    The nice thing about ISO paper sizes is that you can fold an A3 sheet of paper in half to get A4 (similar size to Letter), and fold an A4 sheet in half to get A5.

    I've got one of these http://www.philips.co.uk/c/-/led-9.5-w-48-w-bayonet-cap-warm-white-8718291193005/prd/ as a cupboard light and it works fine in there.

    For room lighting, I am using 30W CFL bulbs, and there aren't yet any LED bulbs that will replace them, but things are improving all the time. I like my rooms to be much brighter than most people, but for a lot of people, something like http://www.philips.co.uk/c/-/led-11-w-60-w-normal-cap-warm-white-8718291193029/prd/ will do the job just fine.

    I thought the whole point of the social security number was so that the employer could deduct taxes and pay them to the correct place. Where I live we have a National Insurance Number which is pretty much the same thing, and my employer is about the only person I give it to.

    It is perfectly possible to save your Word documents to online storage, and have the best of both worlds from that point of view, with a copy both online and on your local hard drive.

    The other thing is that while most people only use about 10% of the features in Word, they don't all use the same 10%, so most people will find that the feature lite alternatives are missing something. In my case it is the ability to pull data from external databases.

    People use 3 different cues to render a 3D image in their brain. The first is perspective, and if you are looking at something more than about 8 meters away, that is the only cue you will get. Every "2D" movie shot with a camera, and quite a lot of cartoon movies will give you this cue.

    The second cue is stereoscopic vision. This is the additional cue that "3D" movies offer.

    The third cue is focal length, and there aren't as far as I'm aware any type of recorded film technology that offers this.

    KDE is the desktop environment. kWin is the Window manager. The Window manager draws borders around the windows and allows you to move them around the screen and so on.

    It doesn't allow you to rip a CD onto your iPod, and even the music industry here thinks its OK to do that.

    Yes, but if all the cookie does is distinguish my session from other people's sessions, then you don't need permission and you don't need to notify at all.

    It is only "tracking cookies" that require permission in the EU. Cookies that for example record the items you have placed in your online shopping cart so the site can remember to sell you all of them when you go to the checkout do not require permission.

    Yes, that was the idea of Metro. The problem is that as Apple has shown, Desktops/Laptops and tablets are used in very different ways, so need a very different UI and apps.

    Prepare to be surprised and blown away, and not in a good way.

    It kind of reminds me of people on here when Slashdot first launched.

    Linux has moved on since those days. It has improved, and is much more user friendly now. Windows 8 is a major step backwards.

    It's not. You need very intricate mouse control to use the charms bar for example.

    But the point of a blind trust is that you don't know what the trustee is doing with your money, and you can't tell him what to do; so the trustee could very well consider that he has a fiduciary duty to reduce tax liability by placing the money offshore.
