Average thickness? Is that the new way to lie about an Apple product? The Air's profile shows that averaging the thickest and thinnest dimensions tells you nothing interesting.
Since when is 2GB, non-upgradable, good enough for the Air running OS X (or Windows) while the Dell requires 4GB? Sounds like BS to me. Considering Apple's claim that the Air is intended as second computer (meaning it's performance sucks too bad for anything serious) I don't really see the problem with 1.2 or 1.4 GHz. Personally, I don't want either of them.
Not all fashion knockoffs are cheap. Don't forget to add $500 for the Apple SSD upgrade when comparing to Dell.
"Nothing wrong with that, even if it is a profit center for the city."
There's plenty wrong with that, starting with the fact that a machine cannot be witness against you in Texas. Law enforcement should never be a profit center.
Works just fine since apps distributed for Alpha also had x86 versions and multiple platforms were commonly distributed together. What's more, every processor supported was capable of running DOS apps. Interesting...
I'm sure he understands just fine. It's the machine that's old. The point was perfectly valid.
BTW, it's not Intel chips that are the problem. Intel runs PPC apps through Rosetta just fine. It was Apple's decision to not support those apps on Intel that's the issue.
The engine in the beetle was attached to the transmission by only 4 bolts, but there was a large number of fasteners holding the cooling sheet metal together. 6 fasteners is not very close.
Well done completely changing the subject regarding glossy's sensitivity to ambient light. No one is complaining about the contrast, the blacks and the saturation of glossy. It's the glare...
You know that notebooks almost universally are 6 bit, right?
"FWIW, the 17-inch MBP comes with a matte-screen option. Time will tell if such an option trickles back down to the 15"."
A popular apology being offered here and elsewhere but not true. The display option is described by Apple as an "optional antiglare display". It is not matte but a glossy screen with a coating applied and the bezel replaced with the older style aluminum one.
The failure and scaling issues you mention aren't any different from those that Micron faces inside their product since the approach they take to performance is basically the same. You think doubling the flash parts and the number of channels isn't directly analogous to RAID 0?
"This would explain why BSD is so much more popular than Linux then."
The popularity of Linux over BSD has nothing to do with the GPL. At the time Linux was taking off, BSD's future was in doubt due to litigation. If it weren't for that, Linux wouldn't be what it is today.
You mean what you believe to be the difference between IDE and SCSI. The fact is you've demonstrated that you know little about the subject despite having been a user for many years. Using disk drives doesn't make you a storage interface expert.
Anecdotal evidence disproves claims that macs never fail. The BS isn't symmetric, mac users are far more delusional than PC users. It starts at the top.
"The problem with sex offenders is that no matter what kind of rehab/psych treatments the offender gets, they do not change their sexual preferences."
Having such preferences is not illegal or immoral. It is what it is.
"On the flip side, they have their rights as well. (Flame-bait disclaimer: to have a sexual preference, not break the law and abuse children) From what I understand, most of these predators are born with their preferences and develop them throughout adolescence. You might as well ask me to stop being heterosexual, or a homosexual to just stop being gay. I don't think a registry is going to work."
The government tells you that people with such preferences will always become rapists. It's quite easy to see through that lie, yet people buy into it because it's easier to have an enemy to blame and hate than to understand the real issues and take responsibility.
If you are arguing that a registry is inappropriate, or even unconstitutional, I agree. If you are arguing that jail is to be used indefinitely for people that society fears, then I don't.

It's not more expensive than the Air. The Dell comes standard with an SSD which adds $500 to the Air's base cost. It has less processor though.
Why do you think a notebook that uses proven parts will have driver compatibility problems?
Dell will sell about 3, just like Apple.
What nonsense.

You have a right to walk upon public highways but not drive? Curious...
"Even Windows 7 potentially has some DOS 1.0 code..."
What? You realize that Windows 7 lineage traces to Windows NT which ran on non-x86 processors, right? No DOS code.
I guess if by "potentially" you meant zero potential then that's right.
"If you picked MP3, MP4, OGG, and the like, OS X is much better than Windows at interoperating."
Really? I'm interested in seeing how you measure that.
"And Apple is already taking flack for using more expensive and reliable components. "
No they aren't. They take flack for price. You are assuming they are the same.
"People don't look at reliability when buying."
Really? I'd like to see your data on that as well.
"Umm, you've heard of Time machine, right?"
Time Machine is bug-riddled. It never works for me.

and yet people go on endlessly about the difference between theft and copyright infringement here.
that's a dinosaur

If I posted a comment this stupid I'd do it as an AC as well.
"For all I know he didn't go to System Prefs and calibrate the thing."
Then you don't know jack. If you had RTFA you'd know differently.

"...and GCC one of the largest parts of it."
If that's true then it's not an operating system.
Backups don't have to be off-machine. They just have to be asynchronous. Off-machine provides additional protections.

No, that's not what jail is for. Jail is is for punishment, rehabilitation, and deterrent. It is not a place you put people you are afraid of.
