Thank you. This is just another GPS based program that deletes instead of reminds. Nothing to see here. 'Researchers' is probably euphemism for fourth year student project that the fourth year students think is cool or novel but really isn't. And if they are really researchers, then why the hell is the U.S. government and the university wasting money on researchers who can only come up with something a fourth year student is probably capable of? Or is this the state of schools now? *sigh*
Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy were disciplined and had a sense of purpose. And I have read interviews of very successful CEOs who made no bones about not being well rounded. Their enjoyment in life was being an obsessive workaholic.
Just don't rub your eyes or grab your unit after cutting hot chiles without decontaminating or wearing gloves... never thought about doing that before.... good idea (at what point you put on the gloves depends on whether you wore them when cutting the chiles I guess [grin]). Mighty uncomfortable. Figured out the eye thing without needing to burn the shit out of them first. But once had to take a really bad piss in the middle of cutting the chiles and thought I'd washed my hands good enough before before using the w/c. What a horrible realization that I hadn't. They say something in milk relieves the pain caused by the capsaicin in the peppers. But I just couldn't bring myself to dipping my wick in a glass of moo juice. Hey this might be a way to get your girlfriend to break up with you without telling her you don't want to see her anymore.
On another note, there are some sauces like one called 'Pure Cap" that say they are up to 500,000 Scoville units in heat. I wonder what ingesting that pure would do. I have heard some urban legends (or maybe not so much legend) that there have been people who had heart attacks induced by the sudden intense heat.
Too far down the list of juvenile acronyms put together by 'lusers' to register with me. Guess I wasn't 1337 enough to 'get it'. Must be spending too much time doing something useful. Apologies. Now I have to figure out some more, "no, no I patented 'that' first" jokes to get ready for the next Slashdot patent article.
There is a Russian company named Netcracker doing telecom network provisioning for a number of telephone companies around the world including Sprint, Telus and Shaw (in Canada), and others in other places (at least their development shop was in Russia the last project where I dealt with them). Considering Comrade Putin is back in charge (after forcing changes to the constitution there), shouldn't we now be getting paranoid over that? Or how about with the current trend in pro-Palestinian anti-Semitic feelings, shouldn't we be paranoid about Israel, since Amdocs is pretty much the biggest software vendor in the world for telco related companies?
The point is, if America is going to allow all its companies to outsource its technology overseas, why are they closing the barn door after the horses are gone. Like someone else pointed out, most the electronics that will be used for this are likely made in China. And who says the software is the only place that security holes can be placed. They could put it in the firmware or maybe built right into the hardware. Thinking that anyone can prevent the Chinese government from doing this if they really wanted to is pretty naive considering their direct accessibility.
If they are going to make any case against this company that makes sense to me, it would be that it isn't fair to allow a state run/sponsored/funded company to compete in bids against companies that have to financially stand on their own two feet.
This is what happens when one commercial organization has overwhelming control of an 'open source' project's code base. Eventually things will change away from what the open source movement wants due to commercial pressure. Face it, Sun (specifically Scott McNealy and his hate for MS) likely funded and promoted OO in an effort to poke thorns in the side of MS (and their office platform). And in some cases it worked, especially with some European countries opting for OO of MS Office. In the end, when it didn't meet anyone else's objectives (i.e. Oracle didn't give a shit about poking MS, and likely uses MS Office), it was cast adrift/defunded. The only good thing for the open source crowd is that Sun eventually did open source it. Maybe someone there saw the eventual sale to someone else who wasn't interested in funding it any longer.
Same thing really even for MySQL. Commercial interests saw it sold to someone else to the consternation of the open source community. But again, lucky for them that the powers that be at MySQL had an open source version. I think (and seriously this is not intended as a troll) this is one of the strengths of PostgreSQL and similar projects that create something that is of interest to a number of organizations that are willing to commit resources (time and money). But of course it is also one of its weaknesses since it doesn't benefit from as much 'concentrated' funding; even if it does get a good amount of funding from various sources... the source just isn't as consistent/reliable. But of course that might be different now that EnterpriseDB is using it as its business core.
So anyway, I'm not surprised when things like this happen to any open source project with a single primary commercial company controlling its code base. I keep wondering when the shoe will drop with JBoss.
Begging the question doesn't mean "this leads to the question". He was begging the question "if iPhones aren't better, why are millions of people buying them," by inferring that iPhones are better.
If it was left there, and if on another mission to the moon, say by another country, would they try to reclaim their abandoned equipment if someone on the expedition took it home? Maybe. Would they win, likely not. So why break this guy's balls?
They left it there. It would have been salvage. They didn't have to. This is pure crap. There is nothing stopping a person from reusing your garbage once you throw it out, no matter the condition it is in, bad or good. As long as you don't trespass on someone's property to get it. And as far as I know the moon is public property (for now). I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure if something is abandoned, it is salvage. Did the astronauts sign anything saying they wouldn't salvage stuff, or weren't allowed to take things (that weren't a danger to anyone) home that were going to be thrown out?
