So, you're saying in a city with a population density of over 12,000 per square mile there are more reported instances of police mistakes, complaints and allegations of corruption than you find in a largely rural county with a density of 567 per square mile? Shocking.

  2. Re:I'm just wondering... on Two Arrested For Zbot Trojan · · Score: 1
I'm guessing, but it could be because the Greater Manchester Police Authority does not have a sufficiently-resourced e-crime unit to take on this case.

Perhaps in these cases the arresting officers, or at least a support team, must have appropriate training in technology-related crimes, or risk the charges not sticking once the case gets to the courts.

Think how important it might be to make sure all relevant devices are confiscated at the point of arrest. An untrained eye could miss something vital.

Or, it could just be bureaucracy.

We already kill ourselves in large numbers each year using cars, tobacco, junk food and alcohol, without any help by religious extremists. They're not even going to make a dent.

This proposed legislation has little to do with protection of the citizenry and more to do with making sure that those in power, remain in power.

Too late, BTbroadband. I recently ended my 'unlimited' (which is actually limited) service with them and moved to a provider who doesn't think its OK to inspect and modify my traffic in order to make advertising revenue.

As a bonus, I get a truly unlimited connection which is over 3x faster than BT could offer, a one month rolling contract, no cancellation fee, no port blocking and a nice cPanel customer portal, all for about 3GBP more a month. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

You may be right for a considerable subset of consumers, but as long as there are film nerds, there is a market for Bluray or other premium delivery formats. The chance to to own examples of your favourite art form delivered at original film frame rate in 2k progressive resolution and with lossless audio in the comfort of your own home is too tempting to ignore.

I'm sure, 4k displays and content will arrive in time, but for most of these customers, their home can't accommodate a screen large enough to do 4096x2160 justice, which means Bluray will be around for some time to come.

Residents already pay a separate charge to park their car in the streets of the borough.

I'm not opposed to the idea, but the execution was flawed.

What I don't get it this is Slashdot, why is this even an issue for anyone here?

I'm reasonably certain hardly any of you buy video content from iTunes. Even if you do, this will only affect a subset that have an older digital display and wish to output said content to it.

These are brand new computers, designed for use with today's technology.

At some point Apple was going to have to support HDCP and how many displays built today, support 720p and 1080p but not HDCP? None worth their salt I'll wager.

I only casually keep up to date on digital display tech, but even I was clued up enough to make sure the TV I bought earlier this year supported HDCP.

In my opinion, you're simply not yet good enough for the situation to rear its head. Console controllers can be used to play FPS, but you will hit a skill plateau very quickly.
Also, that plateau is more noticable in some titles than it is in others. In Halo it was blatant, because in order to be triumphant there is nothing else the player need do than manouver, aim and shoot. In something like Rainbow Six, there's ever so slightly more to the gameplay. It's not so much of a twitch-shooter and that means that better aim or movement doesn't translate into victory quite so often.
There is not, as yet, any replacement for the keyboard and mouse as a control system for fast, aim and movement-based FPS. Try loading up Quakeworld with your Dualshock and see how much fun you have.

The problem with extra content is that somebody has to generate it and debug it. I mean, yeah, we would have loved to add tons of new character classes and weapons and levels and quests, but the fact is that spending twice as long making the game wouldn't have generated twice the sales. Even all the different colorings on the pieces of armor - I watched our artists wandering around the office for *days* with long reams of paper, doublechecking that every single armor color matched up properly (and boy did I not envy them, although I did the same thing with the minimaps, so there you have it.) Content, unfortunately, is surprisingly expensive to produce. :/

Offtopic, but I wanted to say that the effort shows. My friends and I greatly enjoyed Champions of Norrath and played the hell out of it to try and collect all the unique items. The huge amount of content was definitely evident (to the point that the ps2 noticeably struggles to access it all on occasion). BTW, are you working on the sequel?
