This site seems to debunk much of the hype over ethanol. It also has some choice things to say about the "hydrogen economy".
I don't know how credible their analysis is, comment if you think it's crapola or not.
Come on people. Right to your senators. Let them know this is not acceptable to you. You've only got 2 of them and they've got a webform. Give "fair use" two minutes of your time. Here is what I sent in:
Dear Senator,
I write to you today in opposition to H.R.2391 which seeks to lump several controversial copyright bills into one for swift passage through the lame-duck session of congress. Copyright law exists to protect the interests of the citizens, not just those of corporations. This bill harms the "fair use" rights of citizens and puts too much power in the hands of the "entertainment" industry, among others. These bills deserves at least the chance to face fair and open hearings and to be debated carefully. Please vote against this bill.
The only mud that matters, Achaea.com, is having their annual "Logosween" events. Most are player organized and involve costumes, parties, contests and generally mischief making.
Journal size! By specifying a larger journal size at creation time (or late with tune2fs) you can gain significant speed. The default is 32megs. If you're pushing a lot of data into and off of disk rapidly (busy mailserver), increasing this to 128mb will help (along with things like mounting with "noatime" ).
Being able to tune your tools for a specific purpose is what makes all of these filesystems great. But you've got to learn to use them properly!
The future of these technologies is controlled right here in my hands (and your's). Where we spend out money will determine what succeeds and what fails. Without a market for digitally restricted media, the MPAA will cease to be. The fundemental demand for new technologies is founded in our own desire to be entertained. If we want to be able to save shows on our PVRs then we will be able to. The illution of control can be blinding, but just because the industry wants the control doesn't mean they will get it. Watch closely, this will all come to a head in the next 5 years.
TiVo is the best commercial product I've ever bought. I've got a Sony 30hr model, modded with a 80gig Maxtor drive( now 130hr ). Basic cable is now finally worth $35. I recommend everyone pick one up, even if you don't want to spend $750 to fully trick it out.
There are 3 companies (not Bells) that have their OWN dsl equipment. Covad and Rythms have been mentioned, but don't forget about DSL.net. Unlike Speakeasy or Telocity, DSL.net is a DSL provider AND an ISP. I have a 1.5Mb SDSL line from them in Connecticut and have never had a problem with it (over a year now). They DO have a service level agreement that specifies exactly what I'll get and what they'll do. For markets that they don't have their own DSL equipment they partner with Covad. And I sleep easy, DSL.net has one of the best balance sheets of anyone in the industry. They had some lay-offs last year, but now they look good (look at their SEC filings online).
I used to work for the smallest ISP (employee wise) in connecticut: iconn.net. With 5 people (on a good day) the staff was small to say the least. But everyone knew their job, and usually part of someone elses. Customer Service was good, most of the customers knew the staff by name if they called much. Network equipment was first-class, servers were Linux based and rock solid. We gave customers fair expectation of what they would get for their money, and I think most people on ICONN were getting a really good value. Today it's even easier to start a small ISP. The telco's are forced to work with you more, standards are in place for services, and software exists to support your business. We're not in the wild-wild-west of 1994 anymore. I for one would always rather be connected to a small ISP, where my connection matters to them. Even large ISPs (such as my new job) have heart. I'm trying to start the same vibe here among the techs and admins (the suits will never get it). Long-Live the small ISP!
The glorious BeOS has never crashed on anyone I know of (perhaps 10 hardcore BeOS users). Besides the fact that only 4 BeOS boxen were in the survey, most people who use BeOS also use another OS. I for one have Winblows 98 on here so I can play some phat FPSs. My uptime is very seldom more than 24 hours, often its 19 just before I reboot. Do any other BeOS users feel this is why the BeOS uptimes are pretty low? I know if Q3A were out for BeOS (i've seen it running on BeOS at PC Expo, just waiting for it to be released) then I would almost never need to reboot, except to play Worms Armageddon.

We've got no business causing spinal injuries to animals, or any injuries for that matter. Test them on humans if humans are who they aim to benefit.

Shut it down! Someone paid you to host this, pass that information along to the authorities.
What does this mean to the Disney MGM park? Is Mickey Mouse going to have to carry a walkman now?
I assume they are going to keep the MGM branding, but has anyone heard anything else about this?
