    the future is not infinite, the future is indefinite but not infinite, if there was a way to find every last bit of energy and matter in the universe and get every piece of state information that exists (ignoring the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle) it would be possible, with enough computational capacity (multiverse spanning computer) you could calculate the future of a universe so long as it remained sealed from all other universes which were not part of the initial data set. The universe is not random but pseudorandom to such a massive extent it behaves as random under any possible measure of randomness.

    i have used dialog and the forms based systems, the main problem i had was doing recursive searches, search a topic then topics that come up from that topic, with the more complex query systems it is too easy to do one or two just wrong enough to get few or no good results, but still a valid query so no error messages.

    you can do quite a lot of advanced searching in google, the difference is that you don't have to, the fact that google works without having to use arcane syntax is certainly no flaw. now if one of those fee based databases would give me even a limited SQL connection then i might see it worth paying for, but i spent hours searching through for decent references and found nothing but crap, while google found what i wanted in a few minutes.

    the fact that many devices offload work to drivers and the CPU makes it ***HARDER*** to port drivers, compare modem v. winmodem for which is easier to get working under linux assuming the vendor hasn't released info and both need to be figured out. when the hardware does most of the work the driver is small and could be decompiled into at least a semi-readable blob of c, OTOH if the drivewr is large and complex it can take *years* to reverse engineer and by then the hardware is obsolete and the software is no longer needed.

    i think the other fault in the whole argument is that designing a video card (or most other hardware) to be perfectly compatable with drivers for someone else's card would be far more expensive than writing your own drivers.

    the expensive and difficult job of tuning the game engine so it can keep up full framerate at HD resolution, higher resolution means more pixels to calculate every frame, and if you start dropping frames your game looks like crap on a console, PC gamers accept slowdowns because their hardware can be replaced and settings tweaked, a console isd supposed to just work, and we aren't playing NES anymore, slowdowns really are not acceptable

    no, oracle tries to base their licencing on how much work the database will be doing, number and speed of the CPU's is a good indicator of that.

    I have the VHS tapes released as a colleciton all original, including Han shooting first, I really need to find out how to demacrovision a video signal in order to copy the tapes to a better format than VHS tape before they wear out.
