The protection that we need is the protection from getting sued if we have an innovative idea and dare to publish the resulting software. Software patents make great weapons against small developers who cannot afford a patent lawsuit.
If you put it out there and don't get a patent then you can use it and it then becomes prior art to any patents. If you can't afford a patent lawyer then just put it out there. If someone else patents it then yours is prior art to theirs.
Besides, what kind of dorky attitude is it that nobody should be allowed to build on an idea for twenty years?!? Imagine that somebody has had a trivial idea and you get the same idea from elsewhere, and build something much larger on it. Well, you cannot use your ideas for the next twenty years if the first person has patented it.
This concept can be held to any kind of patent. From engines to circuit boards to anything. So, your saying there should be no patents. No IP protections.
Maybe your right about software patents not being a bad thing. If the patent office really does look for prior art and not present patents with prior art. This could be very hard though. They also need to not give a patent to a vague concept.
How many people use an antenna to pick up tv? I don't think I know of a one. My grandparents even have cable and they hardly watch TV. This won't mess with your cable or satellite.
The Military has also been doing it for some time. To communicate with subcontractors, to communicate with it's other sites. They are another big organization that has been doing it for many years.
I noticed that when I choose the full screen and iTunes open my screen went blank and stayed blank. I couldn't get out of it. Had to force a reboot. Seemed to be some kind of bug for my setup.
ah, but when the church uses the term evidence but it's not direct evidence many say that because it's not direct evidence that you can't believe what is derived. But, when the science claims that then have evidence but no direct evidence I am supposed to believe it. And now they have one piece of direct evidence and I am supposed completely believe it.
I know a bit about science and I still find this sketchy and I really wonder that if this were a court case and this level of info was provided if a conviction would happen.
did they have to absolutely rip off Windows Media Center's look?
THey could have ripped off a better look, like say the OS X look. No one can argue that it does look better and cleaner.
Schools don't know how to use technology very well

When I was in school and still today (as I have family still i school) they may have technology but don't know how to utilize it. They make bad purchases and dont' use the full potential.
Bad use example: School buys a lab of computers. Computers come with antivirus software for free as part of the bundle but school still buys second antivirus license at $100 per computer. Was a waste of money.
Not using full potential example: The business computers class teaches the bar bones of office but not how to use it for some very common business tasks.
Then there is as has been said here several times of there is more than computers to do things. At my kid sisters high school they do almost all their research online and are taught to rely totally on that. Bad idea. If I am going to do a biography report on someone I would go get the biographies. There is more out there that they aren't learning now.
The mileage really depends on how or where you drive. I have a grand prix that gets great gas mileage when i drive it nicely but it just drops off when i drive fast, floor it, etc. The same would hold true with a hybid
There is also, where they are drived. If you driving in a hilly area or a lot of stop and goes you burn more gas. This would hold true for a hybid also. The only way a hybrid could be better is if in city driving the gas motor wasn't running when it was stopped at a light or in traffic. Then there is a potential to save a lot of gas.
This isn't black and white. And it depends on how you drive it. Hell, I can get an F150 (19mpg) to suck at twice that rate (9.5mpg if you must know)
is there more than bk involved???

There are other things to think about for terms of productivity. Like, how much time per day is he putting into it? How much faster is his setup to allow him to apply patches? Are the patches more/less/equaly in size to the ones from years ago when Linux was getting off the ground.
Wait, hold up. We at/. are complaining about overkill on a cool new tech toy.
And when has it been said you need all that you buy it for. We buy SUVs and only like 1% of people can use them for what they are for. Overkill has bragging rights.
The real question is bang for your buck. One of the big things with the powerbooks is what you get for what you pay. You almost always come away with a better deal with a powerbook. The best I have seen is another laptop come even.
THe other big plus in the powerbook is a BSD based OS. Not windows so there isn't as much crap (virus, worms, etc) to deal with.
Does a battery life of 8 hours vs 20 hours make much of a differenece. Not, when it's twice the size. The nice thing about the iPod is that it is so small and light. I charge my iPod every few days. I can deal with that for something so small and light.
This doesn't look like an iPod replacement but something I might mount in my car. There are to many buttons and it doesn't look very easy to use when say I am running with it, etc.
There needs to be a cost benefit analysis of this. One that includes product price, maintenance costs, and training costs. Only if this shows to be benefitial will they switch. Otherwise it really is a waste (to the business side of the house).
My bad. I didn't RTFA. So, that's a nice way of saying he is in the attic.
Parents house or parents basement?
What can you do with that much email space. Loose every important message you ever get.
All those people who save forwars will use Gmail.

Doesn't that make believing it a little sketchy. On such little evidence.

Anyone know how the linux version running with linux compatability (under the bsd) with X11 will work?
I can only imagine a dual processor G5 running this game. It's like a wet dream come true.
Can playfair be protected under the GNU GPL and be illegal in the US (under the DMCA) at the same time?
Don't forget that any DRM can be reverse engineered. This is just a viscious cycle.
Now you can record 7 different porns at once!

What is the timeline to get true windows program compatability in the open source operating systems?
