I have to agree with you... I also opted to let the wife have the fancy flip top phone with the neat-o features and I was a gentleman and took the cheap-o motorola 120e. I just plug my phone in the car power adaptor when I drive to and from work and its always fully charged, in fact I've long since mis-placed the outlet charger but thats okay...never used it except the 1st day I brought it home. My wifes phone is always on the charger at home and everytime I call her she has to cut it short because she is nearly out of charge. I have dropped my phone umpteen times and still no problems with it. My buddy at work just got on verizon after problems with his previuos carrier and he ended up with a flimsy-ass cheap blue plastic thing with what looks like a childs toy walkie-talkie antenna...personally I'd be embarrased to carry it. Is Verizon still offering the 120e?...if they are he just got screwwd.
Nobody here claimed that renting and returning videos was "such a traumatic experience" but it's like in the early 1900's when most cars were started with a crank where you had to go stand in front of your car and manually crank your engine started in the friggin -12 below freezing wind chill weather... as soon as they offered push button starts and keyed starters it became A BETTER MORE CONVENIENT way to do it. With the rediculously high late fees of rental stores, the rushed feeling of having to watch the movie NOW NOW NOW And with there being much better business models and options available to the consumer I would say that yes, driving out of your way to a video store to return a video that you were forced to watch on a night you did'nt want to in order to get it back in time and still being late and having to pay that friggin fee... renting a movie and returning it to the video store has become a burdon, a burdon nobody has to put up with anymore...feel free to keep cranking your car started if you feel the need, the rest of us are moving on.
mining materials from the moon is not going to alter the tides or change the position of the moon's orbital path... and as for your point on Bush wanting to put trash on the moon... It's actually a great idea. Just as soon as we get that damned space elevator working I say we designate a large crater as the 1st lunar landfill.
unfortunatly the fish in question only glow under a blacklight which I think are not found in a natural aquatic enviornment...so the aquatic equivalent to a firefly is not quite an acurate description/analogy since they don't really light up...so HA HA! You are wrong! Ha Ha...um,...sorry..I'll shut up now..
This is actually a bit frightening when you think about it. If it took them nearly a month to find this problem imagine if it were a much more serious threat. You would hope that the station would have sensitive enough monitering equipment to detect where problems are occurring. I would probably think twice about spending my powerball winnings on a vacation to the ISS and wait till the Hilton is on the moon,...no not Paris you dirty minded/.er, although 0-Gravity sex......nevermind.
too tru... I know people at the DMV (department of motor vehicles) that have illegally looked up info on people they disliked to use against them for various reasons. Also to help people who for whatever reason couldn't get a drivers licence to obtain one with false information. Its not that the DMV is an evil institution (mattet of opinion, I know) but some people employed there take advantage of their position and the power they have. I knew a cop who would use his power and position to help himself and his friends in ways that just aren't fair, the patriot act will be abused by these types.
Another interesting thing that keeps popping upon t.v. and in movies is a unique geological cliff formation called vasquez rocks (it's in California) I use to go there on pic-nics and field trips when I was a kid. This slanted pointy cliff has been in at least two episodes of startrek (the original series when kirk is fighting the lizard man) and also star trek tng. Its been in tons of western tv shows, sci-fi movies, commercials up the wazoo. Evrytime I see it I think hey, I use to live a mile away from there...how funny. Actually if you were to stay in that spot for a year you would most likely meet every person ever associated with the entertainment industry... eventually. I'd like to see a list of shows and movies filmed there, its sure to be a few pages long.
oh!, you said "NORSE" mythology?!?! I thought this was a game about "NURSE" mythology... Now thats a MMORPG I might shell out $40 bucks for. I almost had to change my Christmas list.
I will say that just reading your post does make me want to check out the series again... from the beginning. Ahh, if only our only responsibilities were to entertain ourselves, then I'd have enough time to give the attention deserved to each passed over show...alas....
