Much easier on a laptop. We beta tested handhelds with fingerprint scanners and it is really difficult to get a good read while trying to position the device and finger properly. Also when phone is ringing you are generally trying to access the call as quickly as possible. Even the Compaq PDA's were a pain, on smaller devices this is just frustrating..
I have been using one of these in London (Pimlico) since around 1995/6. No problems. Large number of cars, and as it in the heart of the city many expensive autos delivered daily to their rightful owners with no damage.
The reason that the name was changed and an additional song or two added , different artwork whatever, was so that you went out and bought the "import" version as well....
This does already exist. No need for third party providers. Take a look at http://www.httpy.com/
with an implementation shown at http://www.waterken.com/dev/Browser/ Great idea and simple. Just not much profit incentive for the big boys .
Why should people have to incorporate. It is expensive, forces the individual to file tons of papers, report earnings, pay for nominee directors and potentially create double taxation problems. In Germany for example a GMBH also requires around 50,000 euros and still provides limited protection for many years. Same in US and most of Europe in terms of limited protection. This is just unfair and I hope that people reject it as vocally as possible.
Over at Amazon they have continiously been reporting dimininshing numbers of users for their SOAP based services. I think the last count was around 90% Rest Based Access to 10% Soap.
'Nothing to hide', just another stock answer. Living in the early 70's in the US all you heard from the 'silent majority' was another stock answer 'Love it or leave it'. I left.
We use P2P (JXTA) in our food traceability project. Users keep their data locally but allow others within their group to access the data to build the required product documentation. This is done to comply with upcomming EU and US legislation.
Wow.... I was working in Renton (Wa) back in 93/94 and there was a 747 at the end of the runway with a shroud around the top deck. Everyone just shrugged it off as just another black project.
But one engineer kept saying that they were fitting lasers in it for this sort of stuff. Long time in the making I guess.
For the past five years I have been working with Ukranian firms in both Kiev and Lvov and have seen amazing results. The programmers we have used complete projects in weeks as opposed to months, have great pride in their work and often produce documentation in English at least as good as their western counterparts.
I have been living in the Ukraine as well and have also lived in China and India for out'd projects. The corruption is no worse while probably less subtle than in either of these locations.
All in all I believe that the industry in the Ukraine will continue to grow, as much for the sheer quality of the work, attitude of the workforce and a great educational and value system which seems to instill great pride and energy in all that they do (including party).
I for one have had a great time there and am always amazed at how quickly these folks pick up on new technologies and concepts.
The tags do not generally contain data and for the most part are read only in the new systems. The tag only contains an identifier which is used to access the info just like a barcode. Changing the number to another at the checkout would still display the id of the product. You have a watch at the checkout and the till shows a tin of beans....
These systems are not that easy to hack in reality, at least no more so than barcodes. Most people do not change the price tags either out of honesty or fear of being caught.
I doubt very much that jewelry stores will ever have self checkout lanes.
Uncle Bills arch rival Larry has had the most peculiar presentations during Oracle installs that I have ever seen and for as long as I can remember ...

Seems more like rats and sinking ships......
