That could be a problem for newbies. I have had three people (?converts?) and all have asked about things like which directory, i386 or Alpha? This seems easy to all of us, but to non-computer literate people, it may be a stumbling block. This is why my bet is still the x86 platform for Linux. It will make things much easy for the newbies (which, in a few years, will greatly out number us).

Maybe it's beacuse most of my friends (and me included) learned BASIC as our first programming language. Hmm....In fact, I bet a lot of geeks learned like me, with an early version of DOS (2.0) and an Apple IIE (sorry, I was 5, I couldn't program in Binary or Hexadecimal yet!!!) learned to program BASIC.

According to the laws of physics, there should be an equal amount of anti-matter as there is matter. There should be anti-galaxies, anti-stars and anti-civilazations (hehehe). Also, when anti-matter and matter collide, they 'cancle out' each other, or they dissapear.
However, I was watching a TV show and it showed that if we could harness the power of anti-matter, it would take about a chunk of anti-matter the size of a shirt pocket button to launch the space shuttle (hmm...no wonder NASA wants to find this stuff).
Also, speaking in theory, shouldn't there be neutral matter? There are protons (positive), electrons (negitive) and neutrons (neutral), anti-electrons (positive), anti-protons (negitive) and anti-neutrons (neutral), why not neutral-matter?

First, I don't know what you excactly mean by 'radio spectrum.' But anyway, whatever that means, our radio waves are only a few decades worth of light years in space. I assume they would have been 'broadcasting' a lot longer, but, if they are 300 million light years (not that long in Space) their radio waves might not be here yet. Hmm...they would also have to go (?faster then?) the speed of light (or 300,000Kmph), this would allow them to overcome the distance. (note: It also might not be any disadvantage to them if we see them, so they don't really care).

First, let me say that I am a Libretarian and I don't support the government having anything to do with technology, the Internet or pretty much anything else.
These are the reasons that an E-mail tax will never happen (at least in my lifetime).
1: Impractical, the congress and president (and Al Gore) have no idea when it comes to technology. They don't know that it is impossible, but I do. It would be very hard (impossible) to log all e-mails, the tax would basically become voulntary. If the tax is voulntary (although, we already have a 'voulntary tax system', reall check it out) nobody would pay (note: even if it becomes invoulntary, I still woln't pay:-))
2: Not that the government pays much attention to this document anymore, but the constitution dosen't allow it.
3: Why charge taxes on private networks? Maybe if the government still kept the network running and payed for it all, but not anymore.
4: You can just write another program, change the ports to 26 and 111 and call it whatever you like. It's no longer e-mail.
5: You can also IM somebody just as fast (faster) then you can send an e-mail.
Will all the facts stated above, I believe that we don't have to worry about a e-mail tax. But if we do, then I will personally, set up a server in New Zeland that will provide free e-mail to all.

Most of the Slashdot comments I have seen have portrayed Evolution as fact. When, in fact, Evolution is a theory, just as any other scientifically established theory. There are facts supporting Evolution, but there are also facts discrediting Evoultion. Maybe this has brought up the question "Is Evolution a 'de facto' standard?" It is fact just beacuse that is what everybody thinks. In our search for the truth, we have lost it instead. Should we all use Windows just beacuse everybody else uses it, beacuse it is the de facto standard? Should we teach Evolution just beacuse everybody else teaches it, beacuse it is the standard? It is ignorant to think Evolution is fact, that we should teach it as fact, or that we should accept it as fact. Ignorance is the enemy, truth is the answer.
