Let's make this real, vehicles must be equipped to :
Avoid hub-cap thieves.
Deal with homeless window-washers.
Handle crazy taxi-cab drivers.
Deal with traffic detours and malfunctioning signals.
Understand parking, loading, no stopping and no standing zones.
Not run over pedestrians who jaywalk.
Avoid accident scences/traffic congestion by planning on-the-fly alternate routes.
Be able to pay Tolls.
Stop, Look, Listen at Railroad crossings.
Be able to do this in even in Snow conditions.
Properly prepared, an urban course will be MORE challenging than the Desert course. Sure terrian won't be such an issue but the environment is much more dynamic, and the weather is still a factor.
Ever think part of that is Windows itself? Compare the same Benchmarks for JVMs on Windows and Solaris, you'll see Solaris and also Linux perform better than Windows.

Read your own references. PURE software (such as a math algorithm) is not patentable. The software is patentable IF used in a PROCESS that is patented. It starts getting into the "methods and concepts" arguments that SCIO has tried to use vs IBM. Business Methods and Concepts as embodied in a process containing software are patentable. That's how Amazon got the patent on "one-click" as process of their business model (selling books on the web) as expressed in the software running Amazon.com (the website). Software in a Cash Register that just rings up Sales in not likely patentable but change that software to support the way McDonalds does things and it becomes part of McD's business process and is then patentable. It's a fine line sometimes but it's still a line and you need to know where it is.
I was refering to our trade defeciet with China. Oil certainly adds to the overall number but more consumer goods are boughtthat are "Made in China" every day than oil used from the Middle East.

Not very fsking likely, the US is the biggest market in the world for Asian products. Just look at the Trade Deficeit. If everyone cross licenses patents, then this isn't an issue anyway. Depending on the $$ in the market they may be giving up too much, then they just pay the patent fee. Open source software is a possible solution to the issue but thats not immune from silly-ass lawsuits (see SCO vs IBM). Besides in the USA, software is only copyrighted not patented (yet).
Some 1U server mfgs have "zoned cooling". The Sun AMD servers (X4100/X4200) have seperate airflow channels for the disk drives and the CPU/Memory so each gets lots of cooler air w/o air passing over one, getting hot and then having less cooling for the other parts downstream. They also have hot-swap fans something else the home PC market should consider. Those servers can be packed with 3GHz CPUs, 64GB memory and 4 disk drives and still run cool.
Sun has a 60 day try and buy on T1 systems (T1000 & T2000), go check it out at sun.com. Late last year they were running promotions where they shipped you a T2000 for doing benchmarks and blogging about it. Some of the best bloggers are going to get to keep the systems.
WRONG! Small business bears the brunt of the IRS. We are more audited than any other class of taxpayers. We can't deduct a lot of items big companies can since most of us as cash based businesses (not accrual based). Ever tried to take a home office decduction as a small biz? Thats a big red flag for an audit. We have already had meals and travel cut back to only 50% deductible. And its not the "honor system", you DO have to have receipts. IMO, large business get all manner of tax breaks, carry forward/carry back of losses, foreign tax credits, worker training credits, property tax breaks, etc. plus they can hire smart accountants to figure out where to save taxes. That being said, I would rathter the Gov't didn't tax the profits distributions (i.e. dividends) to investors, as that is DOUBLE taxation.
ROTFLMAO..a NOLA politician who DOESN'T line his/her own pockets would be a first. What this person means is I want to screw them over in the future by raising taxes and or fees to pay for the Free Wi-Fi service. I want to campaign and get money under the table on the "Free Wi-Fi For Everyone" platform. I want to control who can access the network, and where the nodes are installed (someone gets paid to put up the network right? Why not his company or his buddies company?) There will be Wi-Fi Boards just like the Levee Boards, corrupt and untouchable.
The telcos just want to screw then now and forever, it's just a matter of timing. Get screwed now or get screwed later. Take your pick. The citizens don't win in the long run.
Obviously you have never had access to Classified defense/intelligence material or plans. You are talking from ignorance. I am talking from experience. As soon as you tell the public you have told your enemies.
If you want to stop this, then say there is a time period, say 60 days before each election that currently elected members can campaign/fund raise for the candidate/party. Lots of presidents spend time away from DC (it sucks there!), but the Government is still with them. Each presidential retreat has excellent communications just as if he was at the White House. It's also a way to entertain people out of the eyes of everyone in Washington or discuss sensitive issues without "leaks" 15 minutes later.

