I was just told by a E*trade rep. 10:48 central time that the "Indication of Interest" will be honored even though you missed the reconfirmation here this morning as long as its $14 or above.
One thing you can do if possible is put your Swap on a different harddrive and if you have 2 swap partitions give the one on the separate drive higher priority.
This is the beauty of the Palm. Its a tool and a toy at the same time. This grown-up attitude that it has to be a TOOL to be taken seriously is an anacronism. Compare this to all the silly enhancements you have to Office suites and the cost of upgrades and you have an excellent relative value proposition in the Palm. Its fun. Nuff said.
One thing we can all do is try and refuse MS Doc format. I was recently in the enviable position vis a vis a bunch of lawyers that they wanted something from me. I refused all documents in MS format and as expected it was suddenly no problem for them to switch to RFT.
No I do not watch TV. However look at the bright side with Linux you only have to reboot every month or better, not every day as with Windoze. Another good reason to use Linux.
Remember the visionary from Digital computer Mr Ken Olsen? His comment when the computer industry changed was that "nobody wanted a computer in their home" and DEC as a consequence lost its relevance. Anybody that ignores the Linux / open source movements is just repeating Mr Olsens folly. The world has changed PERIOD, live with it. The comparison to Communism is irrelevant as this was an economy of scarcity, we now have a model based on Plenty. This is a fundamental difference and makes any predictions based on a different set of assumptions meaningless.
Last week I got so tired of this I send a note to Senior ZD editor Michael Fitzgerald. We had a little exchange and in the end he told me that ZD had decided to make Hacker = Cracker. The reason was that Cracker meant someone from the deep south and not a Nice term.
Here is the exchange
Dear Bjorn,
My euphemism for crackers is hackers. If I made up another word that wasn't hacker and wasn't cracker, I can only imagine the e-mail you'd send. We've also gone through this on our site in the past. See http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/content/zdtv/0519/3173 07.html. We've decided to use hacker exclusively.
Sincerely,
Michael Fitzgerald Senior News Producer ZDNN

This makes no sense. Who are you trying to avoid offending? This is the equivalent of using the term "Non custodial parent" in a story about the economical plight of divorced children not finding the term "deadbeat" appropriate. If you don't want to use profanities make up another euphemism. Coining new words normally gets good "press" so you should be motivated. The only problem is that it takes a fair amount of intelligence and insight. I took the liberty of copying William Safire hoping he would include this issue in one of his undoubtedly excellent future columns.

There is an interesting survey over at sqlserver mag. 79% of their own folks do not think MS sql server will be as accepted as Oracle for mission critical apps. http://www.sqlmag.com
Some of this stuff might be for domestic US DOJ case consumption. Balmer might think it adds credibility when its said outside US so NO ONE would suspect any ulterior motive. Just a thought.
Every other week we seem to come accros some silly patents granted for which prior art most certainly is available. Does anyone know it patent applications can be scanned on-line. If so maybe this community or whomever want to help could peruse this and alert the Patent Bureau in advance so we could avoid all this nonsense up front. Second this could help dissiminate really nifty technologies if potential patent holder were willing to license on the cheap.
With a lot of Linux / open source companies probably going public over the next year I think that Micros~1 will get better defined Targets. It could obviously work in reverse but I am a little concerned with too much of Linux "succes" riding on a few companies reputation and soon "Financial performance".
The Press release and news out of Compaq does not support your pessimism. They are very likely putting their ducks in row for a major Alpha push. Did you se they just announced a $3.500 Alpha server 466mhz that's supposed to compete with Intel based offerings where price is crucial. Lycos for one is looking at using those as a server farm.
I agreed with the notion that GNU should not co-opt the Linux branding and maybe in the long run its not in GNU's own self interest to be linked too close to Linux. With the GNU inside logo they can build a mindshare of their own that can spill over to OS's like BeOS, BSD etc. "GNU inside" stands for Quality and compatibility , much like Intel Inside is now. Strong GNU brand can only help Open-Source and SW vendors can use this as their "Windows logo" replacement.
I think this is a MAJOR win for Linux and will benefit all (maybe except M$). The neat part is that like SGI they will "Give back" source code adding to the snowball.
Does anyone know what changed in kernel 2.3.1 from the 2.3.0 version. I just compiled the kernel and the machine feels significantly faster. It does not use any Swap on light load.
Hej, This is an interesting story. Why dont you write it up and send it to/. as a seperate story. OR post a bit more on the background. Not only is it interesting that it is taken off due to M$ pressure, but how did you get that many in in the first place?
This is not always true. A lot of silly Class action suits is instigated by the Law firms themselves using a straw person they have on hand.
This is not true. IBM and DOJ settled. This cramped IBM for years and was one (not all) of the reasons they are no longer king of the Heap.
SiliconFruit is not using any technology of any kind from Apple, It would be very unwise of Apple to comtemplate anything along those lines.
I added a link on siliconInvestor.com Maybe we can help the poor smucks out there SiliconInvesto r

Now we know why the Seti project have not yet found anything and why it probably never will ;)

What is your point? If any.

Do you mind sharing the statistics on the remaining 99%? It might be interesting in its own right.
This is just an atempt by Mindcraft to turn the credibility tide. Its old and does not merit any more comments.

Maybe as a result of the latest Mindcraft debate this site has a tune-up section. M$ watch out..
