    What if there was robot based on nanotechnology? It's brain would be AI, but if it uses resources and discards the biproducts in order to grow and reproduce would you consider it alive then?

    There is no "open source alternative" for Photoshop, After Effects, or most of the other high end Adobe products.

    Not yet, but I think many people underestimate the open source movement. As Taco Cowboy pointed out, proprietary software is continually distancing itself from the end users. More and more people are turning to Open Source, and it's not going to stop because it is FREE!

    There will eventually be alternatives for the products you mentioned as well as others. Eventually people are going to be sick of shelling out money for things that they can do for free.

    I do not like our politicians, I do not like many of our laws (I especially do not like the fact that we have the highest incarceration rate in the world), and I do not like our corporations who are tied to our politicians who create the laws that benefit the corporations...

    If not, why do you stay?

    I do intend to leave when I am done with school.

    I still would have recited the Pledge without hesitation

    If you want to say the pledge that's fine, I'm just glad that not every person in America is willing to pledge their allegience to a government that seems to have no allegience with it's citizens.

    We have been broadcasting radiowaves for awhile. Taking precautions against alien invasion may be prudent. I suggest we use the asteroid belt for ore and begin creation of early warning systems and weapons seriously.

    If they have the technology to get here then chances are they will have the technology to defeat any defense systems that we have.

    That's gotta suck. I have a friend with a similar problem (he actually has two eyes but one of them doesn't work worth shit). He's an artist too, so it kind of sucks for him that things are moving towards 3D, and he will never be able to create 3D things himself. Although with improvements in medicine maybe someday he will be able to use both eyes (or just some stupid looking visor).

    Most people don't need anything beyond simple text entry, spell checking, bold, italic and underline. When you write a paper for school or work, it's not supposed to be interesting looking, it's supposed to have CONTENT

    I agree with you mostly. However, I usually use Word for school because it has a grammar check, and me's grammar not always perfect is. (not that Word's is either, but if you use it sensibly it can help you).

    However, ignoring the lack of grammar check I do prefer Open Office. (It is especially usefull for links to .doc files, as I don't really trust Word enough to let it access the internet).

    I believe it's now illegal for telemarketers to block caller id.

    I really doubt this is true. If it was, telemarketers would have much more to worry about than the DNC list. Most telemarketing rooms use T1s to make their calls, which do not show up on caller IDs.

    Ask the telemarketer what company is calling and what company they are calling on behalf of BEFORE you tell them you're on the DNC list.


    Exactly. Also, try to make it sound like your interested in what they are selling when you ask.

    Of course, if enough non-America nations wind up embracing Linux as their sort of official operating system, we could have a situation like the English units/metric units thing...

    I disagree with you on this point. I think the problem is that many Americans have never heard of Linux. If more people new that they could get a free operating system, more people would use it. All that most people want with a computer is internet, email, and an office suite. These things are no harder to use in Linux than Windows, and if more people new they could use them for free, then more people would use Linux.

    You missed bwalling's point. He already knows the common definition of ISP, what he was asking about is the legal definition. They are often quite different things.

    This is known as the technical term rule. Scott, 110 Wn.2d at 689-90. A term is technical if its legal definition differs from the common understanding of the word. Brown, 132 Wn.2d at 611.

    I've often wondered that myself. Bill Gates, is an intelligent person. Why doesn't this show in his software? It wouldn't have been hard to have made Windows default settings more secure. What makes Bill want it this way?

    Or, maybe he is just stupid.

    I've never been called by a telemarketer representing Pepsi. They must already know that I prefer Pepsi over Coke*.
