    The funniest thing, I saw ALL of this on an iBook a while back. The customer said they hadn't touched it. There was a long blonde hair inside and one of "these manuals" on the hard drive.

    Pssst: the customer has along haired blonde.


    Hey, it was the little blonde computer troll. He has gotten inside my computers too. He comes out when there's sunlight cause that's when i scurry away to hind.

    I don't think they can shut it down. You aren't trying to reverse engineer their technology. You aren't violating the DMCA. It would be like GM forcing down a website with instructions on how to mod your car. There is no grounds.

    There is a big difference between the Metric system and this. The difference is times have changed. The US is no longer as dominant as it used to be. It is ahead but by not as much. And we are now on a world economy where the US is getting knocked out of the drivers seat. You don't keep you spot there by dictating the rest of the world do something. It's competition. You get there by doing it better than anyone else. And the US (I live there) at it's current rate will not stay as the world leader.

    Not to sound like an Apple zealot (I'm far from it), but it seems like you've bought into the "Mhz myth" hook, line and sinker.

    hehe, my daily used desktop for almost all my personal stuff is a G4 running OS X 10.3. I am also an electrical engineer who has done chip design. I really do understand the inner workings of a chip.

    On the note of the fan. Make then quieter. I believe I read a /. article about fans coming to market that run almost silent.

    We also live in a disposable society. DIsposable cars, chips, and everything else. They make things to not last long so you have to buy new ones. That's business. Going for longer lasting items is literally a foreign concept.

    Longer batterylife for laptops

    I use a desktop, I don't care about my battery life there.

    Silent PC's

    It's the fan in my pc that's loud not the processor. even small fans make noise.

    Longer lifetime of the processor

    I still have a couple Pentium I with MMX running and without a hitch. How much longer are you talking about?

    If you know how to use a library you can find information fairly easily. The hardest part is walking to the different sections. Students today have such a hard time with librarys that my college put a video together for every incoming student and part of a required course teaches you how to find things at a library. There are many different ways. Librarys are a lot more than jsut books, you just have to know how to use it.

    Just like there are many computer illiterates, there are library illiterates. They know the basics but not how to really harness the power

    This is an uncommon question for your average person. It is even an uncommon type of question. They are looking at more common questions your average user would ask. That is a better test. If you know this question you probubally don't even need to search google but can go directly to the site.

    Like you said, you didn't know the other places to search for things. My kid sister has the same problem. She doesn't know other places to find information other than the web. This is a shortcoming we now have because we rely to much on one source and grew up doing it.

    As far as looking for the information in places other than the net, I found my mom knows all those places and where to find things quickly without the web or google.

    Google doesn't fare that well in a lot of areas. In the test they ran it through goodle faired about equal to the library. Google mat have more searches on technical data but many things such as history the library is a much better source.

    What this shows is that google isn't the know all. That when all things are considered there are other places to look for information and some may be better sources. Like the right tool for the right job that is the same here. There is no end all tool.

    Many schools such as the one I attended (University) do teach the right things. Such as software archicecture, good programming practices, etc. They give you the skills to get the job done. They may cost more but you get what you pay for.

    I am an engineer working with programmers and one of the biggest issues I have is getting them to implement some of the complex math in their code. Many struggle with it and that is a huge problem.

    Why can't one software product "beat" it's competition simply by being better? Why the need to litigate? Be No. 1 because your product is the best, not because you need the law to make it No. 1.

    This is a dog eat dog world. Look at the NO 1's and look at the best product and they are not the same. To get to the top lawsuits, strong arming and many more things are used. That's just life.

    So, Once again they get the little guy. What about that small nonprofit running their own mail server. Or that small business running their own mail server. They have to pay the same as the big business.

    Large companies can afford to drop a payment on this but the small business/non-profit sure can't.

    I don't get the BBC on my regular old cable. This would give me a chance to watch some of their shows. If people like their shows in an area then maybe they could expand into that market and already have an audience.
