The bootable Mandrake DVD's are ISO Images from what I can tell (25h DVD-R book type), I copied them with Nero at the time because I didn't have an updated Linux distro on the machine that could do DVD's.
The single 4.7GB file was an encrypted container which needed to be burned as a UDF.
we talk here about Linux distros, so Windows doesn't exist at all in such a context:)
I know, I just found it humorous that Windows would let me burn the disc, but then it was unable to read it correctly, where Linux could read it fine.
Then LensCrafters/ShoppersOptical type chain glass stores could make 6-12 times as many lenses in a hour, and still charge you the same price for the lenses, and laugh all the way to the bank.
He might as well make a living, he can sell his machines to the chains and give them to the Red Cross.
Nothing will ever get cheaper, just "New & Imporved"
Under Windows with Nero you can burn a UDF disc with a file greater than 2 GB, but windows then doesn't know WTF to do with the disc when you look at it, Linux will read it fine.
There is no bootable DVD/UDF (I haven't find it yet). But you still can do a bootable DVD/ISO. It still limits you with 2GB (FAT inheritance).
So the bootable Mandrake 9.1 DVD I have is just a figment of my imagination (also the 8.2 bootable DVD)? Too much spicy food last night I guess...
I have burned a single 4.37 GB file onto a DVD-R and can read it fine under Linux, windows craps out, in fact, windows (using Nero) let me burn a 4.37 GB file, but then I couldn't read the disc under windows.
Both Mandrake discs I have, have over 4 GB worth of files, great for installs;)
That was kind of the point... irony.... it's NOT like Goldy:)
I know it's shocking, but there is a LARGE part of the world that DOESN'T fall under US jurisdiction, but still the MPAA was able to pressure the Oekokrim into prosocuting DVD-Jon because they could do it directly.
I have used both and SFU is barly POSIX compliant. I downloaded the source files of various utilities, almost everything compiles under Cygwin, almost noe compiled under SFU 3.0. Maybe 3.5 is better, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
At $99 bucks I would touch SFU with a 10' clown pole, for free I just won't touch it;)
...music online, you had better be distributing it in a lossless format...
Even a WAV file is a form os lossy compression since anything above 22,050 Hz cannot be recorded (Nyquist Theorem), not that you can hear it directly, unless your a dog or a very young child, it does create overtones.
To get as close to lossless as possible, sell your computer and buy a good linear tracking record player and some LP's (even this employees a form of analogue compression);)
Got a demo disk of this with a magazine, I think Microsoft's aim is to push people away from UNIX! What a pile it is, barly usable (gcc wouldn't compile anything even remotly complex) There are much better uses for $99.
Keep your money and install cygwin you'll be 100 times happier, and a little bit "richer"
...Common conception among some Linux users I know that Mandrake is very bloaty...
Bloaty?? The download version is 3 CD's, I looked at the download for Debian... 7 CD's! And I'm sorry, but Debians installer is horrid compared to Mandrakes
I've used Notes on Windows and OS/2, and I have to say it is a cumbersome heap.
In R5 you can add web pages to your start page, I could never get them to update... WTF!
No RSS support, why doesn't Ctrl-Enter send (like every other e-mail program).
It was great technology in the 80's, and since RSA's patents have expired, you can get the same security for nothing, or way more for nothing.
I don't know about the Notes client being "better" than Outlook, Outlook is at least consistent with the rest of the "Windows" world, the same keystrokes, menu layout, etc. Notes is on another planet here.
I just get this "icky" GroupWise feeling when I use Notes.
The problem is that people don't naturally talk clearly. They repeat themselves, add in lots of "ummm"s and "errr"s and "like"s, and generally speak in ways
Yeah, you could end up with wild claims of weapons of mass destruction and have an entire war based on some 2nd hand facts.... oh... wait... that already happened...
If Windows phoned home, and nobody answered, did the error really occur?
In other news, after the release of Windows XP service pack 947, Microsoft has suffered a complete DDOS attack as every Windows XP based computer in the world tried submitting a bug report at the same time.

Then we could all refer to it as "The Distribution formerly known as Mandrake."

Whenever I read anything like this and see the words "...funded by Microsoft...", I replace all instances of fact with FUD.
You could reuse the frame to make a haunted house for Halloween ;)
Try the classifieds or the local "bargin finder" type publication.

Pass me the serviettes as I have spilt poutine on my chesterfield!

You... may... have... this... problem... but... some... of... us... have... already... mastered... the... required... skills... to... communicate... effectivly... with... the... computer.

Even when the FTP servers are getting hammered I can get better rates than this, usually under 2 hours for a complete CD ISO.
I WANT MY OC-3!
