It's a smart move on Toronto Star's point. Why
would this be news? It isn't. Nobody in Toronto
is concerned about how local government in Germany
works. So why is is in the paper? Look at the ads.
Microsoft, Dell, etc.
Now, if it was your paper, are you going to run
stories complimentary to your benefactors, or ones that paint them in a bad light.
I don't read the Toronto Star, but since most papers are interchangeable in their content and
(in Canada at least) are all owned by two or
three companies, hence the reason for not lending
much credibility to newspapers. Sorry.
I wouldn't go getting too patriotic there, don't
forget that they basically "stole" the entire underlying system (frebsd==darwin). Not exactly
stolen in the legal sense, more in the sense of
using something that someone else develops.
Anyone know how much they pay SCO?
So why doesn't everyone just learn to speak English? That way mozilla can load faster!
I usually leave off nls support wherever I can.
Ever looked at the size of kde-i18n-whatever?
They seem to have loads of smart people working on
Gnome these days. So how do they explain something
like Epiphany? And why is gtk-2.0 so slow (compared
to the first gtk certainly)?
Anyone who believes you have privacy these days
must have taken too many hockey pucks to the head.
Canada is falling apart. Our roads, hospitals,
military. Try invoking your rights, it takes money.
I can't even file for unemployment insurance using
Linux (outrageous).
This is just a weak attempt at making Canadians feel warm and fuzzy in the middle of a bitter winter. And you fell for it.
You don't need the GUI component. btdownloadcurses.py --responsefile some.torrent Works pretty good. Read about that in the Slackware docs, reccomended method by Patrick Volkerding. BitTorrent itself is only 200+kb, the wxPython/wxGTK is 10+mb
We all know that China will bury the United States
within ten years. It's a fact of life. Either get
used to it or stop buying their shoes.
And if using Microsoft is patriotic, I guess there
just isn't any hope for the whole goddamned United
States of Amerika.
And on Gentoo, you can also use udev, which takes
a little effort, but works pretty good. This will
really improve the integration of any hot-pluggable
devices on Linux.
Things are really happening with Linux these days.
If you are responsible for a product and find out the people who are selling it for you are crooks, you would find someone else or do it yourself. The same as if you had been ripped by a bad accountant or lawyer. The mafia went straight, maybe there is hope for the RIAA. And as an aside, I wouldn't pay a dollar for a song with no physical medium when the artist is only getting a few pennies of it. No way.
I live 500 yards from a coal-fired generating plant.
So, I guess that means I have a coal powered
athlon-xp processor.
Runs great (a little dirty, cough, cough...)
There's only one good sound card for Linux,
the RME Hammerfall. With a good d/a converter,
it should be as good as possible from a PC.
And most "computer people" know very little
about what is good sound, unfortunately.
Come on, sure being broke has it's drawbacks, but some of the happiest times of my life were spent while unemployed.
Adversity builds character and teaches you the true value of
things. If your job is the most important thing in life to you,
your priorities are seriously out of whack.
And if you think "this economy" is bad, just remember that there is some guy in India or China right now who is smarter,
hungrier and will work harder than you for almost nothing.
This is the giant sucking sound that Ross Perot alluded to.
You can hear it better with the power off.
What this and every other windows vs linux topic shows is that
the divide between both sides goes much deeper than simply
computer software. There is a fundamental difference between
the two which I see as those who are happy with things the way
they are (could be better) and those who demand change (things
suck).
Regardless of that, there is no contest. Linux should concentrate on doing things the right way and not pandering to people who may or may not know what they are talking about.
If IBM or Sun want to make it a pissing match that's OK,
they're not Linux.
I have the 4496 drivers running with Slack 9.0 and the
installation was a piece of cake. You need to have the
kernel sources installed for your kernel though. (And you
have to append your XF86Config too). Works great.
Just follow the directions.
wishing that he just put a flaming bag of dog shit on their doorsteps instead right now.
This could be one of those rare cases where the enemy of my enemy is not my friend.

My apologies to the nonexistant computer users. I guess there's not many of them left.
I wouldn't go getting too patriotic there, don't forget that they basically "stole" the entire underlying system (frebsd==darwin). Not exactly stolen in the legal sense, more in the sense of using something that someone else develops. Anyone know how much they pay SCO?
Most people are supicious of things that look "nice". Usually there's something hiding underneath. (Massive complexity in this case).

Solution? Yeah, they got something new called a PCI sound card. Works great. You can pick one up for about $20. You should get out more.

Thanks for the laugh.
Bad puddy-tat.

The changelog says samba-2.2.8a
Lots of good stuff here: http://wombat.san-francisco.ca.us/cgi-bin/fom

Ahhh...if only things would work the way they are supposed to.
