I know, but it's still difficult to get a screen that big well positioned when you have limited space, even with the versatility of the iMac's armiture.

  3. Big screen! on New 20" iMac and Dual 1.8GHz PowerMac G5 · · Score: 1, Insightful

The unfortunate thing with the larger iMacs is that because the screen sits on top of the box, rather than directly on the desk, with a screen as big as 20" I'd find myself looking upwards (at least with the two work desks in my house and the one at work). Ergonomically this is not a good thing.

Alternatively you pull the screen down as far as it will go, but then you need a lot of space behind it for the arm and the box.

That said, it does look rather nice, but I don't think I'd spend the extra cash over the 17" given the choice. I'd probably hold out for one of the lower-end G5's. At least this way the case can sit under my desk.

Honestly, isn't this desk worth more than quite a large percentage of US houses? (I live in the UK where the house prices are higher so correct me if I'm wrong...).

I seriously think this has to be a joke, they've obviously made the price so insanely prohibative that no-one in their right mind is going to buy one of these things. I'm pretty sure I could walk down to the local furniture shop, where I know this guy who is a seriously ancient master carpenter (he built fitted wardrobes last year, they're the best-built piece of furniture in my home), and get him to make me one of these for a far more reasonable price.

Just give any decent carpenter the dimensions of the screen, fridge, etc and I'm sure he'll come up with something better if you throw $40K at him!

Your intuitions about Linux are wrong. Drivers in Linux don't need to be installed, they come in the Kernel source tree. This is why we won't have neat pop-up boxes to tell us our completely standard mouse driver has just been installed and is now working properly. It just works. There's nothing wrong with this approach... it's just different.

This site seems like this could be a pretty decent way of solving this. Only thing I'd worry about is the site going broke, or accidentally sending out these e-mails before my time is up!