P.S. learn to do your homework on something before commenting, then learn to write and learn to spell.
The bandwidth is there, 5,000 servers worth. Major companies have been using the grid on a contract basis for quite some time, this was the first time it was open to "Mom and Pop" to use to balance the checkbook. It's NOT a publicity stunt, crap like this happens all the time, Sun just admitted to it most companies don't.
Pay attention to the details on that testing in the article. This
"The AMD system used 1GB of DDR400 running at 2-2-2/1T timings, while the Intel system used 1GB of DDR2-667 running at 4-4-4"
Make a HELL of a differnce in performance. Also note they used an Intel Motherboard for the Intel and an DIY (not bad but not the best) for the AMD. They too can make a difference. Seems the reviewers were not looking or didn't want to look either.."Honestly it doesn't make sense for Intel to rig anything here since we'll be able to test it ourselves in a handful of months. We won't say it's impossible as anything can happen, but we couldn't find anything suspicious about the setups." Intel didn't announce General Availabily dates (6 months maybe) being "king" for a few months can get CIOs to pre-order systems.
Also another myth about lower power..the article clearly states "Also remember that Conroe should be lower power than the AMD offering we compared it to, although we weren't able to measure power consumption at the wall in our brief time with the systems."
Beware pre-production chips used for testing. I'm not an AMD or Intel fan, I just want to see a fair test.
Open Source is the future, no matter how much M$ wants to spend to market thier closed systems, someone will eventually come up with an Open Source solution to the same problem(s). Also, don't forget that ALL of Sun's software INCLUDING Solaris is Open Source, Novell now owns SUSE and that's open source. If we could only get IBM to OpenSource DB2 or Oracle to OpenSource thier DBs we would have NO reason to buy from M$. I got to think M$ knows this so they are trying to win via marketing and I think this time the landscape is diffent and it won't work. Many CxO's love OpenSource, esp if there is a name like Sun, IBM, Novell they can trust behind it!
What a f*cking crock of crap from the left wing "Civil Liberties" people. In fact the law is NOT needed at all, it's already a crime to reveal the existance of classified programs, and revealing a undercover operation by the police is also a crime. This is a left wing massive over-reaction to the "Domestic Spying" which is 100% LEGAL,as it does NOT target calls within the USA to another USA destination, and for those calls that are point-to-point in the USA the callers are "persons of interest in a Federal Criminal Investigation" which is also quite legal. Getting a judge to sign off is really a formality as when they see the evidence they usually will sign off. If you read the law, they are NOT breaking it and by the way every President INCLUDING BlowJob Bill used the provision in the law.
Write this down, UNLESS you are a terrorist or are plotting terrorist acts with another citizen (and someone turned your name in) the Gov't is NOT listening to your calls.
Congress knew all about this program for a long time, they got regular briefs, and they just choose to stir up sh*t in an election year. They (the liberals) really don't give as damn about National Security they just want to try to find SOMETHING to criticize GWB about. It's to the point where it is downright funny, they are grasping at anything to try to get an edge.
From your description they just re-invented the Modem using Digital instead of Analog and with encryption. This isn't new, the STU-XX secure phones used by the Government for Classified voice calls work very much the same way. Might be some IP infringement issues with thier work as well.
Several spec sheets show Athlon 64 dual core at 93W and 65 degrees C MAXIMUM for case temp, both Intel and AMD use that measure. Internal chip temps are not published. In fact I've never seen a Thermal image of either chip showing hot spots.
One review of an Athlon 64 X2 stated "...Athlon 64 X2 4800+ was able to run our benchmarks with an operating temperature of less than 40 degrees Celsius." (http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/h753.htm).
Until the Conroe chip goes into volume production I'm skeptical about Intel's claims.
The big question is going to be is when Intel makes a chip that runs fast AND runs cool. The Conroe is still as big of space heater as the older chips are. The AMDs are just a bit slower in everyday apps (90% of the users are not gamers and don't care about FPS) but it's a hell of a lot cooler. HEAT matters to those who run data centers.
Most mega-corps are not going to switch to open-source Networking gear for one major reason. Support sucks, you call Cisco and (assuming you have paid for maintenance) they fix it quick. An open-source platform has an issue, many times you fix it yourself if you can or post to the Newsgroups or call the developers (if you can) or Google a fix. That can be quite time-consuming. If your network is down business isn't getting done and you don't have time to self-engineer a fix. It also costs a lot more than maintenance fees cost to have folks like that (who can fix it..maybe) on your staff.
Foundry and Alacatel..hmmm..I've been in dozens of corporate data centers and talked to 100's of customers and Foundry comes up once in a while but never Alacatel. Perhaps they are used more in Europe? I'm speaking about the USA only.