How strange... I am a huge sci-fi fan, have been since birth I figure. In my opinion the two worst sci-fi shows ever aired on t.v. were Babylon 5 and Andromeda, the two shows you seem to think are better than Firefly. Firefly was/is a friggin great show, I loved it when it was on Fox. I never could watch the bubblegum sci-fi-pop garbage hurcules crap Andromeda...pink space chicks...neat-o, and Babylon 5 just kept me drowsy enough to enter a deep coma for an hour at a time. Its funny how our opinions of what good sci-fi is differs so widely isnt it?
I agree with you, I loved the original series when I was 8-9 years old. It was my favorite thing on tv and I missed it when they cancelled it. I had high hopes for the new mini-series and I liked it even more than I thought I would...awesome! Thanks a ton sci-fi channel
If it's not our place to decide what a species should or shouldn't do than why do we have the intelectual and technological ability to do it? By your logic we should'nt travel in airplanes because we were'nt meant to fly...HOGWASH I SAY!
sorry but californians going out of state to buy these fish is probably not going to happen, at least not succesfully. Unless those who do so have a portable generator to run their aquarium pumps on the five to six hour drive there, and five hours back...the fishys will ALL DIE! I've had fish die on the half hour trip home from the mall...they really dont like temperature changes and such:(
But I'm telling you that there is a very good chance that they will be released. My friend could'nt just come out and say he was working on new episodes as he is bound by a non-disclosure agreement, but he eluded to the fact that IF he was working on fresh effects shots for Firefly that they MIGHT be released on Sci-fi channel or as a collection to be released on DVD. All I know for a FACT is that some kind of new life is in the works for the show.
That was the scene that made me want to watch Firefly every friday night. When he kicked him into the engine I stood up laughing and telling my wife this is the best friggin sci-fi show on tv! I have a buddy in the special effects industry who actually worked on effects shots for Firefly. He's not allowed to say anything but from subtle hints I garnered that Firefly probably ain't dead, which leads me to believe that either SciFi channel will be picking it up, or at the verry least a DVD with unreleased episodes (maybe even an entire unseen season)! is in the works...Keeping my fingers crossed...jeez I loved that show.
actually yes, I have heard of google (smartass):P... but it seems I was hit by a virus that dis-abled me from using any search engine except dogpile.com and no matter what I try to do to fix it from the forums I am able to find...nothing has worked. As I am probably not as computer savy as most who read slashdot I have alot of trouble with these virus issues and seem to be a bit slow on the "understanding how to fix dept."
...I got those damn pop-up messenger ads from those assholes every ten minutes for the past four or more months...it got so bad I just had to unplug my cable internet connection unless I was surfing. I was actually really suprised when I stopped getting them around 10:00pm last night, I guess I know why now. Maybe the government is usefull after all:P
...the Pie chart, and I get paid very poorly as I design various pie charts...thus I refuse to make my pie charts more accurate until I am a member of a Pie chart creators union!!!!
I also have read extensivly on the subject of string theory. I found the PBS program to be VERY helpful in laying out difficult to understand concepts and actually making things understandable to the laymen, or armchair (wannabe) physicist. Another great source for string theory information is at http//www.mkaku.org...and Michio Kaku's book "Hyperspace" is a fun and informative read, I highly suggest it for anyone interested in learning more about string theory.
I say we sell off the old ISS to china and build a new one for ourselves(USA) with plush new carpeting, 5 pt surround sound and a gourmet kitchen complete with 5 star chef. Then we can open it up to tourists and Lance Bass can finally become the first pop-star to die, err...live in space!
This has been done before, by Peter Gersten of CAUS (Citizens against UFO Secrecy)...He attempted to sue the DOD for ufo documents concerning the Phoenix lights of 1997. It was funny actually, I was working for a sci-fi/paranormal web portal at the time and actually sat in the courtroom watching the proceedings. Of cours the lawsuit never ammounted to any secret documents being exposed it did show just hoe much the DOD likes to keep what they know a secret. It might have worked out better for CAUS if Peter wasn't such a geek...not the/. kind of geek, the bad kind.

They just wanted an excuse to look in Uma Thurman's jeans, err, genes.
