It's a smart move on Toronto Star's point. Why would this be news? It isn't. Nobody in Toronto is concerned about how local government in Germany works. So why is is in the paper? Look at the ads. Microsoft, Dell, etc. Now, if it was your paper, are you going to run stories complimentary to your benefactors, or ones that paint them in a bad light. I don't read the Toronto Star, but since most papers are interchangeable in their content and (in Canada at least) are all owned by two or three companies, hence the reason for not lending much credibility to newspapers. Sorry.

Anyone who believes you have privacy these days must have taken too many hockey pucks to the head. Canada is falling apart. Our roads, hospitals, military. Try invoking your rights, it takes money. I can't even file for unemployment insurance using Linux (outrageous). This is just a weak attempt at making Canadians feel warm and fuzzy in the middle of a bitter winter. And you fell for it.

Come on, sure being broke has it's drawbacks, but some of the happiest times of my life were spent while unemployed. Adversity builds character and teaches you the true value of things. If your job is the most important thing in life to you, your priorities are seriously out of whack. And if you think "this economy" is bad, just remember that there is some guy in India or China right now who is smarter, hungrier and will work harder than you for almost nothing. This is the giant sucking sound that Ross Perot alluded to. You can hear it better with the power off.

  21. Re:I wish it would stop being a hobby OS on Windows 2003 takes 5% away from Linux · · Score: 0

What this and every other windows vs linux topic shows is that the divide between both sides goes much deeper than simply computer software. There is a fundamental difference between the two which I see as those who are happy with things the way they are (could be better) and those who demand change (things suck). Regardless of that, there is no contest. Linux should concentrate on doing things the right way and not pandering to people who may or may not know what they are talking about. If IBM or Sun want to make it a pissing match that's OK, they're not Linux.
