, but decide on a punishment fitting the circumstances.

Legally... well can we dispense with legalities, since in this case, the law is an ass. Ethically, we should be looking to international conventions of human rights to base our judgements of human behaviour, and rights are always a question of balance. From the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child:

      Article 3
      1. In all actions concerning children, whether undertaken by public or private social welfare institutions, courts of law, administrative authorities or legislative bodies, the best interests of the child shall be a primary consideration.

So I'd say that even in systems where the ethics include strong property rights, the rights of a hungry child take precedence, and it would be a violation of that child's right to adequate nutrition to allow her to starve in sight of full apple trees, regardless of property rights. While the CRC is a document for nation states, the full spirit of it applies to all adults everywhere (unless you're a complete blithering statist), and so each of us is individually responsible for it, even the sick bastard with full apple trees who wants to beat a hungry child for eating one.

I appreciate your attempt to contain human rights within the framework of property rights, but a system founded on property will never be fair to the unpropertied, no matter how hard you try to put in checks and balances. Arguing for some naturalized property right that transcends human rights is an ideological position that suggests I should like my stuff and power more than people.

Human rights are inalienable, property rights beyond those needed to sustain human rights are optional.

Disks are physical devices that you buy from the store, and if you can't use all of that device because someone else is using it without your permission, then I call that theft.

If a spammer walked out of your server room, hard drive under arm, yeah that's theft. Information clog you can filter and delete? That's vandalism, since it interferes with your productivity and wears your drives, but it can be recovered from and prevented, without having to replace a missing drive. A loose analogy: you own a building and put up a mural, some loser overpaints it with a crappy graffito, has he stolen your wall, your reputation, your view? No, he's vandalized it; paint it and move on.

My case: accusing spammers with "vandalism" is a stronger argument than "theft", because it's more accurate, it doesn't commoditize my time or information, and it's just as bad an affront if not worse.

"I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back, I was browsing through news groups and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought, "Yeah right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 email addresses stated in the article. You then place your name and address in the bottom of the list at the #6th position and email it to as many people as possible, advertise this page in as many ways possible, also post this message with your email address in the list and post it in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured "what have I got to lose except $6.00, right?" Then I invested the measly $6.00. Well GUESS WHAT!!... Within a days, I started getting money coming into my Pay Pal account! https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_registr ation-run. I was shocked! I figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $25.00 that means 25 people joined the group after they seen my posted messages to them. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1000.00! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still coming in rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00, and the 5 seconds it took to join Paypal https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_registr ation-run , I have spent more than that on the lottery!
Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, why it works... Also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it, as you need it. To buy a gun like that, you have to 1) get permission of your local police chief or sheriff, who can turn you down for any reason or no reason; 2) submit fingerprints and a photograph; 3) pass a thorough FBI background check; 4) comply with all State and local laws, as about one-quarter of the states do not allow such weapons to be owned; and 5) pay a $200 tax every time the gun is bought or sold.

These are the safest guns in the American arsenal. There are about 400,000 machine guns in the National Firearms Registry, and only one of them is known to have been used in a crime, EVER: a contract murder by a police officer many years ago.

Any history of felony conviction, domestic violence conviction or restraining order, drug addiction, or involuntary commitment to a mental hospital is an automatic disqualification. In practice, if you have the least reputation with your local PD as a trouble maker, you can forget about ever getting permission to buy such a gun.

This kind of gun is bought by wealthy, law-abiding collectors, who often refrain from ever firing them, in order to preserve their value as collector's items.

If a spammer was slaughtered down, I would not shed a single tear. Why not? Because the spammer has put himself in that situation. He is abusing my network. There are no laws available to deal with these scumbags.

Now, child rapists are dealt with by the justice system. They go to court and are convicted. They do their time. There is no need for people to kill them or publish their details everywhere.

But spammers never do their time. They don't have to face the consequences of their actions.

If someone starts killing spammers because of a list someone posted, I won't care. If anything, I might think that finally, justice has come.

  217. someone should write a virus that targets these... by asscroft · · Score: 1

I'm as fed up with virii as the next guy, but if someone were to write a virus that sent email to the addresses on this list and any other known spammer addresses that would be funny. I can see the media running with it.

speaking of viruses, there are viruses that harvest email addresses for propagation reasons, like Iluvyou which took from your contacts folder. Do you think there are viruses out there that harvest email addresses for marketing/spam reasons. Do a silent install, spreading not through email but through some other exploit (like msblaster), silent harvest and a silent send to some compromised servers with set up repositories perhaps on a web server. Then with proper cloaking and several nodes of filter go in and get the addresses every so often. It's not filling up peoples in boxes with virus-mail, it's not rebooting their systems, it would still slow the network down but only those running snort and other detection mechanisms would catch it. hmm. I bet you could package that in a freeware media player or some other pos shareware program with a license that says exactly this and charge money for the addresses. Then, instead of being the scum of the earth and going to jail, you'd be a hero like those bastards at brilliant digital and Gator and be legally protected. (lawmakers are so full of shit when they can't tell the difference between trojans and, well...trojans).

Anyway, now I'm really off topic, but the other thing I can't understand about viruses is why no one has created a virus that sends all of the messages in your inbox/sentbox to all of the recipients on your list. I bet there are lots of secrets people don't want going all over the place. Salary negotiations, love affairs, future lay-off plans, etc. Would suck in real life, but would be funny if it were fiction, like in a movie, that would be hilarious. I think I'll patent this idea, just to see if a patent on a virus is legal. haha. then if it ever happens (knowing I won't write it myself) I can sue everyone who has the virus for patent infringment ala sco. haha. I'll be RICH beyond all imagination.

    wooo! hooo!
