You're right, and if you RTFA, you'll see that he says the exact same thing. He says that the work of the FSF is not yet done, and the more people who read about GNU and are attracted by the philosphy the better. So since GNU software is a significant part of Linux (the OS not the kernel), he feels that they deserve the free advertising.
I tend to agree, if only because the "Free software" movement is still in its infancy - there's a long road ahead. If the fight gad been won, then the naming issue would be trivial indeed.
IIRC, initially Navigator was not free ($25 or something). It was only after MS started giving away IE that they started offering Navigator for free.
Free browsers were great for the consumer in the short term, but bad in the long term. Its only recently that the consumers have started recovering from this.
If you read above, you will see that MS was notified about this 40 days ago. How much longer should they have waited before announcing the vulnerability? If MS doesn't respond for a year, should they keep the vulnerability hidden? You have to realize that, in the meantime, the code for this will be all over the underground forums.
I'd very much rather the vulnerabilities are reported than not. At least this way I can take evasive action.
Sorry, nowhere does the GPL prohibit selling the software. In fact there are many companies making mucho dinero from seeling open-source software. The GPL just states that you also need to distribute the source along with the software.
Looks like too many people on slashdot have brought into the FUD.
I also remember the last time Linus went up against RMS - related to BitKeeper - and who was proved right (yet again). RMS may be a zealot, but he's a zealot on MY side.
You might want to try the new visual Swing editor in Netbeans 5.0. I know, everyone uses Eclipse (even though it doesn't support half the things Netbeans does). The new visual editor really rocks.
This is pretty much the system that is used in India. Its pretty simple, and seems to work just fine. I wish all these e-voing machine guys would remember the KISS principle.
Exactly! I wish I had mod-points. We keep hearing about that distinction, and people need to realize that most democracies are not direct democracies anyway.
IANAL, but wouldn't that be illegal? Isn't behavior like that the reason we hate adware/spyware? I'm pretty sure Google would be able to sue MS if they pulled something like that.
An alternative could have been to use BeOS as the kernel - they're just letting all that good code rot! I hope someone in that company remembers they own BeOS
Actually, I found that playing the game in turn-based mode was the best. I think they should have made this the default. I would, however, recommend Arcanum to people. It was lots of fun.
I think most of us have forgotten that it took great sacrifices by our ancestors to get the freedoms (in society) that we currently enjoy.
I would argue that without sacrifices we cannot achieve freedom. It seems to me that the sacrifices the FSF are asking us to make are significantly less than those made by our ancestors.
That said, I do agree with the basic premise of the article that we often need to use proprietary software to achieve our needs. The solution is better free software - not giving up the fight.

Ever heard of concepts like 'ftp'?

I do agree with you in spirit, but as long as they support exporting the bookmarks to a text or html format, we should be fine.
Well it won't be so much of a pain, once the "Undo Close Tab" feature is implemented. IIRC, it should be a part of Fx 2.0 (not sure though).
Heh! The wikipedia entry has already been pulled up for possible copyright violation. Someone must be reading /.

Actually, F = 32 + (9/5)*C, which comes to about 0.72 F. So the OP was right.

Maybe the good guys should just move to a new swimming pool? Who is John Galt, anyway?

You must be new here. The editors never catch typos

Remember Gil Bates?
