Not necessarily. Why do you think that. Look at Widnwos. Competition didn't allow Microsoft to become big. It's about tolerance and the destruction of evil for the benefit of all computer users.

Look... honestly, the only reason I see that people use other distros is for the petty differences. All WIndows users have to put up with it's crap. I think we should be forced to tolerate a unified Linux distro. It's hardly anything anyways compared to the garbage people have to put up with in Windows. So, if you can put your pettiness aside and realize that we need to take out Microsoft with a unified Linux distro then maybe Linux has a change in hell. It's unbelievable how everyone is going nuts over the Loghorn screenshots too. What a joke.

I agree that this is going to happen inevitably, but I'm not sure it's a great thing for everyone. I'd love to see a smartphone with an open platform, maybe even running linux, someday. Hackers are writing a lot of cool software for PDAs.

I doubt that we're going to get the same thing on phones, though. Mobile phone makers seem intent on keeping everything proprietary, and wireless companies are making money from charging content providers for access to their networks. I think history is going to repeat itself, yet again. Hardware makers are going to try to lock users with proprietary software. It'll probably be years before I'll be able to run my own software on my own phone. Stupid, huh? That's the computer industry for you.

But bugs not being publicly known doesn't mean there are people out there who wouldn't know about them. Let's say no bugs were ever publicly revealed therefore MS never pathces them. Total caos.

When comparing commercial to open source software why is everyone always of the opinion that each have their places. Fact: Open source software is better than proprietary. There's no arguement here. Windows for example has more driver support, etc... that doesn't mean it's better. So I should say then that open source software is coded better than Proprietary. Always has been. alwyas will be forever and ever amen. There is no god damn place for proprietary software because making software "for profit" as opposed to actually making it functional is not making software. That's called bullshit. People need things that work. That's like comparing the geo metro to the Ferrari... besides... Humans weren't meant to live in a capitalist society. We were meant to be one with nature, to treat each other like brothers and sisters and to release good free software. Why justify shit if it's such shit? Please don't try to justify it.

*slap to the forehead*... see, but that's where you're wrong. This is exactly the attitude that allows things like these to happen. It may not be apocalyptic but it is very serious. This isn't a joke, but time and time again, what's the very first post made on any given article on slashdot let alone a serious one? A joke. And that's not right. You have to realize the repercussions of something like this. They're huge. Sure, anyone in the know can just not download it now, but what about when it comes built in to loghorn and all versions of windows after that? The unsavvy will be clueless. This will affect every person and every company who uses a computer and windows... And what about open source software? What about making your own programs? Just don't use windows right? Many of the best tools, programs, games, etc are on windows. People who say "just don't use windows" don't realize it's not as easy as that. It's getting serious folks. Something has to be done soon about getting Linux to go mainstream. And fast.
