Good god, it's been so long since I signed for a credit card transaction I can barely even remember it. Next you'll be telling me that the USA prefers to write on bits of paper to send money, taking ages for it to finally be transacted. I wonder. Are there people who are responsible for driving around a nuclear-powered, one-ton robotic laboratory on another planet, who swing by the supermarket before going home and pay for their goods after signing a little bit of paper?
Mind you, chip-and-PIN is hardly secure. The attitudes and policies of merchants is incredible, if you ever have an insider's view.
Definitely agree here. It's cross-platform and I've put it in place for various use-cases and it hums along nicely, efficiently and effectively. As there's a Linux client it'll also run on a NAS box. No need to hand your data out to a third party nor have any dedicated hardware.
/.'s lack of engagement has not been good: I definitely agree with you there. But assuming that the beta will plough ahead, ignorant of the feedback, is a childish, knee-jerk reaction. I shouldn't be surprised; this is the Internet, after all. I'm not sure what you mean by "when there's no Slashdot left?". I think you are delusional. The silly vandalism that's been caused by you lot won't cause/. to disappear. You're simply not important enough.
I am not Switzerland. I'm on the other side to you: I want my news for nerds and stuff that matters, rather than a crusade to release all my pent up aggression.
I think I should have quantified what made me so annoyed by it all. From what I read, a lot of those complaining hadn't seen any indication that the things they disliked/found broken would stay that way. No-one had been closing bugs on a bug database with WONTFIX and telling people their feedback was crap. I certainly think that/. keeping quiet about the feedback they'd received has not been constructive, however. The second major thing that got to me was that if someone's so pissed off with the management of XYZ, then just vote with your feet. The rest of us don't like having to smell the shit that is smeared over the windows:-\
I never realised that 95% of the commenting/. world needs to shut the fuck up. What a bunch of trumped-up, patronising, presumptuous children. Go back to your forums and your usenet flamewars, for goodness sake. Feedback is one thing, activism is the next step, but so many of you have flown off the handle and polluted the comments, tags, and god only knows what else.. Give/. feedback the way they asked and just sod off if the end result isn't want you wanted. I won't miss you.
Some of us are here for the/., not your petulant whinnying.
I've had a few Seagate refurbs that didn't arrive already faulty. They showed signs of failure within the first year. Seagate warranty just means you'll be paying more on postage than a new disk.
Just wait till you play with Privoxy. It uses different sorts of regex for different parts of the URL pattern. You then have two additional problems, rather than just one;-)
I'm surprised that more of the comments here aren't saying exactly that. It smells bad to me, and it's not just mouldy cell cultures. It seems her evidence was so flimsy that it kept falling apart at the slightest touch.
IIRC, the research which found plastic bags will last for "hundreds of years" was in fact looking at plastic bottles. A completely different kettle/plastic container of fish. The times I've gone into a shed, picked up a plastic bag with things in it, and had it disintegrate in my hand tells me that "hundreds of years" is a massive overstatement.
"Verify" that your browser's SSL is secure? Uh, user, you don't seem to understand. We'll look after that. Go back to browsing, now. That's a good user.
Who needs a scripting system that can be comprehended when you can just copy-and-paste gibberish from other sources without ever understanding it?
You think there's something wrong with PowersHell? No problem: there's a scriplet for that.

(insert obligatory Windows / dogshit jokes)
Have you been spying on me whilst I've been watching XCOM: Enemy Within "Let's Play" videos? I knew someone was watching!

SMART is, however, usually right if it says a drive is failing. So if it gives you a 10% chance of a heads-up it's worth monitoring.

Once the government has finished fucking up our Internet access completely.
Well now you've just ruined my terror. I'll have to go read up on the up-coming UK legal hilarity to restore it.
"Find it interesting"? I find it fucking terrifying. There's no way I'll be following that link. That's in bat country.

Wait, there are other people on the planet who find domestic animal ownership abhorrent? Blimey.

Bingo! I do enjoy More Or Less. I just wish there was More of it.

Despite this: death to such disposable bags!

I love that your other, similar, comment was modded up Informative :-)
I bet they'd even have their own supersonic helicopter.
...how will he solve the ice problem?
Whilst this might have been meant as a joke, I think the OP should take it into serious consideration!
...I'm only half way through Permutation City!
56l panniers, plus an extra pair of 24l if need be. Either that or I take my trailer, rated at 100kg.