George W. Bush, Barrack Obama, and the U.S. Senate have all made it plainly clear that the government no longer wants to or thinks they have to abide by the constitution. Some folks are trying to disagree but.... Anyway, like any government bureaucracy, after it has been around a while it tends to create its own group mind, and usually that group mind tends to forget or disregard annoying things like constitutional rights or just plainly doing the right thing. After all, these annoyances just get in the way of doing things, which is already hard enough to do in a bureaucratic institution. And the problems just get exacerbated by the rectilinearlly rigid thinking robot-like people that seem to excel in a bureaucracy; and no-doubt is the type of person who is causing this bullshit maneuver that NASA is making right now. (And corporations are just narcissistic/egocentric bureaucracies... extrapolate from there.)
You are begging the question. Millions of people bought Windows 95. And your point is? Pointing out the merits of heard mentality will only get you so far.
Exactly. I know when I have to read PDF documents, I always switch to 'scroll pages' rather than have them pop through page by page, almost exactly the same way that flipping pages would be. Scrolling through content is a more natural way to read it, in my opinion.
Enhance 224 to 176. Enhance, stop. Move in, stop. Pull out, track right, stop. Center in, pull back. Stop. Track 45 right. Stop. Center and stop. Enhance 34 to 36. Pan right and pull back. Stop. Enhance 34 to 46. Pull back. Wait a minute, go right, stop. Enhance 57 to 19. Track 45 left. Stop. Enhance 15 to 23. Give me a hard copy right there.
Kind of sad actually. I was going to suggest using this technique to come up with a paper on how to travel faster than light. I guess the trick would have been to figure out which part of all the typing was the correct method.:) I guess it is easier already having the finished work to compare to.
The Chinese definitely steal ideas and IP to the extent that I can't imagine why corporations would have them producing their products as there are no trade secrets over there, especially for foreign companies
Here here. I was on a plane flight from Seattle to Saint Louis a few years ago. I was sitting next to a guy who was president of a contract manufacturer and whose factories were located in China. I too am skeptical of North American (and likely European) companies that say that there is no way that their technology will be stolen. This guy claimed that they had controls to ensure that Chinese competition could in no way use their location (in China) to find a way to copy the technology produced there because they made sure that parts and finished pieces, nor plans, nor automation programming and designs could leave the building. Since I had to sit beside him for another three hours, I didn't bother telling him he was naive (and likely a self imposed one at that) idiot, and/or refrained from telling that was the best thing I could say to him after that (the other being to tell him to fuck off for thinking I was an idiot). But I'm sure some of these business majors actually believe this. Ridiculous in any case.
And it makes me shake my head to know that a lot of military parts are made from components made in China and India. Never mind banking records etc. Yeah, yeah, they are not allowed to store records like this in other countries unless they meet the same standards blah blah blah.
The truth of the global economy is that people who own the vast majority of shares don't care where the factories are, they just care about the profits. It is also why the stock market reports on TV are a lot of meaningless horseshit to the majority of people since it no longer is a true reflection of the economy (but does make cheap content for news shows). It used to when the companies produced their goods in North America, so when the companies did well, it meant the economy was doing well since they could hire more people at home. Now they hire more in China and the economy in North America doesn't reflect their profits. Yeah yeah, RRSP/401K blah blah blah. The people out of work already cashed these out and they were bought by Chinese investors or Wall Street (we don't actually do anything for million dollar bonuses) clowns.
Actually it should be either informative or insightful since people here are finally showing they are fed up with articles/posts made up of indecipherable shite acronyms that only their "in" crowd twats will understand. This site has a broader audience. Speak to THIS audience, not your friends. If you are using acronyms, explain what they are first. Or why bother to post to a site with a much wider scope of interests, something that many/most won't or don't understand. The mods are doing a good job on this one.
What are your thoughts on the writing of the TV episodes you were in. They seem to me to often be 'morality plays'. Also the writing and acting seemed to sometimes take on a kind of Elizabethan Theatre vibe, where they made up for minimalistic special effects, and sometimes minimalistic sets. For example whatever that episode was where the characters assumed the role of the Erps at the OK Coral. For what it's worth, I really liked the presentation concept of that particular episode since it was so unique. What are your thoughts on this? I mention the episode to illustrate my question, but if you know opinion on the whole thing, then tell us, do you like hamburgers, or cheeseburgers better?;)
A pointy haired boss is still a pointy haired boss... even if they wear a funny hat over it.

No, the Ayatollah.

And never mind the next morning if you have drank enough and get the post alcohol runs. Pissing pure fire out your ass is a, ahem, bummer.

Woosh!
I wonder what they would have found out if they compared their results to the speech patterns of corporate CEO's.

Thanks. I was wondering why the Ontario Municipal Board was involved in this.

Did you really set your high school principal's car on fire for being an asshat? Or is this just a highly likely rumour?
