Some of them (Dell and Compaq come to mind), are tired of being married to MSFT's software base and want an alternative available. Back when OS/2 still had (consumer market) wind, you had companies blindly tossing money at that, too, because it seemed to be a viable x86 alternative. Now that linux is hyped moving more towards the mainstream (not to mention dozens of companies are developing for it and not one Blue(tm) One), the benefits they'll pull are of being able to jumpship if mainstream customers start demanding an alternative to Windows...
I, for one, am glad I finally have a show that I can use as a vehicle to expose my family TO THE OUR DARK LORD AND MASTER, MEPHISTOPHELES! MUHAHAHAHAHA!
Not Troll, moderators...he caught you on an interesting point. This guy isn't providing us with fact (which would be informative), only his opinion (which, at best, would be interesting; I'd have to side with the AC on this one in that knowing quakeaddict's Usenet habits just aren't that interesting to me). Read the mod FAQ, insert quarter, and try again.
Wrong. Some people have set there accounts specifically to block out off-topic, trollish posts. Believe it or not, some people don't want to waid through Troll Kareoke Night to read comments relevent to the subject at hand. That being said, I'm not one of these people. I like reading well-thought out, amusing posts like this, regardless of whether or not they're on topic. The moderation system works for relavent posts, or funny/offtopic ones, but not for both at the same time. When/. starts valueing the latter over the former, the modding this up would be appropro. Until then, take (Score:-1, Offtopic) as a trophy...at least someone thought enough of it to MOD it down.

He forgot an apostrophe.
You launched that diatribe because his fingers probably slipped and he didn't type an apostrophe. Christ.
It's not like large parts of his message are missing, or that he mispelled a word that throws the entire message in jeopardy. Nearly everyone who read that message knew what he meant without skipping a beat (Check out the spelling in Shakespeare; he sometimes used four or five different spellings for a word. The meaning still came through just fine), and you still took time out to compose a snotty little message about his error. If you're flipping out about this, I'd hate to be around you when something really goes wrong.
Indeed, AOL has a long history of crap like the "breast" incident, making them probably the most prudish company on the Internet. Check out more of their handy work here.
It's the stock one that came with my 98 Ford Escort. At a glance, it looks like its ovular and integrated with the climate controls. However, if you remove the faceplate for the ovular part, you'll find that it's a DIN-style deck, like any other. A special kit is required to replace the face plate so that a regular DIN style stereo can fit in its place. Its an extra step towards replacing it, but it's by no means impossible.
I have both a custom case with a custom disk drive slot and a car with an ovular stereo. Guess what? Niether have given me a problem as far as upgrading goes. The disk drive in my computer is a Mitsumi, cost: $12 wholesale. If I wanted to upgrade the stereo in my Escort, all I'd need is a $40 conversion kit (basically, it's a replacement faceplate with a DIN-style opening cut out). So calm down, dude...no need for the freakin' doom and gloom...
Okay...if everyone here chimes in about how they didn't get laid on NYE, it's going to overload these poor servers and crash Slashdot...I swear, it'll be ten times worse than when the Starr report was released on the Internet...
I disagree...worldwide, banks and financial institutions in general were the first sectors of society to report Y2K compliance. Furthermore, they make more money when their systems work faster and process more transactions. I think it was Citibank who said that the new system they implemented recently allows them to clear checks up to four hours sooner everynight. For banks, money is like product; its worthless until its moved. Therefore, they'll climb over each other to implement tools that help them do this. Of course, they're going to take their time and make sure its safe and secure...if you're refering to that process being slow, well, I just got my dentist's degree from Sally Struthers. Got a toothache? I didn't think so...
You should be able to do this regardless. IANAL, but I've heard from several different sources that, as long as you whip the drive of your new PC on the very first boot (ie, never booting the PC with Windows), you are entitled to a refund through Microsoft (or is it the PC vendor...one or the other) because you rejected the terms of the EULA.
Okay, so Sorenson isn't supported by Linux yet...boo-hoo...and Sorenson is a CSS project, so it must be bad, right? Give it up...when you all bought into Linux, you took the bad as well as the good...open-source software and a community of support is great, but you also bought into not always having the latest toys from every company in the industry, simply because not every vendor is interested and/or can support twelve different OSes. Want Sorenson? Start a campaign to let apple know that there's a market for it on Linux...or write your own codec, or converter, or something, anything...but don't do the/. bitch-and-moan because not every technology his handed to you on a silver frickin' platter...this is the price you pay for your OS...Windows users pay in stability and price, Mac pays for their OS in the fact that they deal with one company for all their hardware...every OS has its drawbacks, Linux included. Don't like it? Then change it, but don't complain here.
In the meantime, go to your local library or university and use one of their Windows or Mac machines to view the video.

That's okay, we understand. Don't worry, when you finally get some, it's going to feel great, I promise.

"most people actually used their real names as their user names. none of that gay Signal 11, foogle, effuegas crap"
Gee, then would you posting as an AC make you both gay and unoriginal? Or just gay and scared to write under your own name?
...and their solutions leave you where you started...
Wouldn't opernsourcing the SlashCode speed up the process of making it portable? Two - Three Sets of Hands vs. Hundreds? Just a thought...
