    Obviously you havent read anything about C++.

    The mantra is "Don't pay for what you don't use" If you dont use virtual functions, you shouldnt pay for a pointer to a vtable. Simple.

    Debug asserts should be fatal. PRoduction assertion failures should be logged.

    If you have ever used GTK, they have the worst assertions ever. Everything fails. What you really want to do is ensure that your assertions generally imply implicit assumptions. If func(int a) can accept and work with a 0, assert(a>0) is not an implicit assumption.

    Your experiment is biased. A lot of the women I have worked with in IT are very intimated because many of their ideas are shot down before they are even analyzed. An exception was one case where my manager almost seemed to prefer the woman because he treated us all equally.

    Thats odd, xfce, kde and gnome all have applets/applications that do this for you without restarting X.

    Ok so maybe you had to do some extrapolation to understand the story. Pretend he was coming at her with the hunting rifle, she somehow managed to get it. Does it work for you now?

    The point was that such things can be used for self-defense.

    I know, its hard to try to understand what other people are thinking! Just don't be a requirements engineer :P (please don't take this too seriously)
