Because I can't stand living so close to tree huggers. BTW the definition of a tree hugger is 'someone who already lives in the forest but doesn't want anyone else to be able to live there too'.
What's more, more than 50% will probably be eaten up by 'overhead' costs. Or in other words, I would bet way less than 50% of the money will go into actual game development. Of course the way big companies bill, it will all look like it is going towards game development. But of the 150 to 200 dollars an hour towards development they will likely charge, the actual developers, artists (if a graphics based game... I didn't see anywhere it has to be), testers, architects, analysts, behavioural scientists, etc will likely see less than 50. Some will go towards project management, but most I bet will be for profit. With these companies, even research projects need to make a huge profit. Not saying profit is bad, but I would rather see more tax money going towards the actual work than what these traditional 500 dollar toilet seat defense contractors do.
I'm tending towards saying let any company that wants to use this, use it. All they will achieve is a company full of homogenous 'yes men' with very little independent thought. We have all heard the discussions on whether China is capable of innovation, with much of the crux of the conversation falling to whether it is possible without allowing free thinking. Now here we have the opposite side of the coin from extreme socialism (which is of course communism). We have localized fascism within individual corporate societies (and of course it could be argued that through Washington lobbyists they are trying to make it an America tradition). Do not do or think outside the corporate norm. If making money is all about being innovative then these companies will ultimately fail. Patents can only last so long, so companies counting on keeping open free thinking at bay using patents will only last as long as the patents they are using to do this. The trouble of course is that this presupposes that the said lobbyists won't be able buy enough politicians to pass 'paid for' laws. And of this I'm not certain that I am so optimistic.
Lawsuits like this in Canada are much less frequent than in the United States. For one, settlements are much, much less, sometimes by orders of magnitude. It is much easier for the defense to claim for legal fees from the plaintiffs if they successfully defend themselves, especially if the judge determines that the cases was frivolous. That is why you also see less speculative law suits in Canada. There have been some million dollar settlements but these are the exception rather than the rule... they are very rare. The laws here make it much more difficult for a blame someone else for my stupidity kind of case. Mind you it hasn't stopped the nanny state from really setting in, as this story illustrates. The left wing politically correct in Toronto are sickening.
They were a specialty bike shop. They made the motorcycles with really long handle bars. For those with small arms. Harrr har bwaaaa ha ha ha ha ha! Thanks I'll be here all week...
Yeah, but there was a lot of stuff going on up to at least that point where Frodo had demonstrated strength. IIRC in the books he was the one who got them out of the swamps where they almost got enchanted. Maybe I remember wrong, but I thought he pulled Sam out of those.
Oh look, another fucktard who likes contributing to the mentality that has fucked the world's economy. GROWTH GROWTH GROWTH, gotta have nothing but GROWTH. Can't sell stocks and get big fat commissions without GROWTH. Dividends are returns for the investors, GROWTH is return for the speculator and Wall Street investment banker. Go crawl back under a rock where you came from asshole.
People Eating Tasty Animals. We need a way to spread this new meaning for the acronym around until people associate it with the acronym instead of what the animal rights idiots want. I wonder if it is possible to find a way to Streisand "PETA = People Eating Tasty Animals" around the world.
I had one grip with LoTRs that made me not able to go see the final movie of the series in the theatre, and I can't even watch a rental, or even a downloaded version: They turned Frodo into a pussy. In the books he had the strength and fortitude to carry on. In the movie he was a pussy who everyone ended up having to save, and would never have made it out his front door without Sam. Now Sam was supposed to help, but it was Frodo who had the internal fortitude. That is the problem with Hollywood these days, they want to make the lead characters politically correct and show their 'vulnerable side'. They make our heroes look like pussies which are not what heroes are. I wish that guy would have stuck with making shitty slasher movies.
Matter of taste. When it came out I think it was a pretty cool movie with some very interesting concepts. It hasn't aged as well as other though, I admit. When it came out 2001 A Space Odyssey was still fairly new (I think the director of Silent Running was the special effects director of 2001), and scifi was being used to examine more ideas other than Buck Rogers and giant ants. I think 2001 moved people to try to intellectualize scifi somewhat, and Silent Running fell in there. I think it was one of those that ultimately did help promote a different better vein of the genre, even if it hasn't aged well. And I'll admit, I found it pretty dry the last time I looked at it. But when I first saw it in the late 70's (I think it was on TV), I thought it was excellent. Go figure. How they got the 'droids in Silent Running is pretty interesting though: they used double amputees that they put in the suits, and they walked on their hands (the legs of the 'droids were the actors arms). Hah!
Almost all the Canadian bacon that you get in the United States is not the same as "real" Canadian (that is, "peameal") bacon. There is a guy in Troy MI who makes a living importing 'real' Canadian bacon though. What I think is funny is that there is actually a web site called "www.realcanadianbacon.com"
Why is this so bad? It doesn't really matter for the little guy, and in fact could really help. For one it's the next logical step in selling out all of North America's industries to China, for a second they won't be eavesdropping any more than the U.S. government already does. One government's secret police over another, what does it matter if you are just a peon in their eyes? And finally, if you can't do anything about how the secret police go about warrantless invasions of privacy and warrantless arrests regardless of whose secret police they are, you might as well enjoy the benefits of a little more competition in the marketplace. Especially when one of the players is a state owned enterprise with much lower operating costs because of that. It can only translate into better prices.
Hey Brad, why does Joe keep hitting the CTL-ALT-F combination over and over and over again with that glazed look in his eyes?
Oh, that was the key code for firing the autonomous Gatling gun on the ship he served on. And uhhhh, and the boss just gave him supreme shit for like the tenth time for painting all the monitors white.
That's OK, it won't stop moron head hunters from stipulating in the coming weeks that they only want Hadoop programmers with at least 5 - 10 years experience. I remember seeing that for Java programmers... in 2000.

The F-35 Story

From the beginning the Lockheed Martin design was overly complex and at risk of going way over budget. The Boeing submission was simpler and just as capable, but didn't have the sleek "cool" look of a conventional jet combat aircraft. I watched a documentary about the selection process, and was disappointed but not surprised at the way they selected Lockheed Martin. I think they would already have the Boeing entry in operation by now if they chose it. As an example, at least in the initial design, the LM version uses a separate fan for the VTOL capability, requiring a power take off shaft and clutch from the main engine to power it; as opposed to a simpler vectored thrust arrangement in the Boeing submission. Just this one feature was telling for me. It says to me that the LM product is over engineered and over complex. Not a good thing in a combat vehicle. Too many things in an already complex system to go wrong.
Who's the alien. Ahem. "To Serve Man".

How would that make any sense to what the Apple App store is meant to be doing for users: draining their pocket books?
That's Apple's right, and the right of users to let them. But let's make sure the idea is complete before posting it.

Here is a picture of the agro robots. It's OK, there are no goats around.
Crumpet is also slang for 'woman'. But it is considered derogative along the lines of something you can 'have' (hence the food connotation).
