I've never read the book. I've seen the Lynch movie and I liked it; I've liked other David Lynch movies I've seen as well. I've never thought that the movie didn't make sense apart from the unrealistic technologies.
In the Lynch movie Paul and Chani have a relationship which seems to transcend time: He dreams about her before ever "really" meeting her. I can hear her voice playing in my head saying something like "I've always loved you" to Paul in some dream-like sequence where they interact, so it would seem she never falls in love with Paul because she was always in love with him to begin with.

You have to understand what a Liberal Arts major is. For a very select few people, it's a stepping stone to being a professor, or research, or something else at the top of the field. For the vast majority however, a liberal arts degree is an opportunity to do some partying, find a mate, and prove that you're able to show up on time. For a long time, and for many still today, an arts major (not just liberal arts, some of the above posters were talking about making art which is much more associated with fine arts degree) was "a rich person's education." Not too many rich people get engineering degrees, because, for most, designing circuits or something isn't as fun as discussing philosophy or poetry.
As an aside, I hope making money isn't the only reason people choose to go into an engineering program. If that's the case, you would probably be much better off getting a business degree, or furthering your education to medical or law school, and I'm sure anyone who can get an engineering degree is sharp enough to pass medical school. You must expect to derive pleasure from doing engineering itself. [For a good number of girls in university, they'd probably maximise their income by forgetting about education and be prostitutes and pornographic actors (what was that Eliot Spitzer prostitute making, $5000/hour? There's some number of girls just as good-looking as her in every university), but I don't think maximising their income is their only interest -- that's an argument against people who say that money is everything, or nearly everything -- would they suggest the same to their daughters?]

Maybe because the Quran tells you, but then how do you know that the Quran is true? Etc. Don't you just have faith, and not evidence? Do you expect evidence for some claims, but not for others?

There was no equivalence between Theo Van Gogh making the movie "Submission" and Mohamed Bouyeri shooting and stabbing him in broad daylight in order to terrorise anyone else who might criticise Islam. The former did what he did to raise awareness of such acts as that which killed him and to mock such violent people, the latter did what he did in order that no one else (like Hirsi Ali who wrote the movie) might turn away from the Ummah, that is, he did it for the sake of setting up theocratic totalitarianism.

Depends what you mean. They have more Jews in the news than Sikhs, but more "Sikh"-topic stories than "Jew"-topic stories. This is because Jews are more normalised in Canadian society than Sikhs and Canadian media is obsessed with reporting on the "broad strata" of Canadian "communities", not that people actually care what the nature of God is now that new immigrants have come in with The Truth(c) (did you know God doesn't want you to wear a motorcycle helmet anymore? Go figure). How many "Protestant" news stories do you see? The only one really going on lately has been the Anglican church gay marriage thing. Probably more Sikh stories than Protestant stories, yet I think Protestants still form a community of some size in Canada.

So maybe scratch the idea of turning them into Mormons, your best bet is to turn the other half into racists: only problem then is that they'll likely want Manchuria and Taiwan back for their surplus population.
