i.e Workers in India will want more because their standard of living increased and purchasing power parity catches up. But thats an economics thing which is so slow and depends on so many factors that you will die before you see any equilibrium if it ever happens.
For now you will have to figure out how to make the best of the current dreary situation!
"manned mission to the moon...."
Am i the only one confused. Indias moon ambitions were said to be restricted to only firing a unmanned galileo type mission to the moon. Which is pretty simple considering that they were planning to use the existing GSLV(Geo-Stationary Launch Vehicle) set-up. Why the sudden shift to a manned mission? A manned mission to the moon will never happen in India because of a number of reasons most notably the fact that we spend peanuts on space, compare isro's(indian space research org.) budget to NASA.
Also i thought GSLV - the satellite launch vehicle was totally indigenously built, Though WIRED seems to claim that the engine was Russian!
Anyway i think its a great achievement considering the amount India spends on space research.
There is a big difference between british english and american english especially in spoken form. You also have to note that we speak an Indianised version of british english which adds to the gap. And to answer your post, ever tried understanding an australian speaking english..... It definitely seems a different language to me.... with immortal phrases like "Where are you going to die mate?"
What wud u call a job that makes u stay up all nite and assume a false persona and answer mind numbing questions again and again and again and... A dream
especially since you get an above average salary and above average perks
Many of my friends who did work in a call center felt that the job was not that bad, but don't even think about staying for more than 4 months, A view endorsed in the story
> Questions have also been raised about the quality of the work, which involves grueling hours and can be mind-numbing. The average call-center worker stays in the job for only four months, business owners said.
I am sure u techies in the us are complaining about no jobs, But i do not think that these call center jobs took away any jobs away from u guys. NO half decent Person here would look at it as a serious job. Just good forthe pocket money.
I think India has a analogue of the first amendment.Roughly from what I learnt in school Free speech is a "fundamental right" guaranteed by the constitution.
However India has the same problem as that of the US. Because of "terrorist" attacks leaders are empowered to pass Draconian laws. Indias equivalent of the Patriot Act is POTA(Prevention of Terrorist Activities). The government can simply brandish all dissent as terrorism To be fair i side with the government in this case since I think the group is upto no good. But free speech issues remain !
However I cannot figure out why it is so difficult to shut down one group within Yahoo?
Also why is the story appearing so late. I cannot access Y Groups for a week now which included a crucial peroiod when all my assignments ( okay solutions ) were distributed through the group. The good news is that I still recieve the emails but web access is so important esp the facility to search archives
Please listen to an Honest Indians defence
I cannot believe that C I O could publish such a stupid article !!!! IT IS NOT ILLEGAL FOR EXPATS TO WORK IN INDIA ! How do I know this , Well we set up a company makin watches in collaboration with a jap company. The jap company being the majority shareholder sends two japanese managers. All the japanese company had to do was get a WORK PERMIT, Which believe me is a piece of cake compared to the shit we go through to get a h1b or even a student visa.
All major US companies and mnc's who set up base in India have a number of managers who are actually expats. In fact the CEO odf Coke India etc. etc are US citizens.
In fact articles in indian business magazines have pointed out that there is a recent trend even among Indian companies to hire expat managers.
And if u think that they hire only coats, That also is not true. Many Indian software comanies also hire techies although they have to be *highly specialized*
However if some of u nice unemployed people want to shift to India, Think of what you are going 2 put urself through. A TechWorker in India with all the qualifications of Daniel Soong may have to work for as low as 200-300$. Believe me thats what my friends here earn!
All of u who think that bannin the h1b is the answer may be sadly mistaken. Outsourcing may be a more serious problem than H1B and also realize that artificially creating hurdles rarely solves problems. The companies who are outsorcin 2 India are the ones that are doing this out of desperation alias economic recession. Note that america could not really prevent a lot of manfacturing activities 2 be shifted to bases like China, Malaysia. Banning the h1b also will not prevent the long term ousourcing phenomena.
Actually the point is it will reach equilibrium..
