    It has been mentioned before but the Google Zeitgeist has Linux at 1% holding steady. The MAC number at 3% is about correct if you look at Apples sales numbers, so why would Linux be that much off?

    Everything being equal Google probably still has a slight Geeky slant compared to Say Ask Reeves so this would tend to over represent Linux not hurt the reported market share. Can anyone think of what the problem with Google might be if the share of linux is 5% and the Zeitgeist number is only 1%?

    Trademarking a generic name like Windows is stealing from the Commons.

    It does not get any better stealing from foreigners in this case the French.

    Current SCO is the third link in the chain. Whenever something is sold the successor in interest get's "less or equal" what the seller held.

    Since the seller sold the copyright with the explicit understanding that ELF was in the public domain, NewSCO can not claim anything.

    If someone "exceeded" their authority it's a matter for the parties involved at the time.

    Red herring. MS could've sold each console for $50

    It's called Dumping. If they did that Nintendo or Sony could file a complain in each area of the world and have it stopped. MS would be fined and a duty to make up the difference would be imposed.

    MS is probably skating close to the edge as it is with their current pricing.

    No innovation? You mean like doubling clock speeds every 18 months?

    As others have pointed out doubling clock speed is just Moores law in action not Innovations. Second if you read the comment it was about Dell not Intel, so even if I grant you the Innovation claim it would go to Intel not Dell. Validation my point not weaking the argument.

    can barely drive R&D for a company like Dell

    Dell has a minuscule R&D budget. Dell is pretty much an Intel Distributor and leaves Innovations to Intel

    This is a good strategy for them but somewhat of a problem for the Industry as the competitors needs to follow this route to maintain market share.

    The result is almost no innovation in the whole PC sector.

    Let me see. You are travelling and want to send email from a mailserver while logged in via Wifi.

    Now does the mailserver "Provided by your ISP work? No, they block any IP not their own. Now if port 25 wasn't blocked you could use your own and avoid having to change the Client setup.

    I have exactly this problem and have to pay $10 / year to have access to a smtp server that will allow me to log-in from any IP.

    It's fun to do, you learn a fair amount and it's akin to sleuting.

    Follow discussion in forums about what Batch number OC well. Get some understanding of the Semiconductor industry by comparing Temp vs Geometry, etc.

    If you build your own rig the best way to learn and have a good feel for it is by trying to OC. OC the Graphics card, OC the CPU. Fiddle with FSB vs Multiplier and benchmark the various settings.

    It's a hobby.

    Best system is sending an email to yoursleves and mark it. Mozilla or Thunderbird are excellent for this. Install POPFileand create a special Bucket and an Anchor and you are set.

    By the way only make ToDos for something important and fairly complex where the email description of what is required is a real help

    Things like Mow the Lawn is a waste of bandwidth and computer cycles. ToDos and planning is not the same thing.

    Lastly keep as much as you can in your head, it a good mental training and your subconscious sometimes gives you a helping hand. .

    Strange the status of Negroponte's Law from his book Being Digital was not brought up

    His law I guess from the early 90's said that everything that was airborne would become fixed conduits and the reverse.

    Example: Television is mostly fixed and stationary so cable will take over. Telephones is for people that is moving so they will switch to Wireless.

    Years? They will run out of cash in 4 - 7 quarters.

    7 quarters at current burn rate, 4 with accelerating expenses if the trails get underway.
