"Calm down, Beavis; take a closer look at the third and fourth entries and you'll realize that they're the same exact cluster, before and after its owners added another 64 processors to it. In much the same way, System X is also listed in the seventh, ninth, and eleventh slots, with scores taken at various points along its journey to life as a complete 1,100-Xserve system. Factor out the doubles and, barring an "October Surprise," System X ought to sit in fifth place, under an Alpha cluster, a new Itanium2 system, the once-mighty Earth Simulator, and the new top dog, that chunk of IBM's unfinished BlueGene. Woo-hoo, PowerPCs in two of the top five! No other chip can say that."
Mr. Pike, I'm a fan of Plan 9 (along with the notion of what it could be), would you give us an idea of some creative uses for this OS. Be as specific as possible.
Also, if you will, a link for (instructions) porting to Plan 9.

It reminds me of the record business.
Seriously, some of the talent scouts really CAN tell what's really good just by listening (some got the job from their uncle/auntie). That's where the trouble starts, no one can make a decision-much less a decent pitch without invoking the gods of pop for comparison. The reason no one is buying is because they're picking stinkers.
Example: Bonnie Raitt's Nick of Time.
http://www.bonnieraitt.com/disc_nick_of_time.php
Took marketing totally by surprise!, she was deemed "washed up". Surprise!
The listening public had NO trouble picking this little gem out and making it gold (what? double platinum).
Another artist they don't push:

Brilliant stuff (for the genre).
If the recording companies were smart they let us pick the hits. You know, a Fresh Artist, New release download area (with marketing pushing the site heavily). Many Ears make for a NO Brainer(TM)
My favorite example:

These artists are hiding in plain site.
The record companies (why yes, I DO know of what I speak) need to fire some people a get with the program.
This is all quite academic, until you've been shot.

Long story short, I then purchased a Walther PPK-S, a fine, small weapon, later,... same life... I found myself in 2 separate situations, that without that pistol handy the BAD people would have another notch - both instances they back up slowly, turn and ran.
You have no idea how badly I wanted to fire a warning shot right through their head.
So kids, until you know how this feels, or REEEEAAALLLY thought this through, save it.
Backed up in a corner looking at a fucking idiot maniac, I hope you do think it through - as in slow motion... what the hell am I going to do. Good luck , man.
Dear Steve, Here are a few things to help you pass the time (yes, we know you read Slashdot). You are for all intents and purposes "on mandatory holiday", make the most of it. We assume you have a Powerbook on your roll over table and some kind of mouse, so shoo everyone away and have 'em close the door.

This (one of many examples) should ring in the ears of musicians/music makers affiliated with this organization.
Independents will fill this void rapidly with their wares. If you think that this is impossible, check some of the grassroots efforts - here's an example (click above).
I hope the RIAA continues in this vein, we'll have better music and the money will end up in a more proper place.

The ARC team distinguishes overall man-computer system into a dichotomy between two systems, the service system and user system. The Service System is what appears at the terminal, the organization of software and hardware the system gives to me, the set of tools and capabilities available when I click on the screen. The user system is what is beyond that. Given these tools, how do we use the links, what are the conventions for leaving messages? How do we use the NLS capabilities to do work? The procedures, skills, methods, procedures, skills, and specific concepts people use are all developed in coordination with the kind of tools they have available.
