This only hurts the @home bond-holders. The guys that convinced the bankrupcy judge that it was better to leave 4M+ accounts without internet connection then weaken thier bargaining position. Could happen to nicer people.
I never understood the rationale for the Poker game they played.
The point was more aimed at the people modding. Its unlikely NYT could sue as its an Individual that is posting, not/. per se. Maybe you meant suing the poster in which case you might be right.
Any discipline that contains irreducible laws (economics? cognitive science? evolution?) will be in some sense "fundamental".
Interesting observation, however you probably should leave out Economics and the Cognitive sciences. They are based on Human behaviour and as such is subject to change, albeit slowly. The "Emergent" laws might be the only that is Fundamental. It kind of interesting that Murray Gell Man mentioned in the article as the key proponent of GUT is one of the founders of the Santa Fe institute. SFI is the pre-eminent "Emergent" properties research facility. It's where Holland works.
Its kind of unfair to NYT to post the whole article and then people mod this up for all to see. NYT deserves the Clicks so they will continue to post interesting articles. I guess having the article mentioned on/. is a huge bonus but the principle remains. What if it had been in reverse someone posted the "best of/." with no connection to CMDTaco et al.
These guys paid $785M for BlueMountain.com. I kid you not, and the bond holders financed this idiocy. Had they spend money on making a decent Internet "Dial-tone" they would have been in excellent shape. Instead they redesigned their website over and over making it worse and worse. They never understood that most users couldn't care about all their "value added stickyness" stuff. Look at google they are the most Sticky website I know precisely because they know what business they are in. No need to switch to DSL the ILECs are as corrupt as AT&T. Recently SBC lied on their filing to get LD service in Arkansas. They were fined $3.3M, they will make 100 times that on the permission they got. So why tell the truth.
This is not quite correct. If you look at the various analysts assessment of the market, they all state that at $299 Sony make money on the console. There is a rumour that they will lower the price in US after Xmas, They have just dropped the proce in UK to 199Pound I believe.
AMD will announce 15 NanoMeter tomorrow at IED

· Score: 1
AMD will create the fastest switching speeds in the industry, the company claimed today.
The CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) transistor has a gate length of.015 microns and AMD said the design will be a prototype for future generations of CPU it contemplates.
And the invention will make for a 20-fold increase in the number of transistors per chip and a 10-fold performance bump in CPU speeds by 2010, claimed AMD.
The 15 nm prototype device will be a key factor in the development of 30 nanometer (.03 micron) process technology which AMD said will be out by 2009 and use 12-inch (300 mm)silicon wafers.
Craig Sander, VP of AMD's tech development group, said the 15-nm transistor is.8 volt device which will work at 3.33 trillion switches per second.
AMD said it will release further details of its invention at the International Electron Devices Meeting tomorrow.
Here is a tip that muight help in resolving any "after ther migration" issues with ATT. Update your Credit card information to something that does not work. I just changed the expiration date to a bogus month and year. That way they can't just take your money and leave it for you to resolve the issues. I paid for two IP's and a modem. I will obviously not need the second IP when I get DHCP assigned addresses and I will havre them come get the modem. Its $12/ mth (Highway robbery) If push comes to shove you can shift to DSL and refuse to pay ATT.
Maybe you do have a point. The problem is that the people that in your eyes Bitch do have a point as well. The best remedy is obviously to take our business elsewhere after politely letting the company know, but in a quasi monopoly situation like Cable access this is not always doable.
Anyway, best regards and Peace
we don't make enough to care about you
With this attitude you will never make nor amount to anything, Period.
Think about this next time you go to McDonalds or any restaurant. If the service is bad just Enjoy it, and think "Well, that only because they do not make enough" but neither do I so lets all just live with this
These guys collectively paid $785M for Bluemountain.
The silly Electronic Hallmark site. It had no income to speak of and no business plan to ever make anything. These guys bought it and financed some of it via bonds.
If there is enough dispersed input then its very likely that the whole system is up. Its not like this is done on an individual subscriber basis. Ever heard of statistical sampling!!
There is plenty of public DNS servers. Just type WHOIS domainname on any *nix box and your get the DNS for that domain. Use that. Pick MS or some other outfit even ATT.com might be good. If you need your own DNS server get one for free here
Plenty of Xbox's on the floor. Their Demo is dead though, the Xbox overheated, according to sales rep, after two days. He claimed they sell as many PS2's as Xboxes and that the GameCube is selling "well". This despite the fact CompUSA is not really the best outlet for Nintendo.
Get it Here,, plus if your are concerned about Windows only get a copy of VmWare trial license its good for 30days. Last you can get a Window 30days trial at CompUSA etc so you should be all set until Xmas.
The California case doesn't deal with jurisdiction
This one doesn't but the recent CA ruling concerning the Yahoo Vs France case Should have you covered if your are a US citizen. People in the UK may have problems though as theur Defamation laws are very antiquated.
One way around clicks thru etc that will allow you to make a few $'s of MS et al is to replace the harddrive when you get it and sell it on Ebay with all the stuff.

(once I realized I was still using the old DNS servers and reset them)
